Exactly. Slowness can be compensated for by smarts. Not sure what lack of smarts can be compensated for by however. These days dumb football often cost goals and goals cost momentum and games.

Tenacity and throwing yourself at the contest.

I really hope the club is putting a heap of work into Graham. From what I've seen his kicking is ok, nothing special. I hope we can put huge work into him to turn this into the strongest part of his game.

In the mean time, have him gain a huge amount of weight and turn him into a nugget who has fantastic inside game who is a ball magnet, with the bonus of being a beautiful kick.

Should give him 10 years worth of Sam Mitchell tapes to watch.

You've pretty much described Sam Mitchell before he was drafted by Hawthorn.

Graham will benefit from more time in the 'system'.

Must be getting to the point where Mick has to bite the bullet with Graham and just play him at AFL level.
We're clearly not going to play finals this year, and we might as well get as many games into him as we can.

I disagree. I thought this way earlier but have changed my tune.

He is fairly light but an inside player. He would get mauled at AFL level, which explains why he hasn't had much of an impact when playing. I wouldn't mind if Mick told him to continue dominating the VFL and smashing the weights and not to worry about getting AFL games.

He seems to enjoy being a Blue, can't see him cracking it and seeking a trade.

Fair enough, but i'm with Harker on this one.

As has been said Menzel and Buckley are outside players so they can develop their craft in the AFL pretty safely, Graham is an inside mid so it is a bit harder to crash contests and rip balls from peoples arms when youre 19 against Watsons and Kenendys and Barlows who have monstered opponents for years.

Im fine for him to keep learning how to do it in a lower competition so that when he's ready to go he can.

I feel if he came into the side now he may have to adapt his game to make an impact (becoming more outside) which may affect his game in the future.

If Dogs gave Essendon a second round pick for Crameri when they could've got him for free through the PSD. Imagine what they might give us for Levi?

Menzel, Docherty and Buckley can take the heat of an AFL game.
Cripps, Graham and Holman also seem to be built of the right stuff.

That's not to say they'd be stars from the get -go but that they may not be as flustered as Watson was early on and as Bootsma still is now.

I'm glad you put Holman in the same sentence as Cripps & Graham Harks.
Seen him a few times this year and whilst he's quite skinny and a neat little footballer, he does have that nasty streak in him that will stand him in good stead when he eventually debut's at AFL level.

Holman bumped into a player on the boundary line against Williamstown a few weeks back.

All fair (or is it any more?) but almost sent him into the fence. Very energetic and aggressive footballer.
May well have some areas to work on but you have to love what he brings along..............good pair of hands also.

I really like him. Pretty skinny so he'll need to spend some time in the gym but I think he can expect to debut at some stage this year.
Can almost see him taking the place of Robbo in 12-18 months time.

How's he composure and skill set compared to Robbos?

Better.
I've seen Holman torch the footy from time to time, but he does have the composure to lower his eyes and hit up targets.
And he's only what a handful of VFL games into his career.

Good to remember that Holman was pretty impressive in that nab match against dogs at Visy....after playing over a half in the VFL 2 hours before.

Good height about him too.

They're not after Levi, they're after the boat he's cuffed to.

I keep wanting to see Cripps at senior level but really the games he played he was supremely unfit and it accentuated his relative lack of pace to hardened AFL bodies.

That VFL form is a sight to behold though, when his freak body calms the heck down he'll be a beast.

pleasing to hear!

As it stands right now, reckon Shane Rogers and his team nailed the draft last year. Cripps, Giles & Holman - what a terrific result.

yep balanced very well, hopefully a sign of things to come!

this year will be very interesting as to which way they go.....

They'll always go best available.
What will be of more interest is what we'll do in the FA & trade period.

Seen him display all of these traits in last years GVFL grand final, took contested marks, hit up leading targets, kicked crucial goals whilst never shirking a contest.

Plays taller then his actual height and could be a difficult match up forward.
