Fair point, but at the end of the day if we only have one KPF, then it doesn't really matter who it is, we are unlikely to win a premiership.
And this is the conundrum with Reid. When fit most would have him either top 5 but given his history it's weighing up whether to field offers now and potentially get a top 5 pick, granted it may bite us, or retain him and run the risk that he never fully recovers. Similar to Daisy I guess where they bit the bullet let him go and got a first round compo pick.

I hope they leave no stone unturned and he fully recovers. As you mentioned minus a second kpp we'll struggle to win a flag.

Problem would be that if we trade him for a top pick than we get a youngster who will need a minimum of 3 years development to play key position, by which time Cloke is probably past his best. Reid contracted so doubt he's going anywhere and I agree with your thoughts on getting him & the rest of our list fit.

For those interested, this is the full list of 1993 untouchables:

Gavin Brown
Tony Francis
Damian Monkhorst
Mick McGuane
Scott Russell
Graham Wright
Saverio Rocca
Shane Watson
Paul Williams
Jason McCartney

Brown and Williams went on to have brilliant careers while McGuane had just won a couple of best and fairests but would be traded out to Carlton at the end of 2006. McCartney lasted just one more year while most others you would say were good to very good. Possibly only Watson would have been one who did not kick on as hoped. He was initially a forward, did well in the 03 best and fairest as a half back and then never reached those heights again till he finished up.

Some notables not on this list at the time...

Gavin Crosisca
Tony Shaw (would only play one more season)
Peter Daicos (didn't play again though did a pre-season with us in 1994 and I'm sure there was interest from others)
Alan Richardson
Craig Kelly
Michael Christian

Its an interesting exercise looking at who was selected then. I suspect this may not have been great for team morale for those who were not on the list.

I think at the moment we only have maybe 5 truly untouchable players:
Pendles
Cloke
Beams
Sidebottom
Elliott

If expanding out to 10, I guess it's
Scharenberg
Freeman
Broomhead
Grundy
Witts

i agree, hav them in 2 divisions. the stars, [ include swan, u dont palm off club champions or u become a club like melbourne with no soul ]
the future [ include kennedy ] and marsh [ massive potential ]

the first on the trade table should be goldsack [ if reported he wants 450k a year, ludicrous ], blair, lumumba, dwyer, young, macaffer, fasolo, martin.

need to manage to get 3 picks in first 25, we can get that. we manage to get moore with our second pick that basically gives us 2 first rounders and a 2nd round pick.

priority number 1 now is to sign up broomhead, essential
