problem is that the carlton player had his eyes on the pill, i.e. he was going for the ball and since Ziebell as you suggest braced for contact, he most certainly took his eyes off the ball, because he had the dude lined up.
Can't really understand the controversy. He has launched into a shirt front that hit above the shoulders FFS.
He jumped to go for the ball was about to get it then realised Joseph was. Surely he's allowed to brace for contact otherwise he could have ended up missing 4 weeks with a broken rib anyway. He had his eyes on the ball all the way up until the last second where he realised he himself might get cleaned up. Only think he could be guilty of is squibbing it and taking his eyes off the ball because he was going to get hit.

So there's no responsibility for the welfare of player coming back with flight of ball, umm i think thats what the rule is in place for ...recklessly going for a contest with no regard for opponent can and will result in serious injury.....ziebell was negligent or reckless as all get out in that regard
So he should have just stood there and watched Joseph grab the ball. It was a shithouse hospital handpass that put Joseph in trouble. Ziebell nearly caught the bloody ball. He's a split second away from getting it first, what happens then?

He should have got closer and jumped up for the ball. He launched himself from miles away. Yes, it was a hospital handball, and yes Ziebell thought, you little ****ing beauty..at the end of the day, he polaxed the dude and now is doing 4 weeks for it, the end. Yeah the game is being sanitized, but yeah too, those who are complaining about that still front up week in week out and this is how the game is scrutinized now, you either get with the program and know that now, when its a "hospital handball" the AFL are making sure that the word "hospital" isnt apparent with the end result...the end.

I would argue the game hasn't been good for a while now and ridiculous new-age feel-good nannies (Adrian Anderson) are ruining it. I hate violence, but Ziebell wasn't violent. It was an accident. I am arguing that the penalty was excessive. I am agreeing with you that he was reckless.
Then what would you suggest would have been a reasonable suspension?

I answered that already in post No 415, but it is sometimes hard to sift through my usual waffle at times.:)
I would have said a week. I honestly don't think it was bad. Had it been a Richmond player, we would be fuming.

Perhaps excessive tugg but in the context of how modern footy is adjudicated its in sync. Personally i reckon the game isnt in bad shape, i like the speed, theres no place for head high hits and players being concussed...the afl has done a reasoable job in employing sanctions that have all but eliminated the unsavoury behind the play king hits when opponent wasnt looking that dermie and leigh matthews were past masters, tough stuff that

I can't get into any footy shows like I used to. The Footy Show is too much miss than hit but I'd probably still choose it before Before the game as I feel like every joke is made to the lowest common denominator, which can be okay but often annoying.

Marngrook is probably the best of the lot but a little amateur. Live music, talk footy, no frills. Does the job nicely.

He's on tonight.
I cqn't stand Maher or Hughes either, but on this show they don't shit me like they do elsewhere.
They moved it to Thursday night hey ??? thats interesting from a scheduling perspective .

Head to head with the Footy show or on earlier ?

Shows how much i know up here in the northern rivers :p

and what do you choose before you choose before before the game. ? While you are at it,how about fessing up on what you choose after before the game, which is after before the game and before what is after what is after before before the game.

Their crowd doing their usual trick of booing everything they can. Not sure what crowd is worse, Eagles, Crows or these muppets.

They are the biggest bandwagoners after Hawthorn.

I hope Essendon win though, better for us.
