It is not a matter of form, as a forward he doesn't have the capability to be more than a mark on lead player, if he plays tall then we can't target him 1 on 1 in a neutral setting he gets beaten too much nor does he create space by movement the best he can do is bring it to ground, if he plays small he doesn't gather the ball enough or apply real pressure. Either way we're a player down.

Good players create opportunities he is almost entirely reliant on the good work of others to get into games. If he needs our team to have good ball movement then he isn't much use. Good forwards make what would otherwise be poor ball movement work.

I don't disagree with any of that but right now there's something wrong with the balance of the forward line and something needs to change. Jez to the wing is just nullifying one of our great advantages so that's not the answer.

I think the forward line output is a symptom, not a cause.

Against Sydney we will see Henry out (hamstring) and something like: Miers, Neale/Cameron, Close, Stengle, Hawkins, Rohan. Hard to argue that’s unbalanced. And then when Henry’s hamstring is fine he’ll be straight back in, as he should be having kicked 21 goals this year so far. Neale is being groomed but won’t be there when the whips are cracking.

This is how I see it.

Cameron/Dempsey rotating half forward/wing with each other.

Hawkins, Rohan and O.Henry the marking targets.

Stengle, Miers and Close the mosquito fleet.

That set up won't look bad if we find our rhythm and start delivering the ball well.

He's still on track for another 40+ goal season despite his slower few weeks, so again that's not potential, that's results.

Obviously improvement would be good as well. If he could kick 50 or 60 goals, that would be even better. But you can make that same argument about anyone. Is Stewart one of the best defenders in the league? Yes; would it be good if Stewart improved further? Also yes.

As a medium forward it's hard to increase your output in terms of goals from where he is now. There aren't many medium forwards who have kicked 50-60 goals in a season in recent times. So, I'd like him to progress by being more involved when he doesn't have the ball with tackles and by adding another string to his bow to be able to get up the field and increase his disposal numbers (while maintaining his goal output). But even if he stagnates and stays exactly where he is now as a 40-45 goal forward for the next 10 years, that would put him in the top 10 goalkickers we've ever had. I don't see how you can look at that and say he's getting games on potential only.

and the MC are right not to put much store in ruck division. We won 07, 09, 11 despite Ottens, not because of him. Furthermore, we should put a height limit on our future recruits. Say, no one over 6 foot two. Trade Conway out. Bring another mid. Put Atkins in the ruck. His second, third, fourth, fifth, efforts will be amazing! It’s not like our mids expect the ball to be tapped to them from a ball up, anyway. Not since we had Ott…. Ooops! The effort after the tap is what it’s all about.

His last 4 were underwhelming while he was good before that. These fluctuations happen for young players with a lot of the moving parts around them changing (Hawkins/Cameron/Rohan/Neale all in and out, then overflowing in the same side). It is significant though what he achieved last year as a 20 year old and for the first 7 games this season. On that track, with rounding out his game over the next couple of years, he will be an excellent asset.

Not rubbishing... just pointing out his flaws and a lack of tricks in his satchel.
Thought he'd come on bigger & better this year. Am I a tad disappointed?? Yeah much so.
When someone is highly touted. He will be critiqued at a higher level. That is a given.
I said a while ago, he's gotta have more tricks than just a jump mark kick a goal player.
He's heading towards becoming a one dimensional player. Fingers crossed he doesn't.
Playing on a 3rd/4th stringer back man and be surrounded by quality Bigs & Smalls.
We'd all think along the same lines i would've thought.
Maybe i expected a soon to be 22yo with 60 games to take that next step.
I guess we all differ with our opinions/observations.
That is a GOOD THING!
Whether it's for or against or indifferent.

Olive Henry is overrated he get too much credit for being a finisher, he doesn't create much.

We should have cut heavily during last years offseason, the danger of treading water is under appreciated. Our List management team is incapable of making harsh decision against our vets in the same way it did from 2013-2016. This will hurt us for the coming decade.

Geelong will get a higher average output in full games played from 26 year old 178cm Shaun Mannagh than Collingwood will get from 26 year old 178cm Lachie Schulz.

Could be a substantial backfire in this for those playing at home

I'm of the belief that Mannagh is a better player than Schultz and only poor selection has stopped this from being a great call

Duncan has not one, but two decent seasons of footy left in him. His 300th game will still have people incorrectly shaking their heads that he should've hung them up in 2022.

This is an underrated call. Every week there seems to be people wanted him dropped yet one of the few in the team that is able to get 20 touches a game.

I was running on an opinion of him being a pure forward pocket goal sneak too. Didn't see Mannagh as having an impact defensively through the middle of the ground and impacting midfield like he had in the weekend.
