BP and Rob Waters (from Channel 10 news)

Last night I believe it was Scott Cooney

Re: The SEN Thread 9

Anyone else sick of how TRH go on about how Kevin Muscat is such a "good bloke?" Every time they talk about him you get callers and people texting in saying how much they dislike the way he played the game, he broke an up and coming players leg in his final game that kept that player out for over a year and who knows if he will fully recover.

Then Mark Allen asks the question if Muscat could go to the Heart. Allen has stated previously he follows the Heart. The majority of Heart supporters actually dislike Muscat that much it is one of the reasons they support the club. This is one of the problems I have with Allen, he actually has no idea about a majority of sports.

You mean, has no idea about soccer.

Every single presenter on SEN has gigantic knowledge gaps on a hell of a lot of sports. As far as I can tell Darren Parkin has the best all-around knowledge (honourable mention to Finey) but still has certain sports he doesn't know about.

It's fine to say you have a problem with a presenter because they don't know your sport. But don't pretend it's more than that.

Absolutely no idea about Soccer! Raised the question would Kevin Muscat ever move from Victory to Heart. Really?

More chance of myself getting drafted in a mid-season draft this year and playing in a premiership than that happening.

Re: The SEN Thread 9

Now to answer Matt Granland's question this morning – do we take notice of the NAB Cup? Of course we do! Even the Herald Sun has caught on. Its headline today blazes: It's Tiger Time. Now I know the NAB Cup is a series of practice games but on Saturday, the yellow and black made Geelong look silly on their home ground. My early prediction that Richmond will bulldoze the much hyped up Carlton by 108 points is now looking conservative in game one. The Blues have been shocking, and couldn't win one game in the NAB Cup series. Something even the Giants were able to do. I'm sure the Blues will downplay their form; I just may need to reconsider my top eight, even top four for the Tigers. But I will refrain from making any outlandish statements, for, we never get ahead of ourselves at Tigerland.
I'm KB, That's My Take.

Quote: "That was a fantastic performance. I don't care what they say down there at Sleepy Hollow, they had enough good players out on that field to actually make that a contest but they were blown away."

Nup, never seen this thing happen in the pre-season. Nothing else to add to KB's Take today other than please don't let us down now Blue Boys.

The thing is soccer is not my sport as you put it. His knowledge base in a lot of sports is low.

Re: The SEN Thread 9

I agree. Out of the main presenters I would say KB has the broadest knowledge followed by Finey.

Spot on.

And one or two of the overnight presenters have a good all-round knowledge of sport.

Re: The SEN Thread 9

Rohan Connolly starts on SEN tonight from 6-7pm.

I know a lot of people on here don't like Patrick Smith, but he showed in his interview with Eddie MCGuire this morning that he is prepared to ask the hard questions, and not let Eddie get away with not answering the question.

Re: The SEN Thread 9

They all missed a key point this morning.

Everything was brought back to them saying would Eddie let someone else in the media harrass a Collingwood player and do an interview with them without Collingwood knowing.

When the equivalent would be something like Didak back in '07 getting with his manager and seeking out a media outlet to put his feelings across without going through the club's media department.

Smith was made to look like the tool he is

Re: The SEN Thread 9

Speaking of stale and tedious...

What about 'media person x was mean towards my team:( *bitch and moan about them incessantly.*'

Is it really necessary?

Edit: Also, I think Lavterton is being sold off to land developers. Just like Hoxton Park, Wallan (plus many others), and Essendon if the numpties get their way.

Got no problem putting shit on my club as he does( in particular Melb)
Unfortunately Teo needs a spine as he picks he mark.
I get peed of at his constant badgering of Melb
( not my club)

Re: The SEN Thread 9

Went to bed at 1.30ish, turned on radia and listen to the final moments of the Dream Team talk. After 2am news, A-Rod comes on and declares it the A-Rod show and after 1 minute, I switched it off. The most used words in that one minute, "I", "my", "me".

Topic he brought up was how his mum told him off for drinking too much coke and he has to try giving it up and wanted callers to call in with similar things they had to try giving up.

Think he wants to be the next Hamish and Andy.

Hungry for Conflict and Red Herrings

Eddie McGuire has a conflict of interest. His footy show, EMT is all about breaking big stories and cutting-edge news. Now that’s fair enough with his journalist hat on, but Eddie wears many hats and one being the president of Collingwood. And as club leader he is breaking his own club’s code of conduct regarding media access. Eddie makes no excuses for his Liam Jurrah interview on his Tonight show despite not going through normal Melbourne Football Club channels. Now I wonder if Eddie would be so easy going if Jurrah was a Magpie player and a media outlet said “news is news?”
I’m KB, That’s My Take.

Eddie versus SEN’s mean pair of Goons.

"We can define a conflict of interest as a situation in which a person has a private or personal interest sufficient to appear to influence the objective exercise of his or her official duties as, say, a public official, an employee, or a professional."
-Business Ethics

“Something that draws attention away from the central issue.”
-Red herring

From references to EMT to conflicts of interest and rolling stories, the word throwing began in earnest from the get-go in what turned out to be a very sanguine red herring inferred interview. Quite rosy sports entertainment the confused, non-conclusive, self-interest way it’s meant to be.;)

http://www.sen.com.au/audioplayer/Audio/Collingwood-President-Eddie-McGuire-(Part-2)/4078

Talkback is electrified on both sides of the argument with Eddie mostly getting clobbered … Uh-oh, caller with part-indigenous husband and son asserts that the Eddie EMT interview didn’t respect the indigenous way of talking to people and the way he pushed himself towards the grandmother was a faux pas because “you don’t look them in the eye like that, and you do not speak to them like that.” Eddie “was very inappropriate” and she was upset about “the disrespect he had” as he got the story. Well, I guess that’s secret grandmother’s business that dumb, ignorant whitey doesn’t understand. Political correctness insanity!

Caller hammers Putz as defends Eddie McGuire vociferously. Putz returns fire by re-stating the principle at play that Eddie refuted … next caller starts singer “we love love Eddie” and quite smartly gets the Houdini from KB. … Just a chance here that a number of Pies’ supporters are ringing in. And so the dance of conflicting herrings continued.

From the Smith Pro Sports Business files:
“I think the Tiger era is over and I think the American broadcasters have been slow to realize that the new star is Rory Mcllroy who’s nearly every bit as exciting as Tiger was as he started up his career. So I think as Tiger falls away, and his body seems to be giving up, I think we’ve got a brand new star in Rory Mcllroy and golf will blossom.”

Big problem: Woods is American, Mcllroy is Irish. Americans turn off when Tiger Woods isn’t staring or even playing regardless of how the American networks, or Smith, feel about it. As with women’s sports coverage, many journalists like Putz Smith want the networks to dictate to the public what they need to see and support. Why didn’t the American public embrace the San Antonio Spurs NBA dynasty? Because their stars are from the Caribbean, France and Argentina. Even on US Sportscenter last night they made reference to Woods 11th hole retirement at Doral coinciding with the galleries emptying.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/758313-british-open-2011-why-tv-ratings-will-continue-to-suffer-without-tiger-woods
Why? Because without Tiger, the ratings for golf are plummeting. And with plummeting ratings, plummeting tournament purses are sure to follow.

Gibberish of the Week:
Glen Jakovich for saying the West Coast Eagles facilities had a twenty-five metre Olympic swimming pool. … A caller also nominates Jako for saying there’s a southerly coming in from the south.
