Interesting quote in that article

In essence, the Russian oligarch decided to rescue a failing business and turn it into one of the most recognisable sporting brands in the world with the weight of his wallet, which should ensure he gets a return on his investment if he ever decides to sell the club on to another wealthy investor.

It's why people that want to restrict how owners of clubs can manage their business don't really get that it can be about more than just spending for the sake of it. There is money to be made by speculating to accumulate.

Or I should say, there was money to be made.

Cavani hedges bets: "I don't know if they made an offer (but) to be coached by people like Pellegrini or Mourinho would always be a pleasure

Someone let Cavani know that Mourinho is actually a campaigner to work for.

Pantilimon has said he wants out.

Schwarzer would be ok as a backup but I think he still wants games.

Schwarzer won't play anywhere as a backup, he wants to play in Brazil next year.

Wouldn't the lure of winning stuff with Man City or Man U, plus the wages both of them can pay, be enough to entice him?

Dortmund refusing to sell Lewandowski to Bayern.

Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “Robert Lewandowski will definitely not be transferred to Bayern in 2013.
“That’s final. We’ve told Robert and his agent.”
Possibly a bluff to get Bayern to up their bid? Or to try and get Lewandowski to accept offers from other clubs?

Think it depends on the individual. Personally I couldn't get much out of sitting on the bench while the first teamers achieve. Money would no doubt be good, but I reckon at his age he wants to play while he can and that's got to be respected.

In an ideal world we'd loan out Pantilimon, have him on a 24 hour recall and only use it if Hart gets injured/suspended. 3rd keeper can sit on the bench just as well as the 2nd keeper and at worst you're only stuck with the 3rd keeper for a part of a game Hart gets injured/sent off in.

Not sure how that works with player lists and the like.

Nah it wouldn't I honestly think playing in one more World Cup means more than any trophy to Mark. He's not the type of person who could just sit on a bench all season and "win" a title despite hardly contributing onfield to the success.

On top of the initial £140m fee he paid for the club and the £80m in debt he paid off in the first year, he's also spent approximately £500m net on players since he bought the club, plus probably another £100m+ on managers over the journey. Some of that would be covered through increases to Chelsea's revenue streams in the last few years but that's a hell of a lot to accumulate if he ever wanted to make a profit on the club (Forbes valued Chelsea at £473m in 2012). To be honest I don't think he's ever going to make money from owning Chelsea, and I don't think he ever intended to either. In my opinion he's in it for personal reasons - because he has more money than he knows how to spend, so he's investing it in something he's passionate about. I'd be very surprised if his strategy at Chelsea had anything to do with developing a strong business model for the club.

With regards to Manchester City, you're partially correct about them looking to see a return on their investment in the club but it won't be in the way that you're thinking, it's much bigger than just Manchester City in isolation. In my opinion their investment in the club isn't about creating a traditionally profitable business and making a profit on the club directly if/when they look to sell (because with the amount they'll need to recoup that will be nearly impossible to achieve in the foreseeable future). I believe it's about selling the brand of Abu Dhabi and its industries to the rest of the world in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 (diversifying the economy and reducing their reliance on the oil industry) by attempting to create one of the most successful and recognizable teams in one of the most successful and recognizable sporting leagues in the world to act as a vessel for that marketing strategy.

The Abu Dhabi United Group are an extension of the royal family who draw on the nations sovereign wealth fund and so have a vested interest in increasing foreign investment both into and out of their country. That is where the financial benefits of Manchester City and PSG will be realised by these owners. They were never going to make back the huge sums they have invested into these clubs directly but if you look at City and PSG as cogs in a much bigger overall strategy then they will see a return through other pathways.

Milan now involved in the Tevez chase.

Oh what fun for us. I'm guessing the first offer will be a free loan with us paying 90% of his salary and no compulsory purchase at the end of it.

Interesting. He's going to play for whoever thinks he's worth the £53Mil.

Apparently Gala trying to offload Sneidjer now, will take 15 mill. Will need to take a sizeable pay cut before the likes of us and Spurs look at him plus he has had injury issues. Will be interesting to see if he gets snapped up.

15m is a bargain.

Apparently United are going to offer 15m for Gomez according to Caughtoffside, which means it's made up.

Losing the national captaincy is said to have hurt him big time so he'll want a big season.

Also I'm sure he took a paycut to go to Gala.

Took a pat cut but got a massive signing on bonus IIRC. Will expect the same when negotiating with EPL clubs.

Or better yet to tell Lewandowski he's a disloyal piece of shit and he'll serve the duration of his contract at Dortmund.
