Finally get a kid of immense talent into the club. So much talent that even opposition supporters who hate Carlton with a passion see him and go "will be a star."

And I'm wading through pages of shit of people being willing to give him up.

I would give up my first born child to Satan to keep Menzel at Carlton if that's what it took.

The kid is my fav and hopefully the rumour from an "afl umpire" is false.
If it is true, I would hope we demand a pick much higher than what they have as their first.
In all honesty, I would prefer for him to take his chance and go the preseason draft (and risk getting picked up by anyone before Geelong, maybe he might have to go to West Coast) then settle for pick 15 or so and only a decent player.
Geelong rated him no.1 in his draft and I would think we would demand something of close to no.1 quality in return

I don't want him gone either. I don't think anyone does. But would u give up your first born if you knew he doesn't want to be at Carlton? Let's hope he wants to stay and he stays for the right reasons. If he makes us give up every cent we have to keep him then maybe he's staying for the wrong reasons.

No one wants him to leave, just discussing the rumor that says he might.

Barhead said he gets info from a board member and now says it's from an umpire?
I call bulldust.

Well he has no track record so who knows, the fact that he hasn't signed yet is very concerning though.

Why hasn't he signed then ?

Lot of reasons.

Most of the season was taken up with getting the FAs done - Walker, Gibbs, Simpson, Jamison. Along with the likes of Yarran and Buckley.

Club also has a lot of other deals to work out. I'm sure Judd's given an indication to the club of if he'd like to play on. Robinson, Casboult, Waite among others.

And these days it's not the players who do the negotiations. They tell their managers what they'd like (longer contract, more money), but it's not them who do the negotiating. The manager goes in there and negotiates with the club. By virtue of their profession, they try to get the best deal for their client. If they do, it raises their notoreity and gives them a chance to get bigger stars to sign on with them. Along with that, they get something like 4% commission, so the manager will fight for every last cent.

At the end of the day, it could just be a minor stumbling block. Menzel might want 4 years at 400k, the club might only want to give him 3 years at 375k.

Like in all business dealings, there will be compromise. But when you've got 44 players on your list and dealing almost exclusively with managers who have players on several different clubs' lists, these things can take a while.

Why the **** would menzel want to leave royal parade to live in Geelong?

Small town mentality. Comes from Adelaide, quicker drive and can car pool with Daniel when visiting the folks across the border.

Real estate cheaper - perhaps Carlton should apply for a COLA to offset raids from fading regional super-powers.

Not to mention there is no tom Mitchell deal. there was a conversation between sticks and tom's dad to see what was going on. Tom's dad said tom is happy in Sydney and is just struggling with injury this year. A particular journo got ahead of himself and went to print with the story. There is NOTHING in it.

I thought Troys words when interviewed were pretty convincing he will stay

Said 'definitely', and 'in a couple weeks', sounds pretty keen and definitive in my book
