I think this week, we should go all out to win by as much as we possibly can and try and get our percantage as high as we can.

We can't take the Blues easy, and try and give some guys a run to just win the game. And we certainly can't be complacent about them - Look what happened v Dogs.

At the end of this season, percantage looks like it will mean a lot, so even if we get to the point where we are 40 points up in some matches, we must try and make it 80. We had a big win against the Saints (about 60 points) but I really thought we could've won that game by 100+, which would've been great for the %. but that's in the past, Blues is the future.

What would you guys like to be doen this weekend???

Chad Fletcher's had his first real down week of the year, so he is one guy that MUST have a good game, otherwise he's confidence may go down again, and that's the last thing we want.

Daniel Chick had a poor game on the weekend, although he was probably unfairly put on O'Loughlin, but we didn't have anyone else who was good enough to play on him. Maybe he was still injured????? Perhaps give him this week off.....

Hopefully the big man is back this week, but if he isn't, it's not the end of the world.

Hopefully Phil Matera is back as well.

Aside from those two, we don't have any key injuries coming back in the near future - Morrison and Gaspar are a long way from back.

If Gardiner comes back into the team, then I think Cox could very well be on the outer.

I'd like to see Staker or Lynch bought into the 22 to play at CHB and play MacDougall out the full match at CHF, rotating Jakovich through as a second tall around the CHF area and CHB, giving Lynch or Staker some bench time as not to rush them straight into the AFL scene for 2003.

FF I'd like to see Haynes bought back there to keep our old set up, and he DEFINETALY will if Phil Matera comes back. Otherwise, they may opt for either Johnson and Hansen at FF. I feel Wilson came in, because aside from Fido, he's the only one capable of kicking a big bag (which he didn't do).

In terms of the small men, absolutely nothign different. Just keep running all game.

So at this early stage, if neither Gardy or Matera comes back in:

Ins - Staker/Lynch, Hansen/Johnson
Outs - Wilson, Chick (if still feeling he's injury, otherwise Jones appears to be most vulnerable but I don't think he deserves to be dropped)

If only Gardiner is available:

Ins - Gardiner, Staker/Lynch, Hansen/Johnson
Outs - Wilson, Chick (as above), Cox

If Only Matera is available:

Ins - Matera, Staker/Lynch
Outs - Wilson, Chick (as above)

If both are available:

Ins - Gardiner, Matera, Staker/Lynch
Outs - Wilson, Chick (as above), Cox

I also wouldn't mind seeing Seaby come in, but its hard to see who for. Also with MacDougall still raw, and with the possibility of Staker/Lynch and Hansen/Johnson playing the first game of AFL footballer for 2003 (or in two cases - ever), than I'd rather not have a third in there as well. That would give us four tall guys in the one match, with very limited AFL experience.

BTW, this isn't a reflection on Dean Cox. I thought he did quite a servicable job in a battle which was always going to be uphill, but I unless he starts to work on being able to play around the ground (most probably going to work for him in the forward line) than I don't see him being a bench player.

Wherever he ends up in his career, if he keeps his current style, I really only see him as a first ruckman (which he is more than capable of being) or not in the squad at all. He just doesn't add enough variety of the bench,.

yea i know what you mean, but I'm more thinking once we get ourselves in front, we seem to take our foot of the pedal. The way this year is heading, we can't do that, because percantage will play a bit part of the seasons end, and it's not as if we are light years in front of the rest.

i'd think that jakovich would be out of the side for next week.

oooooooo yes forgot about that :(:( anyone know the news???

Well if Jako is out and Willo to be dropped. Time to play some youngsters. Who do we want?

Hansen
Staker
Lynch
Johnson

Hansen & Staker for me.

I think I'd be inclined to go for that option too - Hansen must get a spell in the team before the years end. Whilst Staker has got big raps bout him

I think we're underselling ourselves if we drop Cox- with Jakovich maybe down for a while, McDougall will be the CHF for 4 quarters and foremost, but we'll need another backup tall coming off the bench, and Cox is the logical choice. The reality is that Doogs, for all his impressive game on the weekend, simply is not a ruckman, and we tend to get rather badly hammered in the ruck when he is there.

As a side, we've been most dominant this year when we're winning in the ruck- 4 quarters where we're on top in the ruck = 4 quarters where our midfielders are on fire. And frankly, if you're dominating out of the centre, it doesn't really matter who you have at either end of the ground- if you dominate the centre clearances, 9 times out of 10 you'll win the game by quite a large margin.

Gardiner and Cox would be arguably the best ruck combo in the league (White and Jolley, Primus and Brogan?) and we'd be fools for not going with it. The more rest Gardiner gets, the better he'll play when he's on.

My ins and outs? -

assuming they're fit, Gardiner and Matera are no brainers. The big question in defence is who we have who can handle Fevola? He's a classic example of the sort of midsized, versatile forward who has played well against us so far this year- (see: Brown, Brad Green, O'Loughlin)

I really hope Chick is okay. Assuming Jako isn't and he is, i'd go for

In: Gardiner, Matera
Out: Jakovich, Wilson

while fevola is a danger man i'm pretty confident that glass will be able to hold him. i'm more worried about whitnall.

also on the in list, macintosh could be ready for a call up.

I can't see Jako playing and I definitely would NOT drop Cox.

So much depends on injuries in terms of who plays. I believe we have shown that, whoever plays, we will go out and play an attacking game plan that proves we have a strong belief in ourselves.

Carlton are notoriously short of run (even the coach said so this week), so we should do what we always do and transfer the ball quickly into the forward line from a dominant midfield.

I believe percentage is a consequence of playing the game hard, not an objective to be aimed for. Also, percentage is achieved by keeping the opposition's score down more than scoring a bucketload yourself (which is why is should be changed to points difference).

Definite outs so far is, Chick. Jakovich will probably be out as well.

I doubt Mcintosh will be up for this week, he said after the North game that he would miss about another month.

With Jakovich being out, it probably is time to bring in one of our young talls.

With Jakovich, McIntosh & Chick definitely out and Gardiner not certain, Wilson might get a reprieve. If he doesn't, he's gone for good.

Carroll would expect a recall - how did he go in the WAFL? Lynch played a bit last year and would have to be a chance.

I'd like to see Hansen get a game. We're suddenly looking very inexperienced.

well I'd rather go in unexperienced against 14th place than 4th place I guess.........but still... hmmmmm

well if Jako is out, then I'd definetaly keep Cox in, because I'd like to see Doogs at CHF for 4 quarters.

Chick looks to be out, and I think he'll be replaced with a tall back. It'll probably be Carroll, but I'd rather see Lynch or Staker (preferably the latter) come into the match....

Wilson will be gone, and it depends on whether or not Fido comes up as to who will get in. If he is fit, he's an obvious inclusion, otherwise I think Hansen or Johnson should come in for Wilson.

Once again, all will come down as to whether Gardiner or Fido can play, which will not be known till later in the week. I'd say both will be named in the 25 though....

Ins - Staker/Lynch, Hansen/Johnson

Maybe i'm reading this wrong but you seem to be contradicting yourself here. On one hand your saying we shouldnt just bring guys in for the sake of it and then you say we should bring in Staker, Lynch, Hansen and Johnson. I know we have alot of injuries but I say we play our best team, whatever that is.

yea i knew someone would say that, I do actually think they should be given a shot at making our best 22 cause they would be very close to it. Especially Lynch/Staker because Carroll is a just crap.

And with Wilson's form, I'd say Hansen and Johnson would actually be better, and thereforein our best 22.

I'll accept a margin of 10 goals or less. If we can do that, we've done a better job than expected.

Will there be a Judd vs Koutoufides matchup?

Nah... I'm not going to make the same mistake twice. On second thought, they might help me eliminate some of West Coast's better players in order for Carlton to stand a chance. Good idea, Pellaeon wouldn't have come up with a better one.

Why drop Cox, he certainly wasnt our worst player against Sydney and with Gardiner certain to come back in, then he would only bolster our rucking division and give Gardiner some rest. Matera obviously must come in and Wilson should be dropped.

I can only see Wilson and Chick being the out's with Gardiner and Matera coming in. Stick Haynes back to FF where he belongs, Doogs a 4 quarter effort at CHF, except for when Gardy is resting up forward with Cox in the ruck.

We must win this game! Keep up the pressure on Port and keep us in front of the chasing pack.

actually, i think it would be alright to go a bit like last year ... line Cox up at CHF, let gardiner take the centre tap, and then let them swap ... still get to kick towards Gardy ... then play McDougall from the goal sqaure ...... or Haynes...

just a thought ...

anyway, Collica is the one I really want to see ...

Jakovich is a possible out as well, if thats the case I'd like to see one of the young talls, either forward or defender come in for him.

I reckon playing Doogs and Haynes from the goal square could work, but then you lose Doogs ability around the ground. Remember he is pretty good (considering his size) when the ball is on the ground.

I'd like to see Fido and Haynes/Wilson play from the square, and then have Sampi/Doogs play from the 50. How good was Sampi when he played at the top of 50?

Another thing, if the ball ever gets in our forward 50, go for the boundary at all costs, our goal conversion rate from boundary throw ins is purdy good.
