Half time and we should be down 3 or 4-0, I hate the way we play I am starting to hate SA as well. All this long ball garbage is fuking annoying to watch, Michael Chopra is getting some decent service along the carpet and the guy is killing us and good on him.

Sunderland were the team playing proper football in that first half, not us. I never thought I would see the day that that happened.

Second half we were better. Having said that across the day Sunderland were better than us and quite seriously looked a better team.

Your sooo soft my friend, listen I have been to Newcastle 3 or 4 times on my travels and I can assure you that this type of mentality would have you leaving Shearers bar in a coffin. If you think I am tough on the club you would have a heart attack if you sat down and had a beer with a run of the mill Geordie.

is it just me or does everyone feel the same way over our a-league defending....sure we defended well for parts but the mistakes we do make cost us baddd in the end...faye defended well but he just made one pethetic mistake which made him look shit, and we copped a goal from that corner which was also poorly defended because no-one closed down the short corner...

also if anyone in here says emre is lazy or his inconsistent they can suc* me off because he is a true asset in our team...

i don't wanna sound unhappy with the team because they have performed well but some weeks honestly they have been flukes...we can't keep clean sheets, we are not composed when we have possesion which is frustrating(its always pass to harper or this long ball bull), viduka was quiet but he was the key last night...

also another question for all of you...is it me or does everyone share the view of us being a little more complacement this season?

We're probably vying (sp?) for 7th position this season, and at the moment we're on track. We haven't played any of the big 4, but we usually play well against them anyway.

Considering I'm a Geordie myself, I know their attitude, and while some idiots expect us to win the league like yourself, most of them are as realistic as me and dont expect us to go from 13th to 1st with a completely new squad in a season.

i wouldnt say were the 8th best team in the EPL...BSA has opted i don't know how many weeks in a row to play a CM in a RM position...for me taylor and rozenhal need to be starting everygame as CB's

When you look at how Pompey, Blackburn and Man City are faring there should be no reason why we shouldn't be in the same atmosphere.

As I said in the other thread, it's very early days and all that, but BSA is looking decidedly like a manager who has staked a reputation on punching above his weight with limited resources and tactical acumen and is now a fish out of water struggling to deal with greater funds and players.

Why are we playing longball with players like Milner, Emre, N'Zogbia, Barton, Butt and Geremi in midfield and the likes of Owen, Viduka and Martins up front?

Why did we spend 6 million pounds on Alan Smith, an unprolific striker and an ineffective midfielder? Did we not just get his combative style but in a proper midfielder when Joey B arrived?

Why did we spend 6 million pounds on Jose Enrique, an outstanding young Spanish leftback prospect, only to have him regularly usurped by an out-of-position Charlie Z?

What the f#ck is going with our back four?:

Beye (Carr ) - Taylor (Cacapa) - Rozenhal (Faye) - Enrique (N'Zogbia, emergency)

If they're fit. Pick them. Leave them there. Let them gel. Let them communicate and get used to each other. Don't chop and change them every five seconds for no apparent reason other than you've got a hard-on for Faye from your Bolton days.

Sam's tenure hinges on him waking up and getting this right. He's got to understand that he's no longer dealing with Kevin Nolan+rejects anymore.

We've got to start playing football and put the best team out there to get the job done - at the moment he looks as clueless as Pards did when Masch and Tevez arrived, but unlike the ex-Hammers man he can't turn around and say they're not his players.

Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Portsmouth and Blackburn I all rate higher than us. If my maths is correct, that makes us the 8th best (IMO).

Heres a propositon I put forward:

Would you prefer - We get the results but play unattractive football (ala Bolton)

OR

We play attractive football, and dont get the results that we perhaps should.

Seems to me that Sam is trying to play attractive football to keep the section of supporters happy that want to see us playing attractive football and winning. Personally, I'd prefer to get the results by playing unattractively, but not all share my view.

I'm not sure Fat Sam ball is your best chance of getting results. It's like the old adage, a win and a loss is better than two draws. I think there is enough quality in the team (although your midfield is woeful) to be going out a bit harder against the likes of Sunderland.

Bolton was a bit different, I think we've seen this year that they don't really have the quality to play an open style of football and get results.

The Football Association have confirmed they will be looking into Joey Barton's controversial challenge on Sunderland's Dickson Etuhu in the Wear-Tyne derby.

Newcastle midfielder Barton went into the tackle with his studs dangerously high and clashed with his opponent in the immediate aftermath but there was no foul awarded as the first half drew to a close.

The FA can issue a violent conduct charge retrospectively in instances where the match official, in this case Martin Atkinson, does not notice the incident but later flags it up in his report.

If that is the case Barton, who missed the start of the season with a broken metatarsal, could be subject to a three-game ban.

An FA spokesman said: "We will be looking to clarify with the referee whether he saw the incident or not. If not we will review the incident."

At home, we should be looking to be more attractive, but thats another story, as at home this year we have generally been good to watch (Villa game excluded).

I think you're a bit biased there mate, Man City have more talent than us IMO, although our depth is probably better. Same can be argued with Portsmouth for that matter.

that was point with playing more attractive football at home but it seems the same to when we play away...thats what i want changed...i am to with you that we should be grinding out results AWAY not home...i don't think man city have more talent than us, our squads are pretty even...im not sure in which part of the ground they are stronger...if its defence then don't you have to ask BSA some questions by spending money and still having crap defenders...in midfield were even definetly and were on top in strikers department but its the way they play their football which is giving the illusion that there better...they just have a really good coach who comes from a country which loves playing the ball on DECK, we have the pure pommy style...

Defences are probably even, but they have Micah 'The Body' Richards who is a gun of the highest order.

Their midfield is much better than ours, don't know how you can say otherwise to be honest. Elano, Petrov, Geovanni, Hamann is probably better than Barton, Butt, Milner, N'Zogbia, Emre but again, its close.

Our strikeforce is definitely better than theirs.

So, you'd be correct in saying that its pretty even, but I think Man City just shade it. And their manager plays a style that suits their players too.

To be honest, I'm all for playing attractive football at home, but in certain matches (i.e against the big 4), if we could grind out 3 points at home I'd be ecstatic.

It's not about the result being a secondary concern to the attractive style of play - that's been a misguided accusation levelled at us from London for decades - the point is we don't have a squad full of rejects and duds, we can and should be playing a more attractive style simply because it is far more effective than the shit we're playing now.

Why are we going to places like Derby (loss), Reading (loss), Boro (draw) and Sunderland (draw) - oh four heavyweights there - packing the midfield and playing backs to the wall long ball?

• Emre is a technical playmaking #10 in the classic sense, as frustrating and overrated as he is.
• Geremi's strength is (was) creating with the ball at his feet.
• Milner is a very nice young creative winger who can play on both sides.
• N'Zogbia is prepared to take on his man time and again and can shoot from distance.
• Barton - when fit and with his mind on the job - is an all-action midfielder who can play a bit.
• Duff, assuming he's still alive, butters his bread by getting to the byline with the ball on the carpet.
• Butt's work as a midfield fulcrum is underrated. Let him shield the back four and crab pass to the playmakers as he did with much success for Man United and England.
• Viduka is a slower, older Berbatov, but thrives on having the ball at his feet and creating for others with his tricks, flicks and vision. Is also lethal in the air when balls are crossed in from the byline/edge of the area, not hoofed at him from halfway so he can be mugged by central defenders who get the benefit of the doubt all day.
• Martins and Owen were born to feed off said flick ons and cleverly weighted through-balls, but are forced to crane their necks skyward and run up blind alleys chasing aimless punts from deep.

The side and the individuals contained within it are built to play football, not voluntarily get dragged down to the level of shit sides and get beaten at their game.

Quite simply, by playing attractive football - ie, actually passing it around and trying to create opportunities with the talent the players actually possess - we will win more games than we lose, home or away.
