I'm doing Northanger, Coleridge's lime tree bower my prison and frost at midnight as well as related texts liberty leading the people by delacroix (painting) and metzengerstein by edgar allan poe (short story) ....

My "interpretation" for Nothanger is that it parodies the excess of imagination seen in Gothicism/Romanticism - ie. also in Coleridge's poetry but she still wants people to value the gothic, it is a caution against over-idealising (nothing like making up words) things.

La Belle Dame Sans Merci and Ode on a Grecian Urn for me from Keats.

I'll still make reference to Coleridge in terms of his form, but I'm not a big fan of his work.

We didn't have a choice ... we didn't do any other poetry!!

It's don't mind him except for the lesson we spent LISTENING to the rhyme of the ancient mariner on a recording - it literally took 3 hours!!!!

I suspect then that there's about 4 or 5 different texts you can do in Romanticism - Coleridgian Poetry, Keats, Northanger Abbey, Wuthering Heights, maybe something else? - and the teachers picked and chose which texts they wanted to focus on.

And here I was thinking my teacher was just being arrogant. :p

I'm so unmotivated it's ridiculous!!

I got 22 for my essay but i just re-read it and i don't think it was that good!! My creative is good IF the stimulus fits it well ... that's why i lost a heap of marks in trials so i need a few back-up in case it's a random stimulus - have you guys seen the cactus one!!!

Cactus?

Mine's about a guy escaping Paris during the French Revolution and returning to his old childhood home in the middle of a forest in England. :p

Yeah i think it's a past paper or trial - it's a picture of a cactus and the question is "Use the provided symbol as a significant aspect of a short story that explores and expresses ways of thinking of Romanticism. In your response, draw on your knowledge and understanding of sensation in Romanticism."

Mine is an adaptation of a Wordsworth poem and is ok if i can get it to link to the stimulus!!

You could always explore the notion that Romanticism rejects the ideas of the Enlightenment, that everything should be rigidly guided under a standard system. Romanticism instead expresses individuality and organicness, and in that a Cactus goes off in all crazy directions and is a rather unique plant.

I dunno I'm just spouting rubbish, but that'd be pretty hard.

I had a look for past papers, I thought this was the first year they were doing Romanticism?

Without sounding too arrogant... I really think Romanticism is the hardest module offered for 3U, at least, at my school, and it'd be pretty unfair if not only were we expected to produce the same quality analysis as the other modules but on top of that were given an extremely hard question.

My tip the essay Q will be relatively broad and the creative stimulus may be a picture of a forest and a small quote or something like that...

Wow didn't do any work today...

I'll do some 3U Maths tomorrow, I promise!

It's taken me a good 5 hours to write one extension essay ... and most of it i took from essays i've already written - and it's not great :(

oh well ... french study tomorrow ... i'm pretty sure i've forgotten everything because i haven't used it in so long!!!

Lmfao, funny because you're doing almost the same texts as me Alison.

Coleridge (Lime-tree, Frost, Rime - maybe Kubla), Wuthering Heights, Liberty Leading the People and Manfred (by Byron).

For Liberty are you showing Individualism (through feminism and such) and Romantic nationalism ? I can't really find anything much except for that.

You're doing Keats and Coleridge? Lucky! I wish we did Keats instead of Northanger (which I enoyed, but provides me with limited stuff except for 'Austen criticises the Gothic genre', whereas Wuthering is an amazing text), but I guess Northanger provides me with the criticism, so I'll refer to it in little places.

Hope they don't say one related text (or more than two), even though it'll let me explore Manfred and give it the attention it deserves.

For Liberty Leading the People i've got some Gothicism, notions of the Self because the guy in the top hat is supposedly Delacroix ... ummmm notions of imagination heightening/interpreting historical event ... and other stuff i would know if i achieved anything today!!!

Dont mind me, HSC people, i need to vent for a sec. Accounting at university is a big fat hairy piece of shit. Nobody ever do it. Do not waste your time on such an unfulfilling, boring waste of time.

Mmm, I read that it's Delacroix in an article online. I put that in just to show the multidimentional use of imagination in the texts, that the author imposes himself on it in a more overbearing way - can't think of anything else to do with it though :(

I think I might just use a short story as a backup if Delacroix doesn't fit.

If its anything like last years' paper - Band 6 here I come (hopefully) :)

Hey check out 10biii) in the 2000 paper. I saw it and just went err... One of the most challenging 2U questions I've ever seen.

Yeah I did last year's paper today. Made 2 silly mistakes leading into Question 10, and then made some errors there, but all good besides that. :thumbsu:

Holy crap was that easy or what...

Integrate 5. Hm. That's a tough one...

Only thing I completely didn't get was the question about the triangle being split into four isosceles triangles.

Yeah, I did it weirdly. I think i got 5 or something. Sif they can mark us wrong?

& no, it stuffed me up because I rushed through the middle questions thinking I spent too long on them, got to 9 & 10, breezed through that and then got confused. I SHOULD get something decent though. Not kill me right now stuff.

Integrate 5 was lol.

How was extension?

It was surprisingly good. I've had a very lucky run so far. Every exam has played to my strengths, so even though everyone else struggled, I did alright I think. I self-marked it with the help of friends on the train and think I'm looking at around 50/86, which my 4U friend says would be scaled to about 88% or something like that. :thumbsu:

Psyched for 3U? :D

I'm always psyched for 3U :D Whoever choose Romanticism as a new elective is an awesome, awesome person.

Creative writing I'm a little more hesistant about, but we're 4U people! Pulling something out of our arses should be a refined art by now.

Yeah, it'll be a great exam. I love the 2 hours given, because I always finish both sections comfortable. Write a 10 page essay, and still belt out 6 pages of creative with a 1hr30/30min split respectively.
