The Tackling??

See how big my breasts are though, I mean it, I'm angry.
And should we lose like that again I'm sure I'll pretend to have done something nasty, but instead probably crying into his cute fluffy face :D

Reckon Gilly will enjoy that. :thumbsu:

We got a lot wrong on the weekend.

The MC got it wrong. (this will be proven by the changes this weekend)

The coach got it wrong (or so it seemed by leaving the corridor open)

The players did not look right (this was not the Carlton I know playing on Saturday night. Something went astray. Fitness? Illness? Attitude?)

The goal kicking was: Well we all saw it

Our tackling was shite: Not the usual Carlton work ethic, here.

The chasing: Almost non existent.

And we lost by four points and really should have won.

Any upside, guys?

We got all that mentioned wrong, yet, only lost by 4 points. Playing against and Essendon side, who had their best win in what was it 5 years? Showed you they got almost everything right.

IF, the young guys learn from their mistakes (Ratten included) then that will be the upside.

Tackling was well down, too much of the tackling was aimed around the biceps which makes it all that much easier to shrug off. When we're on our game all the tackles are at the hips.

Ideally you want to cover both if you can. Too many times you can have them but they just drop the ball (and somehow get away with it) or get a handball off. If you can also control the an arm they can't handball and if they do drop it then they actually do seem to get pinged for dropping it (what the real difference is I can't tell, but it seems to make a difference to the umps).

Carlton finished one spot above Essendon last year, it's frustrating how all of a sudden they think they are a shoe in for the top 4.
Where's the logic?

The comment was "should have beaten them comfortably".

The Age and HUN all tipped us. Seems it was the common theme.

Who said anything about top 4?

We played shyte and you just scrapped over the line. Sounds like a fair result, and I guess we'll have to wait and see on the top 4 thing.

Most on this board would have thought top 8 and with some luck top 6. However, that presumes beating the teams that were below us last year.

THAT'S YOU!!

.....and also beating the teams above us fighting for the same spots.......such as Richmond and Brisbane.

Seems we were tracking about right and Saturday night was an abberration.

We know it. Deep down you should too, but if you want to believe that you are better than you are, and that we aren't, fine. Just don't expect any support here.:thumbsu:

If you tackle around and just above the hips there is still every chance to catch the arms for holding the ball. Plus it is a lot harder for someone to get out of. Tackle someone higher and its easier for them to shrug you off with body movement, and also to 'flex' and slip the tackle up and over. You look at what every tackling coach teaches and they'll always say watch the hips, go for the hips.

Very Nicely Said...

I said "both". Not just the arms.

You attack the hips because if do, you have a shot at taking their balance. Take their balance and they're toast. All the core strength in the world won't count for a thing then.
Taking or trapping the arm stops them from handballing or "legally" dropping the pill in the meantime. It can also help act as a lever when attacking their balance.
Remember, you can also use your own hips and body to help attack their balance. You don't always need 2 arms.
