Uni life is the shit.
And yes, it is amazing how badly my work habits have deteriorated since school. But if you do enough you can still get good marks which is awesome. Whereas at school you would have to work hard to attain good marks.

Haven't posted anything Uni-related in this thread for a while! Started back today for summer semester. Pretty cruisey, but need to knock over the assessments ASAP so I can study for GAMSAT. Yes, I am sitting that abomination of an exam yet again. Man is tutoring me in Chemistry (in exchange for me cooking for him, lol). The big day is March 26.

Need advice. I'm reapplying through UAC this year because although I'm doing OK-good in Med Sci, realistically I can't envisage applying to Med with the results I have now. I'm also not enjoying it as much as I thought I would've.
So I'm going the option of either A) Law/Arts. 5 years at UWS. Am I sacrificing an amazing GPA if I go this route? Is the Uni a put off for employers? B) Straight Arts. I love English and History. I believe I'll do pretty well in it. The option of doing Law/Med afterwards makes it a total of 7 years.
Really just comes down to whether the fact that Law at UWS will hinder me in any way. I know someone that turned down a $20K scholarship from UTS because she thought Law at Sydney would open more doors.

If you're interested in massive corporate work as a graduate, a UWS degree probably isn't ideal. If you wanted to do something else other than sitat a desk in Mallesons for 13 hours a day making sure the wording on mergers and acquisitions contracts is all in order (or trying to reduce James Hardie's financial liabilities to asbestos victims), a degree from UWS probably wouldn't as much of a problem. If you were happy to do post-grad stuff, that'd also probably ameliorate some of the anti-UWS/regional uni snobbishness that's around.
Talk to lawyers, though, 'cause they'll be able to give you the best advice - not people just out of school who haven't even finished their degree; they don't know shit.

The fact that you say that you love English/History tells me that the corporate life probably isn't for you hehe. Do you know for sure that you can't see yourself getting into Med? Because doing Arts/Law might close off that option, though it could lead to opportunities that you wouldn't get if you just did a humanities degree, so from that point of view it could make you stand out. I did Commerce/Arts for a similar reason, to add the number-crunching skills to my interest in languages (though I suspect you're not so much into the bean-counting). Suggest having a look at alternative law careers as a starting point to give you some ideas?
But again, I'm not really in a position to give you advice on legal careers, so I'd echo J_Moore's post and say talk to lawyers, as they'll have a better idea.

i put it down as my first preference anyway. i'm still not really sure what i want to do so i'll just give law a try - maybe if i like it and get the marks i could transfer over to unsw or usyd. i did put down arts at usyd as my second preference though, since i have two majors they'll be english and psychology with an honours year.
i even gave economics serious consideration but i've only just finished my first year of uni. i've got several years to go through whichever path i take so why rush things? should just focus on kicking serious arse next semester.

Got accepted into Arts/Law, ahhhh. Called USyd though and they said transferring into Law at Sydney is very likely as long as I keep my marks up*

K, Stat I have a question.
For my Belonging Essay three texts, I'm currently looking for a final text.
I already have Romulus my father (compulsary) and looking for alibrandi.
The angle I've taken it is that belonging can be exclusive and difficult to achieve because of contextual/cultural barriers, so I guess I'm talking more about exclusion then inclusion.
For my third text would I make it something along the lines of cultural stuff as well, or is that too limited? Also would you recommend looking at belonging in a positive aspect so my essay has more depth?

Ok, so got into Comm/Arts at Sydney, woo!
Now, I've had a persual through all the sorts of stuff I have to do, have to go in to enrol next Tuesday, just wondering if anyone would have any idea what I have to take with me? The site says to take ID, address, and it says to take my TFN, is that for HECS?
Also, I'm getting wayyy confused with units of study, credits, etc. would anyone be able to help me out? I THINK I've picked my subjects - a major in Commerce, and a major in Arts with a random subject thrown in for Arts, but I'd rather not rock up on the day and find out I have to pick another couple of subjects on the spot.

Well IIRC from what mates have said about Comm at USyd (I'm doing it at UNSW), there are some subjects that are compulsory just like at UNSW, so just get those done ASAP. Then get started on the subjects for your major.

Yeah, there's two Economics subjects and some other ones, true, I forgot about those haha. My Mum works at Macquarie, so hopefully when she gets home on Monday she can take me through it, just wanted some extra insight.
Well yeh just get the shitty compulsory ones done as quickly as possible. If they're anything like the ones I had to do, it'll be pretty hellish and boring but once they're done you'll definitely start to enjoy it a bit more.

Yeah I'm thinking if I start to struggle with Commerce, the Arts will balance it out and make it bearable.

I had NT for Year 11 Economics and I loved it, then I had the Head of Economics for Year 12, and I hated it, so I guess I'll find out one way or another how I feel about Eco haha.
