So this thread is for any chat relating to school or University...HSC subject choices, Uni preferences, exam bitching, assessment stress, extracurricular activities (including perving on hotties in your classes) etc.

I'll kick things off - today I organised all my crap for GAMSAT. I divided up all of my friend's notes into subjects and now I'm writing a study timetable. I've always been able to wing it with school and Uni. I got well over 90 in the HSC by doing shit all. Got passes and credits and the occasional distinction at Uni by doing shit all. But now I have realised that I have the potential to do whatever I want, and I have decided that Med is it. And I have realised that I need to totally kick butt in the GAMSAT to get into Med...so my study starts now. 32 days to go!

Heh. I'm officially finishing uni as of the end of this week. :D

I do like your attitude, though it'll be interesting to see if your posting rate drops accordingly over the next 32 days :p Good luck!

Ok, i totally need help

so i go to a selective right, but im not as smart as the others, an my maths n science is APPALING.
i have SC this year, but afterwards i wanna take like 4 unit english and 2 unit economis an all the commerce related ones, and then however many units i have leftover Elective history

but i dont know if i should take 2 unit maths cause apparently you need it? but i am seriously so shit i think itd drag my mark down...

opionions thoughts from anyone?

Do you like maths? If you do, maybe it is worth working at, because it can scale very well. But if you really don't like it, then just forget about it. You don't need maths for economics at all. Just be careful though if you have any idea about what you want to do at Uni - if it is commerce, science or economics related, 2 unit maths will be assumed knowledge.

As an aside, I dropped from 3 unit maths to 2 unit maths to no maths, and I did a science degree as well as first year economics with no major dramas :D

Do you want to go to Uni vonn?

Im the complete opposite. Great at maths suck at English.

You dont need Maths unless its been changed in the last 2 years.

Judging by this post, you probably should sort out grammar and spelling for starters.

its to much effort.
I mean you understand it right?

But just to make you happy i'll go to ALL THAT EFFORT.
I won't be bothered with the i's though. Word always fixes them.
Anyways yeah i want to get into Sydney Uni and a UAI of around 93 or something.
But i don't know if maths (although is not compulsary) is a good idea?

Because isn't it if you take 2 unit something, then you do alright, your mark get's dragged down, and then if you do alright in a 4 unit something, your mark is dragged up?

Roffle!! :D

Anyhoo, I would honestly just do subjects you like. If you like them you are more likely to study them, rather than see study as a chore.

Go for english, economics, modern/ancient (or both, if they will let you) and then maybe legal studies or business studies if you're into that.

A little bit of extra English wouldn't hurt you, without using spell check!.:)
Spellcheck wouldnt pull you up on the use of the word 'like', which you young kids use way too much these days for my liking, sure you spell it right, but thats not my point!
My young niece, 15, showed me her resume for a job at maccas, it was all written in this new shortcut text language that most of you have down pat, unbelievable, and she was proud of it, I tried to explain that its inportant to use correct grammar for her resume, and she just told me to 'chill', she knows whats 'crackalackin'!
Im scared for the future of mankind!
Btw, to my surprise, she still got the job, the worlds gone mad!
Good luck on whatever you choose though!

Bez, maccas is always requiring casual workers. it wouldnt matter if she had written IM A PROSTITUTE WITH DRUG ADDICTION on her resume she would have gotten the job.

(not saying she is though :))

she wouldnt even be able to spell that...

Bez I would be so appreciative if you could get a copy of your niece's resume, scan it and post it up here. For the lols.

I havent got a scanner Hooley, and I wouldnt know how to use one anyway, but the funny thing is, shes one of the smartest kids you will ever meet, thats just her style, and whats even wierder, her school marks are way above average (used to be anyway), her attendance, behaviour and attitude let her down, she just wants to be one of the cool kids or something? she doesnt even know though that she doesnt even have to really try, shes really popular, then again, mabee thats why? I dunno, its frustrating, she has so much potential, but I guess, so do we all!

I don't.

Bez, relax a little on the language front.

English never sits still.

For example when the bible was printed in English it was advertised The Byble in Englash .. I kid you not... and Reckon is in fact a term from maritime accounting.

Language wasn't what is and it wont be what is now.

OK, now I've been exposed as a history freak.

But my point was don't worry about he way a 16 year old is talking too much, they come around or add there own bent to the tongue...

Chris I agree with you, language is always changing. Words like "bootylicious" are being added to the dictionary!

However basic grammar and correct spelling aren't too much to ask! Especially in a resume. Christ, can you imagine.

"Hai guise,

ASL: 16, f, Syd. Lookin 4 sum work pls. Ur company is gr8. Im comited and reliable and smrt LOLz!!!!1111!!one!!!11 :D

Thx 4 ur time."

Resume yes. Though a McDonalds resume don't over do it either, if you come across as too smart you wont fit into the team and the Maccas people wont like a fractured environment.

btw I don't get the numbers.... I'm getting old.

I <3 English, doing all possible units of English. Also Modern and History Extension.

Dropped down to 2 Unit Maths from 3U and god... so, so easy. Doing 3U for a while jsut knocks all the 2U stuff into you very well & you cruise.

You're going to have to work your ass off for a UAI of 93+ Von (I'm aiming 95+), and just a tip, it matters how well you do in Year 11 too. It may not count towards the HSC, but the study pattern you set matters a lot. I'm struggling to keep studying because I'm not used to it. At least set a pattern to study in Year 11.

My assessments are coming in waves.. one after the other after the other. I have so many extensions its almost like having 8 subjects, but at least I don't have an external exam for one..

Whatever my score, I've got my plans all set out. Sydney or UNSW, Arts or Science and then post-grad Med if not undergrad.

AND my Chem teacher came to school on the first day to announce he had taken 9 weeks of leave, so now I have a substitute who I don't understand and need to get a private tutor. Gr.

Soz for the rant :D

4 Unit English gets a big thumbs up from me, I'm really enjoying it. Only down side is having to do 3 Unit which I'm not so keen on. You CAN get a good topic in it, I unfortunately got Romanticism.

Trust me, doing something like 2 Unit or even 3 Unit Maths will come off for you in the end if you put the hard yards in purely because of how well it scales.

ssfc you sound like me, 4 Unit English + Modern History + History Extension.

I also do 3 Unit Maths and Economics.

Lol.. S_M I hate Ext 1 English at times too. I'm doing Romanticism as well. Coleridge, Wuthering Heights and Northanger Abbey ..you?

Yeah, Modern & History Extension are ****ing awesome!

I did 3U Maths, but the extensions couldn't fit into my timetable, so I dropped it.

Adv English, EE1, EE2
2U Maths
Modern
History Extension
Chem

Same subjects except for Chem/Eco. And I was thinking of choosing Eco..

EE2 is the best. I'm doing a short story. What's your medium? Not pomo I hope.. might have to sucker punch you.
