There is a rumour on TC, posted by a very reliable poster, that there was a major breach in trust between the coach/s and the players. Not sure if it had anything to do with Ratten singling out Hampson after the Port game or something else. Judd had a few things to say in an interview about structures not paying the bills so things may not be too rosy at the club at present.
Mmmmmmmm

The players don't want to win. They're just happy to take their money and play games with their mates. This attitude starts at the top. The club has the list, but not the direction.

Meanwhile, we end up paying for them and their state of the art facilities out of naivety and loyalty. There's a sucker born every minute. Once the players are retired or done at Carlton, they will just move on after being stars at a club that never won anything. They won't have any premierships reunions to look forward to. A situation plenty of former Collingwood players and Richmond players have found themselves in.
certainly not the case with Army and Ellard. Remember talking to them before they really started playing regularly- were so hungry to play on the big stage. Did not care about the $$ or fast cars etc. Just wanted to play and win. Were willing to work hard and do whatever it took and has not changed still

Was sitting on the wing near the coaches box yesterday and was sitting near THAT bunch of supporters made up of old know it alls and the mentally challenged. They were the ones who started the infighting between coaches rumour and I actually decided to move far away enough to not hear them after a while of that coupled with the rest of their shit.

Structures don't win games....Garlett kicking open goals does. Judd not being injured and amongst Murphy and Carrazzo does. Having a functioning forward line does. If players like Lucas etc are unhappy they aren't being gifted a game and their biased families (remember the Duigan talk) are spreading shit about Ratts, they can **** off with the likes of Grigg.

With that being said, of our assistant coaches I only rate Gav Brown, Harris and the Freo development coach whose name escapes me right now.

Riley and Barker don't seem to give us any sort of competitive advantage.

Sat in the Gardiner Stand for the first quarter (nostalgia) then swapped to the other side via the huddle. Dale has a better size on him than I initially thought. I gave my best Look Of Death to 3 clowns starting in on Emu before I left. What exactly do they think they are achieving? It was like listening to 3 BRIBs all in a row. Then the pieboy came down the aisle and the IQ in that row instantly doubled.

No the list is not there at all. The sooner people realise it isn't, the quicker we'll be able to make sure the list is there. Look, a lot of our problems start and end with our recruitment. Hughes no longer having the final say is something I was calling for years ago and should have happened years ago. Unfortunately it only happened this year. The delay has cost us dearly.

Also, leaving all talent aside (which is something you have to do when instead of going for the best available you take ex Freo recruiters), recruitment isn't just about talent. It's about finding players who are also committed to working hard, to getting the best out of themselves, to wanting to win. Derek Hine, who despite what certain posters might say is a highly respected recruiter, places a huge emphasis on player interviews. Collingwood actually pay for someone to interview any player Collingwood are looking at and they work full time, so it's not just about seeing what a player can do on the field but getting to know them as a person. Collingwood's recruitment is the model we have to follow if we want to return to the top. Yes I know certain posters have mocked Hine in the past and praised Hughes. Guess what, you were wrong, I was right. If Hine was told he no longer had the final say at Collingwood, I guarantee you he would have a gig having the final say at most other clubs instantly.

We do not have the list, because we have not had the proper recruiting structures in place. We need to target the best available, not ex freo recruiters who couldn't even land the top job there. And we need to pour far more resources in. Recruiting is too important to leave to recruiters we plucked from Freo or in some cases even off footy forums. We need to make our recruiting department the most well funded, resourced, extensive and professional in the business. And if Malthouse does come, I guarantee you that is the first thing he'll do.

there's a thread titled 'Our recruiting'

Good point, why be dismissed in just one thread when you can double your rate of zero?

Was responding to TG's comments. And my post referred to the rumour Malthouse was coming and what he would do if he came in relation to our recruiting. And I think you'll find a fair bit of support for my position in that recruiting forum. You'll also find a fair bit of support for my position among those that are actually involved at the club; Wayne Hughes no longer has the final say. The only thing about my post that was "dismissed" was Wayne Hughes having the final say about recruiting.

It's becoming more and more clear to me that you should have the final say on who we recruit.

Never wanted the final say, or any say. I'm a passionate Carlton fan who wants what is best for the club. This is a complete contrast to certain posters on here who would do anything to have a say in our recruitment. These posters defended Hughes for years, probably in the ludicrous hope he might pluck them off the forum and add them to the team. In my opinion, these supporters put themselves and their interests ahead of the club they were meant to support and that is a disgrace. Anyway, not only does a certain poster on here have no involvement with our recruiting, but Hughes no longer has the final say. Double win. Now all we need is some more improvements and the club I love wil hopefully be back to the top with the best recruiting set up in the business. If we get Malthouse (rumour thread so I can speculate) he will make sure Carlton has a recruiting set up to rival Collingwood's. That's all I ever wanted. Unlike some other posters.

I have said this before and i'll say it again, I love Ratts as a player and a person, but I cannot see him as the bloke to lead us to the next flag. Don't get me wrong, if he does achieve that I'll be stoked. But the thought of having 2 legends of the club in Sticks and Ratts to get us No.17 is just a bit of fantasy talk in my opinion.

I have been thinking about it lately, with all these new coaches talk and all that, there are no doubt there are better coaches than Ratts out there in the industry. If you want to go with experience and a good track record, Mick Malthouse has that. But if you wish to see a young bloke leading the club, there are plenty out there, and one of them is Nathan Bassett, there was all these talk about him coaching at AFL level the last couple of years, does any posters know where he's at?

Also to touch on the recruiting department, I am kinda glad Hughes is not in charged anymore, but what do you guys think of getting SOS back to manage our list after this season? He seems to be doing pretty well for GWS, picking the right kids and footballers that will help the club move forward

Think it's fair to say that most of us believed at the end of last year that we do (in fact) have the list. FFS we were flag favourites (and not just with the true believers here) after round 3.

Injuries have hit us badly and a combination of poor form by some and no quantum leaps by others have affected our season. Watch people jump back on board when we get a streak going and I think it will happen.

I don't care who your recruiters are mistakes will be made and, under the system (and with 2 compromised drafts in a row), lists can only be tweaked. You cannot throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Some, even on this forum, are starting to agree with the Bay clowns that we erred in recruiting Judd....FFS

Read in the paper about GC that a few players were to look for trades. Two names that came up were Caddy, a strong bodied inside mid, and Dixon, a built young player simular to Watson crashes packs and can kick a few goals.

Carlton have to be kidding to not try and get at least one of them. Especially our need for a player like Dixon. Trade will probably include a ruckman, as Fraser will retire at years end. Maybe a Hampson/Warnock plus a pick or so for both?

But C'mon if we have any common sense these two should be looked at.

i would want bassett at the club as a assistant coach as soon as possible, not head coach tho, too much pressure and too inexperienced.
whats the deal with sos i heard there was a falling out with the club but can't remember if it was serious or just one of those things that happen in proffessional environments.

There are 4 guys Carlton should move heaven and earth to get. That is Nathan Bassett, Mick Malthouse, Steve Silvagni and Matthew Scarlett presuming he retires. I am not sure who coaches the WCEs midfield but their clearance work is so good and every one works as a team and every one is willing to sacrafice their game and block and ours is not like that at all. We desperatly need a decent midfield coach and clearance coach, infact this should be just one position.

Scott Burns.

He's a gun coach and I don't think it'll be too long before he's a head coach somewhere.

I thought west coasts clearance work was average, it was their ability to mop up and rebound from opposition clearances which was first rate? thought i heard that said by an expert on the weekend.

haha the day Goddard retires will be a a sad day for the Carlton forum, The "he supported Carlton as a kid" joke will be lost:(

Yes all funny I'm sure. In all seriousness, nobody your side of the border heard anything recently ? It's Round 13 and the Saints haven't locked him in yet. Goddard is 27 and wants a 5 year deal. Saints offerring 3. Blues would probably offer him 5 on the back of Waite's extension (no pun intended :))

There is no doubt whatsoever that we are talking to Malthouse right now.

And if Malthouse says he wants the job, then no matter what happens for the rest of the year, Ratts is gone.

We'd be talking to a lot of people. No guarantee that an older and more experienced coach is the right fit for Carlton. Mick's game plan has already been changed by Collingwood. And his ego couldn't take it. Mick love Mick more than anyone. Do not want.

This...

Scott Burns: Smithers, are they boo-ing me?
Smithers: Uh...no. They're saying boo-URNS, boo-URNS
Scott Burns: (To the crowd) Excuse me, are you saying BOO or BOOURNS?
Crowd: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Hans Moleman: (to himself) I was saying boourns.
