I remember being involved in Auskick back when he was on our list. The club promoted itself to people like me who ran a school-based Auskick centre, offering to send out unnamed Port 'stars' to sessions. I accepted, then the club screwed us. It turns out they were only sending out players to events in the zone of the SANFL clubs they were then linked to. Our school was in the WWTFC zone so we were offered the virtually unknown Koulouriotis and a completely unknown rookie who I've forgotten but who I know never played an AFL game. I said "Get stuffed" and had the first of several heated exchanges with the guy who ran that side of things. Geez the club was relentlessly incompetent at promoting itself at the junior level then.

Nothing like unleashing on your tutor about god awful group allocations for assignments (what am i, 12 and in high school?) ****s sake, I'm in the final year of my masters and I've dealt with plagiarising group members, members who have never referenced before, members who don't know the difference between an essay and a report and so on. The only reason they enforce groups is because 90% of students are absolute intellectual cacti and they have to pass them somehow (because muh money, muh fees), so they allocate them to a group with at least one highly performed student.

Basically told them to piss off and I'll do the assignment myself because it's my last subject to complete my masters, then some parting snipe about how Uni group work doesn't reflect real life despite what the Uni says because shit staff are performance managed and project teams are generally specialised. Fuuuuark.

p.s first world problems, you are lucky to have an education etc.

Nothing like unleashing on your tutor about god awful group allocations for assignments .....

I did a business degree years ago, as a mature age student. Had the same problems as you. A good 1/3 of us were mature age, working etc and tried in one topic to get our randomly allocated groups changed so on one assignment we worked with like-minded, motivated, competent people. After a few bad experiences we wanted to bypass the 18 yo's for reasons you cover well.
The lecturer said no, that we were doing a degree teaching management skills and here was a chance to try and make the deadweights in our group work effectively. Damnably good answer, at least it made working with the non-contributors slightly interesting.
