Been off air for around half an hour.

Power surge at around 7.15 - silence, then Matt Thompson saying off mic to use the news booth to broadcast from.

There are about 5 minutes of ads, and then Finey and Mark Allen talk about working in darkness, and play interviews from the day.

From just after 7.30 they have been playing old 80s pump up songs!

Most be pretty stressful in the studio!

Hope BP is on for good whatever the reason he is back for Tony , so much better.
But notice again Gladiators were on , but no Thursday terrors , I am sure BP doesnt think they are worth having on as they are never on when he is on for Tony but the rest of the week stays the same

Thats one of the reasons I like Tony, he is happy to let others take over his show. Thursday terrors can be pretty funny.

Anyone listen to the Social Club on the weekend. It is bloody awful:thumbsd:. Any word on when Mark Allan and Pickers will be back with their show or are we stuck with the social club?

Some of the worst padding by Doran and Harf at the NAB awards today.

They read out a team Harf put together of the rising stars... 22 players, 22 players in a team, that's not really picking a team... and they read it out 3 times, like they had nothing else to talk about.

They also read out the 1993 rising star nominees 3 times... yawn

Yeah it wasn't great, was it? You'd think with all the people gathered together in the one spot they could do a few interviews or even talk to people in Geelong about Selwood once they knew he was gonna win it. Can't complain too much though, we've got it pretty good here. Spent 4 days in Adelaide with no SEN and no internet:thumbsd:. Not fun at this time of year.

How good were those old 1980 songs, all classic songs :thumbsu:

NAB Rising Star coverage wasn't that exciting but at least they did it

I prefered the format of a previous Rising Star ceremony where the nominees came on stage in groups of 5 or 6 and were each interviewed for 1-2mins and they showed highlights of each nominee....but that was back when it was on Fox Footy

Re: Mark Doran

I don’t listen to Doran much any more as I find him one of the stiffest people involved with sports media. Here’s a few gems from the Guru of the Good Oil:

a) From around March/April this year: “the Foo Fighters? Who are they…I’ve never heard of them…”
The Foo Fighters are pretty popular rock band and have been around about 10 years.

b) A few weeks later on a pre-game: “Jessica Alba? Who’s she…no I’ve never heard of her.”
His colleagues in the booth were amazed. The star of Dark Angel, Sin City, Fantastic 4, and perennial top three finisher in myriad magazines’ hottest woman in Hollywood, was in Australia (and at the footy) to promote Fantastic Four 2.

c) While doing an advertorial a couple of months ago for weight lifting equipment he paused after saying “a smith machine” to exclaim, “whatever that is.”
I may be alone here but anyone that has ever been training or excising in a gym knows what a smith machine is. This bloke puts forward all sorts of opinions on what athletes do and go through, but may be clueless as to what is involved in heavy gym training, as it sounds like he’s never been in one.

d) A young disappointed talkback caller rang in after the death of wrestler Chris Benoit only to have Doran quickly take the I’m-too-smart-for-wrestling stand, asking the caller if Benoit was an ACT-or or a real wrestler. He then quickly boasted that he “wouldn’t know Hulk Hogan if he walked in the door,” and moved to the next caller.
Wrestling’s fake? Nah.

I’m sure Doran’s under 40-years-old. Hosting a sports show aimed mostly at the male demographic he should be more clued-up than he seems.

Re: Mark Doran

Hey anybody trying to listen to SEN online at the moment?
Not connecting? :(:(:(
Bloody the worse possible night with the Thursday Terrors unless Tony isn't there.

Must be something to do with the blackout.

Anyone hear Billy this morning talk about his Russian penpal, and read out a supposed email from her? Some of the funniest stuff he has done in a long time, quite humurous

Absolutely piss funny. He read an email from her from yesterday too.

The bit where "she" says that "all the Russian men are fat, bald and dishonest and drink too much beer, and she is glad he isnt like that" was a pisser...:D

We agree on something at least.:thumbsu: It was very funny. I'm glad I've given MG another go, been listening to AW but they have some fill ins at the moment so I've been tuning in to SEN in the mornings and have to say I've changed my mind on Billy, used to think he dragged the show down with all the talk about frothies but I now think Andy Maher is the weakest link there. He is so bloody irritating.:thumbsd: He tries too hard not to be a nerd, Andy you are a nerd, deal.

And I agree with you too sarbbo, isn't it great? Andy Maher is the weak link on MG. He irritates me most when the show opens at 6am, he always tries to talk with a "cool" voice. The start of the show is always my favorite part, they just sit back and talk about their day the day before and discuss family stories and stuff. Andy just can't match it with Tim and Bill.

I've mentioned this before, but Andrew Startin's Gary Ayres... how good?

I mean at the end of the day it really is one of the best impersonations he does. I mean you've got ya McAvaneys, ya Commettis, ya Mike Sheahans, ya Tony Greigs...

He is very clever that bloke, and quite rightly has made good money off the impressions...

They have mentioned today that a few of their computers have blown up in the power surge. Not receiving peoples emails etc either.

when footy season is over saturday spotlight HAS to come back

the social club is pathetic and no match for spotlight, pickers and marko did a great job over summer last time and i was pissed when they said they would be off for footy season but they also said they would be back straight after the footy

cant wait

I like the social club. Sure they have a few ordinary segments, but I think its perfect for leading into the footy coverage. Just like the old coodabeens used to be.

i listened this morning when they had the great debate about hair loss and shit. billy made a crack about wally lewis and the fact that he started fainting when his hair started to fall out, most people know the crap wallys been through with his epilepsy, he had brain surgery etc.
i thought this was really poor and below the belt. not quite in the same class but wayne carey copped a belting for talking about a medical disease but billy thinks he's funny. i rang in and got on air and told billy i thought that it was below the belt. all billy could say was "mmmmm" then they cut me off and went to the next caller.
very poor judgement imo and billy continues to disappoint.

Tony on WSO was lost without anything to do with the power probs
After his terrors had gone he was pleading with people to call saying he had nothing to do and that he would read some old vfl book which he did and it was crap to listen to .
If Brett Phillips was on he would have handled it easily despite the probs.
Tony was lost whilst BP can be the host and the expert and would have got through it so much better.I wish the sen officials would see that BP is better than Tony .
