But I still think you are wrong about the wine though. If it's good it doesn't matter where it comes from. Hmm.

message to self: play the ball and not the man, repeat before posting.
I might possibly be wrong. It's all a matter of taste. I'm South Australian, so I tend to stick to SA wine. Ok, maybe that's blind parochialism? Perhaps the ones I tried when over there weren't the better ones? Admittedly I only made a couple of trips to Yering and Coldstream, so I can't say I know much about teh region. I'm led to believe though that former Port Adelaide footballer, 'Sticks" Dolan has a winery up there somewhere?
For the record I did find a decent couple of wineries over there, at Scotchman's Hill and kilgour estates, near Port Arlington, outside Geelong. The Scotchman's Hill reds were very nice.
Now , isn't it nice to see civilised discussion here? Shall I count in the trolls, or would you like to?

Civilised indeed.

Now strangely enough I know very well of the places you've mentioned. I visit the Portarlington region frequently. (had to correct your spelling there) and Scotchman's Hill is very popular.

I also know friends who have had a winery in the Yarra Valley near Yering for over 40 years. Fabulous place, used to get invited to pick the grapes and crush them and take home some bottles too. I'm no wine conoisseur but they are often winning medals for their stuff.

Overall though, the whole area is just magnificent for takiing a drive through just for the scenery. Not too far from the city and just far enough to spend a while.

Darn, I'm getting the urge to take a drive. :D

Hmm funny about that. You pre empted me about the drive as I was palnning to cruise up to Semaphore later and just run the dog on the beach and have a couple of quiet ones listening to the football on the radio. I didn't realise that Port and Arlington weren't separate words. And I used to coach football teams against theirs.... shocking hey?
