It's not an awful hypothetical, for instance, instead of making that album, they should have stayed the course of previous album Who Made Who and made more timeless movie scores and instrumental pieces, like Jimmy Page and Clapton. Heck, even Toto gave it a crack. That's what is lacking in the current film industry, rock bands making score music. The last one I can think of is the guy from Faith No More doing the score for Crank 2: High Voltage (tremendous film by the way).
