It is all good and well to say we won by 40, that is the name of the game, but we are equal third on the ladder, we should be thinking about playing and winning finals.

What a disgraceful performance, playing against a side that at no stage wanted to win the game.

Our style of play is horrible and we will not win finals playing that way. And for those on this board who said we only brought our 'c' grade game, are kidding themselves. We need at all times to play a style of football that will win us finals. When we are under pressure in big games we will revert to the style we have played all season.

We always look sidewards, no better emphasised than in the final minute when someone had the ball 70 out and looked everywhere but forward which left Makepeace standing there for an eternity before they finally looked.

Our decision making and execution was deplorable. If we play like that against a good side we will be demolished. If we can't execute without pressure, how can we do it in the finals? Why possibly would Wells have the ball 70m from goal and then kick it back 40 metres? It defies logic

Why did we play with two loose men and occasionally Petrie as well. They should have pushed up to the wings or gone forward and manned up the Hawthorn loose men. There is not another side in the top 8 that would flood against Hawthorn. We try hard not to lose games as opposed to winning them!

Sinclair is a prime culprit, stops and walks backwards whenever he marks it and then always kicks it sideways.
Simpson has to man up on someone, he runs around by himself, gets the ball and then turns it over.
Stevens can't play, end of story

Today was equal with geelong as our worst game of the year. We need to start playing a 'finals' brand of footy, just as Sydney have done over the last 5 weeks.

We do not get respect, because we don't deserve it. You don;t get respect playing keepings off against the worst side in the competition. Look at the way St kilda (70pts), Geelong (80pts) and Adelaide(75pts) took care of business this week, that is why we are not considered in their league.

agree...but we won, and jyd said it was a crap game, and we were only a goal off the league leaders who demolished possibly the scariest "on form" team around at the moment.

Meh, with the amount Hawthorn flooded, it was never going to be a flowing performance. Our two tall forward targets were flanked with defenders all day.

It wasn't our best, but this thread is going a bit over the top methinks. Adelaide will attack, and that will be a much better indication of where we're at.

I'm happy, a win is still 4 points isn't it? At the end of the day we need to be happy we walked away with the important points, not so much how many points were up on the scoreboard.

Hawthorn play a crap style of footy and unfortunately they bring their opposition down to their level. No other way to beat them.

Did anyone on the board actually enjoy watching the game?

In the crowd where I was sitting, everyone was laughing at how ridiculous our gameplan was. Our football has not been enjoyable to watch all year, except for the Fremantle and Essendon games.

Does anyone think we can win finals, playing a high possession style, with our skill level?

I think ppl forget one important thing when they watch/evaluate how their team plays and that is there is another team out there too.

I thought we played high possession because our forward 50 was choccas with brown and gold.

For god's sake watch the game - that was the most severe flood I've seen applied to us for many years.

What's your solution? Kick it long to the Duck?

Why didn't we either man them up or move our loose men into the centre where they would be manned up?
Why would we let Hawthorn dictate our play?
Would WC, St Kilda, Adelaide, be worried by that? NO

My discontent is a result of the fact I think we have the potential to be a top 4 side, but out biggest issue is the way we play. We need to play a better brand of football to improve as a football side

1. If we had of created more space for Sav and thommo, there would still be Hawks in our 50 to prevent scoring shots.

2. If we man them up? In our own 50? more trouble.

I thought our loose men were in the centre, hence why it was such a high possession performance?

Hawthorn didn't try to win the game, they tried to contain us. You can't be too critical on that account.

This thread title belongs on the Hawthorn Board doesn't it?

Mate, it could be worse. You could've lost your main forward to a side that's going to play finals and at the same time, be struggling for a forward yourself.
That'd hurt dontcha think?

Anyway, Hawthorn have a habit of "dragging sides down to their level" and it happened today. Just last week you almost beat the best side in the comp so you must be doing something right. Put it down as an abberation and be happy you got the 4 points.

Oh, and for all you sadists out there, the bit that REALLY hurt today was Drew Petrie. After all, I was the bright spark who, once upon a time started this thread:http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119957&highlight=petrie... now who's laughing?

Re: Bibs & Skirts effort

Browsie, you can't stress it enough. I get your drift and can't agree more. I was so INFURIATED midway thru the last (waiting ever so patiently for some serious footy) that I spat the dummy at the end and left in disgust.

GUTLESS EFFORT that deserves a kick in the backside. Captain **Homer** should take his own advice instead of telling other clubs what 'playing with no respect' is all about. Felt both teams were always resigned to the result and it was a matter of completing the formalities without much fuss  . I'm peeved cause I lost $$$ on North >>> 60+ wasn't too much for a finals contender 'or pretender on today's insipid effords' to ask for.

RANT OVER !

How many times in the 2nd half did the Hawks kick to the boundary while going forward because they didn'y have anyone to kick to?

They pushed back something cronic, we had no choice other than to "find" a way in - please watch the game, because every so often the opposition turn up to make our game plan a misery

Its 41 FFS!!

Adelaide only beat them by 10 points and the Hawks had 3 players injured on the bench!

We are carrying on like we are a definate top 4 team, the thing is, we arent.

Im off to bed, goodnight.

BTW, I love your " >>> " :D

That's right SM. But on the 'realistic side' of playing a CONTACT sport is to apply some pressure and attack the game with running in two's & three's which means MOVING the BALL QUICK which NORTH simply couldn't be bothered for much of the game. NINE GOALS came from Hawthorn clangers !!

North, to me, played like millionaires, no care in the world, always knew the points were banked and paid the Hawks no respect as a football team. Too bad the Hawks are (playing like) a rabble & get paid for it.

First of all >> think Adel 97-98 :)

Last week we MUST of played ABOVE OURSELVES then ? :p

Also consider the Crows had a 8 goal lead during the third last week and did a WCE and went to sleep (or in reality >>> paid NO RESPECT and almost got rolled for it). My point is NORTH didn't wake up after quarter time and that annoyed me & plenty of ROO fans. 41 point win was very flattering as the Hawks gave us 9 goals worth with clangers. That means a 5 goal win effort with takes away the 13 point diffference.

I wonder that also Moomba. Sport is a time kill and nothing else. I'm glad my mrs isn't a footy spaz like I.

I can understand peoples frustration. Our delivery and general skill level was very poor. Dean even came out at 3/4 time and gave the team a fierce bake. But, I was worried about this game and am very happy with the 41 point win.

Looking forward to next week against the Crows when we can really test ourselves.

We generally only play this style against flooding teams and it does appear to be a good solution however I hope we don't get to caught up with this sideways, backwards stuff.
Sinclair takes a mark and you might as well go and get a beer because you will be back before he does anything with it. He will hold it for his full 15 seconds then do a 20 meter kick to someone who is usually sideways in the center, who then will pass it again to the other wing. What is the point?
Now in a severe flood like today I can understand the point but did anyone notice Sav making leads only to be ignored? Why wouldn't you pass to Sav if he made a lead. He's a 700 goal player FFS who can kick it from outside 50.
I'll give the boys the benefit of the doubt and say that Hawthorn did drag the standard of the game down with negative play.
Also someone has to tell Wells that he is a good player and he is occasionaly allowed to run in and have a ping at the goals. Why would he kick sideways to a player who is the same distance out as him when he was on the run and under no pressure? Defies logic. Wells is getting me a little frustrated I have to say. Hasn't really taken any steps this year. He doesn't seem to have any confidence in his own ability.

After all that I'm still happy with the win. Watching Glen Archer hit blokes on the chest all day was enough for me to be happy. Loved Archies game today.

Fierce Bake that revolved around 'playing keeping off' and not taking chances by kicking to a contest or a nest of Hawks. I can understand that. What bothers me is other teams will see this and say, hey, we'll get a 4 goal buffer late in third quarter and just FLOOD like mad !! GAME OVER !! North can't win kicking backwards.

I only wanted to see North play smart and find targets on the 50 and have LONG KICK shots but it seems that's something that is 'not within JYD's gameplan' so when we are coming from behind in these challenging games that we need the 'game pressure of slotting thru long goals' constantly instead of waiting for the death of the game to rely on a game decider from say, Petrie ?? I really expected Sav to have a big one but he got overlooked on the lead too often and we just wasted opportunites.

Time will tell if 2 % will determine a great deal in the wash up.
