Another one for mark Allen and its only a small thing, but illustrates his lack of knowledge.

A caller rings in to thank the guys for the tickets to the basketball on Saturday night and comment how it was a record crowd.

Allen then responds something along the lines of "yeah it was a great night at hisense arena."

The game was at rod laver arena. Hisense arena holds 10000 people Max. Now I know its a small thing, but shows his lack of knowledge or care for most sports.

Plenty of basketball, tennis, netball and boxing have been held at hisense arena before and as the host of a sports programming you should know the general capacities of our main sporting venues.

Also shows he probably didn't even watch the opals or boomers game.

lets face it, of all the hosts on sen, none of them watch much other than footy. harf disguises it well, especially when he talks to nrl or RU people. how can one watch afl and other sports when they are on at the same time?

That's a cop out, given that they would all have Foxtel, with which they have the ability to record major games/events.

They get paid to talk sport - the least they could do is a bit of research to at least make sure they are on top of all of the major news/events/facts.

I'm no fan of Harford but I get the impression that he at least tries to do so. Allen comes across as if he couldn't care less about anything other than golf and footy.

hey hey hey whoa let's just calm down.

harf does try, which is more than others on the station do no doubt. he has genuine interest in other sports.

considering there are 9 afl games a weekend, assume they watch, or work at a few of them. then they have families and family life. throw in footy coaching for harf, and there aint too much time for much else.

The run home goes for 3 hours. What does Allen do in the hours leading up to the program? If you were passionate about sport and dedicated to your job of being a host on a SPORT radio show, you would make sure you have a good understanding of important sports and results that have happened or are upcoming.

Sorry, didn't mean for my post to come across as aggressive! :)

Again, they get PAID to talk about sport. If it were all voluntary then it would be unfair to expect too much. They should be expected to have the professionalism to stay across all major news/events/scores/facts.

go back through this thread, and its predecessors, and you will find i have been vocal in displeasure relating to presenters of the station. note my comparisons to espn usa.

Marko Allen - special comments

We've had a massive, massive week in Sport Ox

Netball: "The girls were great - I like it"

F1: "the race was great - I liked it"

BBall: "The hoops were great - I liked it. Did LeBron play?"

Football: "I liked/disliked the game"

Boxing: "That Danny Green is one tough hombre - I like it"

Its like one of those dolls that you pull the string and get a comment from it

Marko was covering the Geelong v Hawthorn match for SEN on Saturday night, so it's doubtful he would have watched it, particularly given the bulk of his weekend's sports watching outside of that would have been watching the US PGA, which would be his primary gig given he's a golf analyst as well as host.

Happy to cut him some slack on this one. Think everyone expects all hosts to never eat and sleep and have watched every minute of everything.

If that was his only crime against sports broadcasting that would be OK but he makes persistent and glaring errors that stem for total ignorance all the time in a number of sports. The idea that he know something about football is a myth that needs to be dispelled

I think his job is to host the show, like Huddo, Mahery, etc. I don't see SEN using grabs from Marko talking footy in their sports updates or on their website - why would they? He's the host, not the expert (except when it comes to golf).

when kb talks about other sports other than the afl like american sports basketball, ice hockey and gridiron. it's embarrassing
Pretty much exactly what I was referencing to.

Embarrassing.
