... His lawyer talked him into a guilty plea saying that he would come across as being dumb in court (he had a very low IQ).
His psychiatrist said he didn't have a mental illness. ........
People with a very low IQ may be considered to have a mental disability but it is not a mental illness.

F@%k work two times! Can't wait to give notice to these campaigners. Probably should find another job first. But I'm on the verge of just saying "f@%k it." And "f@%k you!"

I have 'Traction Control' light coming up on the dashboard of my Cruze. I had to look up what it was on Google, though I'm sure it's somewhere there in the owner's manual. All courtesy of having my granddaughter's 10 week old puppy madly clambering over everything in the car. I'm faced with having to locate the control or booking in a race with the Stig. Or I could just turn the puppy loose again and hope it hits the same switch.

... Loony I'm not so sure more a social outcast dimwit with "point" to prove.
Not the discussion to post the "Why not have both" image but Martin Bryant was pretty loony as well as being a dimwit social outcast. Over the years I've seen a couple of articles referring to him being involved in suspected or actual animal torture, which while always having been seen as off putting is these days seen a big warning that something is going to spill out into the human world. This article refers to the suspicion he used to drown sheep for amusement.

It takes a village to raise a child, society as whole must work together as a whole and therefor partly to blame. Its a common theme around the world if you look at the history of these US cases.

Martin Bryant carried out an act which was the easiest route to have is day in the sun to let society know that he is someone who just wants to be noticed. This all could have avoided if someone could have been his mate or friend.

We as a society as whole, must take a portion of the blame for the heinous crime and to become more accepting of people who are out cast by the norm.

Is/Was Martin a symptom of the society at the time?

If you are violently inclined, I mean if you are capable of sadistically murdering a group of people in cold blood, and then blaming it on the 'nobody loves me' clause, then I don't think society can do all that much other than incarceration. We can not see into the future, I mean there are a lot of lonely people out there...who do we judge as potential murderers?

Yea reading more into it he had some classic psycho traits.. might have been more apt to say what does severe bullying, constant rejection do to an already odd mind but even the shrinks can't agree on this guy

"While incarcerated (pre guilty plea) Bryant was examined by court appointed psychiatrist Ian Sale, who diagnosed Bryant with Aspergers Syndrome.
Psychiatrist Paul Mullen, hired at the request of Bryant's legal counsel, also examined Bryant. He found that Bryant was socially and intellectually impaired, but did not display signs of schizophrenia or a mood disorder.
Mullen disagreed with Sale's analysis of Bryant; Sale believed that Bryant showed a combination of conduct disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder & Asperger Syndrome.
Mullen concluded "Though Mr Bryant was clearly a distressed and disturbed young man he was not mentally ill."

Interesting when you read about his travels once he had the inheritance, he was of some belief he would connect with people better on the mainland and in other countries but of course he was treated with a wide berth everywhere he went.. a combination of everthing but it's a big part of his make-up.

"He hated the destinations he travelled to, as he found that people there avoided him just as they did in Tasmania. However he enjoyed the flights, as he could speak to the people sitting adjacent to him who had no choice but to be polite. Bryant later took great joy in describing some of the more successful conversations he had with fellow passengers."

"In late 1995, he became suicidal after deciding he had "had enough". He stated, "I just felt more people were against me. When I tried to be friendly toward them, they just walked away"

Sad story from start to finish.. over n' out

Is it worth upgrading to Windows 10? My home comp keeps reminding me to do it and I think the offer runs out soon. I'm still using 7.
I did it, with only 2 problems coming up. The first was a transitory one, since fixed so I won't go into details. The second was that my quite old Adobe Creative Suite programs can no longer find their registration key which means a little chat with any of the programs involved each time I use one, and this cannot be fixed - due to Adobe bastardry.

I've got no dog in the gay marriage fight but I think everyone from Cory Bernardi to Penny Wong would find 'Party Leaders Bring Their Wives To Mardi Gras Just To Rub It In' funny.

"... Turnbull became the first sitting Prime Minister to attend the event while Shorten marched with the parade with both noting how great it was to be able to attend the pride march with their legally acknowledged life-partner.

“It’s a thrilling event,” said Shorten. “It’s wonderful to be here and enjoy this celebration of pride amongst this community. But the best part by far is to be able to share this event with someone whom the law recognises as my partner
....".

I mean it's that one joke repeated in about 6 different iterations but I think that actually makes it better.

Was just at the servo and zpaul Stuart walked in and ordered a coffee, I couldn't believe my eyes when he sat down and started to read the advertiser.

I felt like ripping it out of his hands and slapping his wrist.
