Loved Mackie's gesture after the siren, pointing to the arm band.

Loved Chris Scott's comments after the game even more. He sounds like someone who has been part of Geelong all his life.

A lucky 2 point win. Easily one of the best games for a long time. Bob Davis will be smiling.

Glad your boys got up and won it for him. Really gutsed it out after that first quater. Good send off for the great man

Did ya? I thought it was a huge poser move from a guy who did SFA.

Possibly our worst for the night.

Would have shown more regard for Bobby if he'd committed to a contest.

That certainly was a beautiful gesture, by Mackey. Gosh our Boy Cats have so much depth and finesse. A wonderful tribute to Bobby, a show of courage and fortitude. We are Geelong! Vale Bobby Davis.

You are ridiculously biased. Mackie played an important role on a difficult night. Even his stats were ok. Nowhere near the worst. Top 1/2 tonight. Bobby would have liked the way he played.

bull.hit, did you watch the game or do you just hate the guy

Hear, hear! Skankfest has a vendetta. I thought Mackie's game was OK tonight. But this has NOTHING to do with his tribute after the game.

Yes, really nice gesture.
Really wish I could be down in Geelong for Tuesday. Just so sad!
Use to live there some years ago and looking moving back sometime soon. Guess I'll have a pot when I get back down there. Cheers, Bobby :thumbsu:

THIS!!!!

I'm so sick of 'soft-****' Mackey, he's a hack and i don't know why he gets a game in front of a younger player who will stick a tackle and get a hard ball:thumbsd:

This is not a review of the game or the performance of any individual in it, but it is all about somebody literally wearing their heart on their sleeve. And during the week Lingy stated that Andrew Mackie is a very ardent student of the game and has fully embraced the history and traditions of the GFC.

He wears that number fully aware of the rich heritage that it invokes, and it really, deeply means something to him.

I was moved by his heart felt gesture immediately after the siren heralded our victory, and his immediate and very personal dedication of the win to the memory of a man who so obviously meant a very great deal to him on a personal as well as historical basis.

Love him or loathe him as you will, but Andrew Mackie is a Geelong Cats club man to his very core, and I for one think a lot more of him for that little but appropriate display of respect and affection for Bob Davis.

THIS. :thumbsu: :thumbsu: I loved it, found it very moving - clearly a spontaneous and genuine gesture, nothing contrived about it. I had the impression during the pre-game minute of silence when the camera focused on him that he was somewhat emotional but trying to hold it in.

Lovely to see Laidler wearing an armband as well - I think he was the only CFC player to do so?

An act of class.

A lot of ex Geelong personnel now with other clubs have gone public this week with tributes to the memory of Woofa. It goes to show that you may take the boy out of Geelong but you'll never take Geelong out of the boy.

I actually watched the footy show on thursday for once, it was weird to see Sam out of his w***er comfort zone when he was telling those stories about Davis. He was trying to keep it humourous but he looked as close to a genuine emotional wreck as I've ever seen him. A rare moment of class.

It wasnt the best we played, but we won. Considering what has happened in the past week im sure it was tough for some of the guys to get up. Still played well enough to win.

so unnecessary, man.

regardless of your opinions on mackie as a footballer, he is the one out there doing it. good game/poor game, commits/doesnt commit, not the issue. if he chooses to display his own tribute to a legend of the club he plays for, he can.

maybe one day you could teach him to be a real man?

Mackie was full of emotion after the match, and no doubt before. His gesture was heartfelt and genuine, showing respect for a man he admired.

Only the.....unfortunate....would view it any other way.

Good job Andrew Mackie :thumbsu:

Did see Matthew Stokes kiss the armband after kicking a goal also, but I think he was wearing two armbands, so maybe the kiss was for the family or friend he lost.

Also the minute silence was very moving, it always strikes me the 48,000 people can be so quiet.
