There has been a lot of press lately questioning weather Geelong should be included in the great sides of recent times. So putting aside the fact that they all come from different eras with different training techniques, playing conditions and recovery procedures not to mention rule changes and tactics, who would win in a top 5 finals knockout series.
Essendon 2000 side
Geelong 2007 side
North Melbourne 1999 side
Carlton 1995 side
Brisbane 01,02,03 side

Who would play in the Grand Final? and Who would win? And by how much by?

By my votes:

Backline:
1. Brisbane
2. Geelong
3. Carlton

Forwardline:
1. Essendon
2. Brisbane
3. North

Midfield:
1. Brisbane
2. Geelong
3. Carlton

Rucks:
1. North
2. Carlton
3. Geelong

List Depth:
1. Geelong
2. Brisbane
3. Essendon

For greatest side, going past Brisbane is hard. But I have no doubt if they were to play each other Geelong would be able to win.

what about the big hairy cat, CAMERON MOONEY...

and a quick check of wikipedia had Brett Allison, Shannon Motlop and a guy named John Longmire (???) on the team...

I pretty much based it on how many game they played that year. Longmire played a few but didn't kick any goals, Mooney played about half, as did Motlop and Allinson.

That's pretty much how I did all five sides, based on how many games they played that year. Brisbane I chose 2002.

Brisbane won 3 in a row and were awesome. Tough as any team to play. I would have them playing for my life over the others.

good point

but Moon absolutely dominated the 99 GF :thumbsu:

just looking at the stats of that game, because i can't remember it that well.
but Grant got Norm with 19 Disp, 4 Goals, 2 Tackles
and Bell got 31 Disp, 4 Goals, 1 Behind, 4 Tackles

Moons was a bit stiff not to win it with his stats. Glad he made up for it.

What about the Eagles in 91, 92 and 94?

A runner up finish and 2 premierships should surely rate against some of these teams.

Also, why are Brisbane the only team to be considered for consecutive years?
Why not Cats 07/08?
Or Roos 96, 98*, 99?

Was that unreasonable was it n00b?
Yes, only a Hawthorn supporter would be so arrogant as to say they should be included, perhaps you should read what the poll asks. There was no Hawthorn circa 1988 in the choices also the words "of recent times". were used. BUT if it makes you feel better you had a very good team. lol

Backline:
1. Brisbane
2. Geelong
3. Carlton

Carlton backline was easily the best of all of them. You had the best fullback in history and 4 other AA players.

Midfield:
1. Brisbane
2. Geelong
3. Carlton

Diesel, Ratts, Bradley, Kouta and Campo are a pretty formidable unit....Better than Geelong at the moment.
