I've had similar experiences with some friends and extended family.

I find the desertion really intriguing to be honest, because rather than projecting conviction in their newfound beliefs I think it exposes doubt and a desperate need for validation.

Either way it's sad when they start to disappear up their own arseh*le like that.

The ones that replace drugs/alcohol etc with religion are the ones that worry me. One addiction for another albeit more healthy physically, does it actually achieve anything mentally?

Probably not, but it does make them a lot more boring than they used to be.

There's actually a sound scientific theory for why this works, (swapping substances for spiritual belief), but yeah, you should then ween off the fairy stories once your habit is under control.

How many people do you think we could get to identify with Butcherism?

I don't agree with certain tenets of Butcherism so I'm forming a splinter religion called Futurology and I will kill thousands until people agree with my version of non-events! :p

You got it too

It was supposed to be personal :(

It doesn't even sound like Kochie saying my name in the into
Lol, it's either the closest computer generated sound they could get, to then run over every name combination. Or Kochie just reading every first name off a list one after the other. It's like we'll be impressed by an audio 'mail merge' in 2016. o_O

Yeah, but just think of poor Chad having to sign and hand out 60,000 guernseys!

#tradietalk time, last time i promise.

Our hot water issue has been fixed now, the hot water prv was knackered, hot water was pissing out the relief pipe and causing cold water to be pumped in to replace it.

We now have plenty of hot water, enough for everyone to have a decent hot shower and enough to do the dishes. :thumbsu:

It's called, 'Life is Shitism'.

Tbh losing friends to religion is no different to friends going sober, becoming gym junkies, getting tinder, yadda yadda. Give me my sports loving beer drinking karaoke singing born again anglican friend over those... Until he starts preaching god. God > crossfit though.

In other news, I seen a nice bum today.

I had a mate who went from alcoholic, occasional user of meth to a child of the lord after he met a girl at church.

Despite it being hard to seem when he was a drunk and high, it was harder to be around him when he went full blown Christian. He could barely say the sentence that didn't mention Jesus or God.

Everything that went right, from breaking his own addictions, to his sister finishing high school, and going to Uni (the first in her family) was "by the grace of God".
It started to really shit me that he wouldn't give people (himself included) the credit they deserved for accomplishing things in life, it was all "by the grace of God" you see.

After not talking to him for a few years we finally caught up last year, and even though he is all about this faith, he has toned it down tremendously (around me at least).

I think it helps that I too am a bit more open minded about his beliefs. I don't share his view, and I don't really give a toss about religion, but I also don't argue with him about it any more and I accept his choices regardless of my opinion.

In the end he is a better person today, and if believing in some man in the clouds does it for him, then so be it.

Yeah I don't really like fanaticism either. I'll take a moderate Christian over a hardcore preachy Atheist too if they know how to party.

I interviewed a young man who was a chronic alcoholic and had found success with sobriety in the 12 step fellowship, which uses religion as a tool to replace addiction. Was a great guy. Talked more about the fellowship and his pride in helping others than god or whatever.

I ain't talking moderate christians I'm talking hardcore mind bending back account draining complete personality changing freaks there's a difference.
