No one's saying he reneged a bet, they're saying he welched on a commitment. He committed to using an Arsenal avatar if Mata was still at United. He welched on that commitment. You don't have to have someone take you up on a commitment for it to be a commitment.

If people are being held to every commitment they say on here then this would be an interesting place. Pretty sure a few people have said they'd rather die than see xyz happen. We pulling the trigger on those too?

Also you're not distinguishing between hyperbole and an actual commitment. Saying something as specific as "I'll change to an Arsenal avatar" which, let's be honest, isn't the end of the world, then that's a bit more genuine than someone saying "I'd eat my shoe if..".
