Richmond v Bulldogs - Made for TV ?
Come on guys you can't be serious. After the $10,000 'bet' between bulldogs and Saints earlier the cynical amongst us might think you are both milking an unfortunate situation. Why do we think that ? Presidents lunches aren't normally televised but both of them were in round 3. Watch this one get resolved as soon as theres no more PR value to it. Good on J Gutnick for reminding them that the AFL is the real enemy.
Collingwood ? finals material ? We think so. cynics might want to see a few wins after round 5 but had they beaten the hawks they would now be in their place. As it is they are one goal per game behind the mighty essendon.
But on Collingwood I think they exploited a theory of mine. that having a shot at goal outside 50m at colonial is a high percentage option. They took every opportunity to bomb in and it paid off handsomely. 18 of their 22 goals were from outside 40m and surely the defensive flooding is easily beaten by this tactic.
Essendon - obviously you don't take them lightly and only 3 losses since Piggy was a full forward is hardly conclusive evidence but I don't think they look like they have a clue when they are losing - probably due to lack of practice in this regard.
Perhaps they will copy the Collingwood long bombs and try to beat sydney this week - if the weather conditions are right. Theres a line of thought that they will react and beat sydney. I hope so too as then the Hawks might beat Melbourne and go top of the ladder which hasn't happened since Dermie was running around for them.
I know the hawks have been all right so far but I worry about Melbourne. They looked quite fit as they ran the game out against Geelong. Hopefully hawks get well in front early and ride it out. If so the Hawks could stay top for a while with games against Bulldogs, Crows, Saints and West coast all very winnable before a Blockbusted v Essendon in round 9.
Which brings me to sydney. On top with huge percentage but has any team played the 3 poorest performers in the first three rounds ? West coast, Adelaide and North will never play this badly all season. They may be playing well but with 13 games at thir home ground (11 to go) and 3 wins already this could be the free ride of the century. If you can't get a flag in 2001, bloods fans, there's no hope.
Oh, and Lloyd must be suspended, or there's no justice.
