well this is a strange post for me because it is actually about good news at SEN. ( too late for me though and the many owed thousands of dollars by SEN )
Anyway still thought i should pass it on as it was told to me by more than one former associate at SEN and elsewhere.
SEN WILL BE GIVEN THE RIGHT TO COMMENTATE ON AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL , the AFL are going to help them out with financing as well ( again too late for those who lost out big on $$ from SEN prior to this , bad luck Dermie we will both be shaking our heads )
And the other wierd news i have been told from same , the boss of 3aw Shane Heally ( healy healey ?? ) will be one of the main commentators at SEN on the football and will be also given a show on SEN and will replace one of either Mark Doran or Kevin Bartlett and do the afternoon show or the one before it .
I was told by one person that it would be the afternoons but then another said it would be the morning .

Confirmed with my AFL source today that all the above is correct.

Does Southern Cross radio (owners of 3AW) still have an interest in SEN? If this is the case, and with the AFL looking for more money and better coverage, maybe 3AW would on sell games to SEN?

Shane Healey has a fair bit of experience in the commentary box - he did a stint with 3AW when Bill Jacobs left, and I think he also did some stuff for 6PR. He has also filled in during busy periods such as when AW have broadcast the Olympics as well.

I don't know what type of show SEN would give him though. Maybe evenings, with Bruce Eva getting back afternoons. From memory, Healey may have done the 3AW's sports show in the pre-Hookes & Gerard Healy days. That was also the time Craig Willis was also hosting. But if they get rid of either Doran or KB, they are getting rid of a potential commentator with a bit of experience.

As for what games SEN would broadcast, if they get the rights, I've got a feeling they may get the games which the major stations don't want. They may get the late Saturday afternoon, Saturday night and late Sunday afternoon games which the Melbourne stations rarely broadcast, and if they do, it is only the last quarter. On the plus side, they may get the exclusive rights to those games.

I must admit that I don't listen to SEN nearly as much as I used to. They have lost a lot of good talent to other stations, although much of the blame has to go to poor management.

Still listen to The Run Home, and Beva After Dark on Sunday nights is pretty good. The weekend morning shows are now pretty boring, and a lot of other shows seem to be going through the motions a little. Best show is the Gladiators of Sport after midnight on Sunday and Thursday nights. Hopefully, the AFL rights can inject a bit of life into the station.

I read somewhere that he staying on 3AW until 3AW switch over to 693 which mind you is 2 days away. After the switch over Shane Healy will leave.

It would begood to hear him full time on radio, as Shane Healy says let me paint the picture for you.

well just days after i complimented and wrapped my former workplace up i have to cringe at what i listened to tonight and from easily the best show on sen on any day or any hour.
Anthony hudson and the ox to start off on the most important football day in years by talking about what gases a fart is made up of well i am shocked , maybe it would be what i expect from billy but to talk about farts instead of the fremantle and stkilda draw issue then heaven help us.
But what was most annoying was that you couldnt get the afl press conference for us to listen to , hudson saying we would hear from channel 10 then later saying we would hear it from channel 7.
Instead we heard an apology due to technical difficulties.
Yes i am a critic but only if it needs be and as a former sen'er i still feel red faced when things like that happen when they clearly should not.
if the afl need to make sure their equipment is in order maybe your technical equipment should also be looked at , it was not good and sounded as fumbling as the end of the game being decided upon.

Have to agree with this assessment. Schwarz's nonsense at the start of the show was idiotic under any circumstances, let alone on such a big news day.

And their coverage of the press conference after 6:00pm was very ordinary and sloppy. While Evans was announcing the decision live on air on 3AW, SEN had gone to a commerical break! Eventually they did broadcast the press conference, but on a two or three minute delay. Poor effort.

i switched to 3AW once the news finished. And once the conference started i switched b/w the stations. couldnt believe sen didnt have it live.

Actually 'The Run Home' competes mainly against Derryn Hinch on 3AW for two hours, and 'Sports Today' for just one.

How can Mark Doran be considered the weak link when he scores 2.4 in the afternoons, the same rating the breakfast boys get but in the much more popular/prime time slot?

Doran's score is only 11 points behind 3AW and 5.2 behind the ABC, meanwhile the morning glory boys are 15.5 behind 3AW and 11.9 behind the ABC in their time slot.

Doesn't take a genius to work out what the biggest problem at SEN is? That and their obsession with getting ex-sportsmen on air who are to listen to.

In my time at SEN cannot remember any other member of the SEN line up that was the subject of more behind his back comments and just simply despised by many at the station.

It's a joke. Someone needs to remind Bruce Eva that there are 15 other teams in the competition. It's a shame because on the whole his show is great but he really lets himself down with his St Kilda bias. His show after the Freo/siren debacle was appalling. I turn it off when he starts talking St Kilda.

Why have the OX and huddo moved to the mornings they are easily the best two on the station and are so in the run home we are used to them and they have created a big fan club out there.
With the world cup on I know friends that have taken time off work to sleep in, I even rocked out of the house an hour later this morning and heard them from about 8am onwards and they just dont seem to sound the same as when i listen on way home
This is crazy and stupid , you dont get Shane Warne to keep wickets in Tests and you dont play fevola at full back , change for change is stupid.
I thought this was a one off when I heard they were not on yesterday driving home from the mcg but figured it was the holiday.
So we get some no name golfer who I havent heard of ( check the thread on allan and his arrogance on this very site ) and some try hard footballers .
THis is stupid and think that Healy and Dwayne pipe would be rubbing their hands with glee at eating up this weak opposition.
