I'm not doubting that, and I don't care that Tim doesn't like the game. What I hate is that he cuts off a coversation about Soccer just to bring the conversation back to AFL.

He could at least have waited until Andy and Billy had finished talking before re-directing the conversation back to the AFL.

Well their ratings plummeted when all they had to talk about was Victory so Tim was simply not wanting to alienate his core audience.

Heard Ed Wyatt on ABC774 this afternoon talking about his record label and being an american living in australia. Ed has a record label? Has that been mentioned on their show?

What do people think of Harf filling in for Doran?

IMHO he did really well, much better replacement then others they've tried. :thumbsu:

Today's casual friday was top listening.:thumbsu: :thumbsu: They didn't miss anyone. Wonder if Hutchie heard what was said about him?

Good listening to Grant Thomas tonight too - very honest and self effacing.

What's the one dimension? Couldn't be footy

Its the only string to his bow. If whoever made the programming decisions at SEN had any brains at all they'd bite the bullet and change the morning line up. Until they do that the station is always going to rate poorly compared with the bigger stations.:thumbsd:

What do people think of Harf filling in for Doran?

He's been good, but he did prove today that he doesn't listen to the sports updates.

After 1pm they had their 'Sports Central' update and Matt Thompson crossed to Tony Schebbechi at Punt Rd.Tony said Darren Gaspar is retiring and they were waiting for him to speak.Thompson finishes his update and then Harf says "We're waiting for news from Punt Rd about the big name retirement. We don't know who it is yet"

D'oh !!!

Massive day for SEN tomorrow with the first ratings results since the AFL season began being released.

The last survey took into account a couple of weeks of the NAB Cup and weren't too great. However, with five games a week, as well as television advertising and ads in the Footy Record and the Herald Sun, hopefully the figures are a little more encouraging.

Grant Thomas has made a great debut in special comments, and Crunch Time is fast becoming the pick of the pre-match shows.

While it isn't perfect, it has made a promising start and deserves a ratings confidence boost.

I have serious doubts whether SEN football ratings can compete with the other stations...If that's their goal. But it should help their overall ratings bringing some new listeners in (although surprinsingly there havent been any taklback callers saying im new to the station blah blah blah)

Also welcome back to Brett Phillips!

Anyone have links to any ratings info? As i said in the above post, i dont expect SEN to be able to compete with the other stations as their listener base is by far so much lower to start off with.

Long time no hear from me hey !
I havent posted in some time and have been working in a job so far away from the media I am actually enjoying the change.
The ratings were not good they should have been much better , with all of the tv ads , the newspaper and record ads if they can only inch ahead that little then that is very poor .
I was shocked to see the 'run home' even drop in ratings as I was very much in favour of the change of Francis coming back.
Many of the other shows just hanging around the same ratings and like many here on this forum would be good to see them bite the bullet and make some changes but that wont happen , the latest program manager is from a music station background and is unlikely to make any drastic changes no matter what listener or forum opinions like this thread are.
They needed to get a person back there named Rod Law who was in charge when I was at the station , he knew his sport very well .
Harford has been surprisingly good hasnt he or is that because the person he is filling in for Doran is not that good .
Mulholland just a question to you about the ratings being understandingly low again why ?
If a movie cineam has a b grade movie that no one likes no one goe's , but if the same cinema shows the next blockbuster spiderman 3 or whatever people go dont they , they dont care what was on before , so now that SEN has the football what does where they are coming from have to do with such lowly ratings , the football on the weekends only went to a rating of about 2 something didnt they ????? maybe they could have a little bit of catching up but shouldnt they have gone up way way more ?
keep the faith SEN will listen to us all one day and make changes one day and they will get there .

I actually thought the ratings which just came out was only for just around March-April. Apparently it also includes aroudn 3 weeks of Feb when there were only pre-season matches. So maybe that's one excuse SEN may look to.

That said, the figures still ain't good enough.

There has been barely any movement with the shows during the week, and the ratings for the weekend appear to represent figures which maintian the numbers during the week, rather than real improvement.

The next survey will tell us more, but if things don't work out, I think we may have to bite the bullet and say that there just isn't a market for a 24/7 sports station.

I thought Harf was good on the Run Home tonight.

Can we uh, have him on there uh, full time, so we uh, don't have to put up with uh, what's his name, David "I can't uh, put together a uh, complete sentence" Schwarz?

rolf. when they were taking calls on passengers, someone said the doubles partner of mcenroe. ox said something like this "yep, he ah just rode on the ah coat tails of ah mcenroe".

Schebecci is back next week on overnights...And i thought SEN were starting to get serious about introducing better talent. I am sad.

only half of the ratings period had footy in it, so the next one will be the true test

no ive never met anyone from SEN. But he:

1. Doesnt have much knowledge of any sport. AFL he gets by with some vague opinions, and every other sport is extremely limited.

2. Lets listeners who dont use their brain talk for way too long without bringing any logic into the equation.

3. Insults oversees guests during interviews by vague questions, limited research, mispronounciations of names

4. Sounds like he's thinking about how good he sounds when he speaks, instead of actually thinking about what he's saying.

5. Mispronounces just about anything relating to oversees sport.

6. This is a bit of just a personal thing rather than professional, but i relate to Mark and Brett a lot more, and respect their views a lot more.

Mark Franklin, Brett Phillips are the complete opposite of him. I wish they could continue sharing the 7 nights. Schebecci did a good job of the news reports during the day, and is perfectly suited to that role imo.

Have you met him the wrong way in person or something? I've always thought he was obviously the best talent they had.
Disagree with you there...he is good, BUT.. now that iv'e heard Brett Phillips on the overnight program..i much prefer his style...he sounds full of enthusiasum and sounds like he is actually enjoying what he is doing...Schebecci so often sounds bored and just going through the motions of the show....I hope the bosses at SEN can find a spot for Phillips, much too good to lose.. :p

W00t... i agree with you MacMum. I use to listen to Tony and kept listening, but over the past months with Mark/Luke and Brett they've taken the show up many many levels, probably similar to that of the best day time shows. I always just accepted the graveyard shift would be crap, but it doesnt have to be.

Also, I'm not a fan of Stephen J peake, Troy Zantuck, The Tony from Fedish...I think the new guy Rob is the best guest host for overnights.

Maybe, its just my preference for getting to the point with actual points about sport, while others like fluffy entertainment and friendliness.

Listened to Schebecci 1st night back last night....turned it off after 5 mins...it just wasn't the same without the other guys doing the show...something was really lacking.....oh well..guess i'll get more sleep now...First time i've turned SEN off cos i didn't like what i was hearing..

I've sent my thoughts onto SEN management, but they've never listened to feedback.

Schibici was ok last night, maybe he got into a rut doing the show so often, but at least he sounded like he wanted to be there.

However, i just learnt that people such as the Fedish guy, Gladiators of sport, the wrestling people (who are no longer on luckily) etc... are on largely because they aren't paid. And it shows.

I know SEN is a business, and there's not much money to be made after midnight, but listeners know when there's something not right. Just look at the failed experiment of taking the British feed because it was more cost effective.
If they looked after the quality of their shows, i think the economics would look after themselves.

Also, as much as i hate the hands in the back rule, i think KB has the best show on SEN, the run home has dropped off for me lately, but is still good as is Beva and Brett/Mark/Luke on overnights.

MG is decent for what it is, Doran is a weaklink though.

It's interesting that over the Summer when the regulars were on holiday that many of the replacements showed a lot of talent, but pretty much the original line up from 4 years ago maintain their jobs despite not reaching their 3-4 rating that was stated what they wanted when they started.
