The obvious collapse in the last quarter was extremely disappointing... Hopefully we can rectify that and remove it from our game. The burst in the 3rd quarter was impressive, I am still confident we will know over Port next week at home and regain some more form.

I think it will be a good lesson for the team. They took their foot of the pedal and allowed the Roos back in. It was good for them to be challenged like this. Good game, but thanks channel 7 for your crap coverage. Thank god fox will replay the game in full later tonight.

What the %*& were Ch7 doing?????? Not only were the highlights of the first half dodgy, they started the 3rd quarter late!! Bad, bad, bad...

The Cats played really great footy in the 3rd, and held off the Roo's challenge in the 4th which you always knew was coming. Good result, think the Cats will be satisfied, not ecstatic.

Moons, Jnr, Corey, Chappy. All on the bench. I think shutting up shop 15 minutes out from full time was a bit foolish.

We should have gone away with it, rubbed their nose in it instead of 'resting' players.

Secondly, I think the umpires had a fair bit to do with the comeback of the Roos. Several extremely soft decisions went their way during the last, where decisions for Mooney getting an obvious push in the back were left alone.

The push in the back downfield against Stokes was about as dismal a decision as you will get, ohhh hang on, the report of Milburn is probably worse.

Our overuse of the ball was disgusting at times. Ridiculous dinky kicks that didn't go 15m, poor kicking too. Several of our kicks whilst unmarked went straight to a Roos backman, no wonder Nathan and a couple of others didn't get it.

geelong played well in the 3rd quater too get away, but looked flat early in the game although never looked like loosing they always had nths measure .
in the final quater at the 15 minute mark geelong had the game won 44 points up and slipped back into 2nd gear and let nth get some cheap goals , geelong looked too have some sore bodys out there and resting the big names during the last quater will help for next weeks game with port who are going well at the right time of the year ..

interested too hear what everyone thought of the umpiring over the weekend as a whole ?

and also the milburn over the mark 50 and throwing the mouth gaurd ? i think a $1500 fine might cover it , stupid act but clearly an umpiring mistake and a costly one at that , it will cost a team a final this year .(the free against motlop for pushing using his leg too take a hanger is the worst i seen this year ,it took a goal from port and hawks went down the field and scored a goal , a 12 point turn around at a critical time in the match .

i reackon the umpires are struggling with there own interpretations now and making it up as they go ............

What Kickingoals just said. But fair dinkum, we got crucified by the umpires and the general bounce of the ball - take for example that contested ball on the half back flank there in the last where Scarlo was the only player near it but it bent at right angles 25 metres to a North player.

We've been run over from there before in seasons past, but a few times this year now we've steadied and put away the deciding goal. all up it was great hitout in terms of both intensity and in terms of the boys knowing they can't take the foot off the clutch.

I'd rather they learned that lesson now than in the last term of a preliminary final.

From what I saw we seemed to slow down a couple of times through the game and let them back in.

Happy with the fact that there was a conscious effort to gain control of the corridor repeatedly through the day. Was surprised we didn't see more of woja breaking the lines with some fast running. From memory we only had him do it once?

Lots of cheap shots from the roos, which was disappointing to see, they're better than that. Good to see Mooney, come back on in the 4th with a smile after being dragged of to settle him down. In the past he would have come back on twice as angry..

At the end of the day I'm just happy with the win.

:thumbsu: Great stuff guys!

Changes
Nathan Ablett for Gardiner
(Obviously struggling with injury. Why did he even play? Needs a rest anyway)
Varcoe for Byrnes (Tired body. Still rushing defenders, but getting shrugged off way too often. As usual, not getting enough of his own ball)
King for Blake (Hate to say it, but he's goooone)

?? marks on Wojak.
Is he injured? Apart from one run where he took on 3 Kangaroos players including Wells, he did nothing. Is he injured?

Just got back

-Skill Level shocking for most of the match
-Overuse and generally stupid handballs
-First Half was just piss poor generally
-Joel Corey and Mackie did their usual stupid kicks
-Nablett was slightly dissapointing but please do not bring in Gardiner

-Mooney was fantastic
-Ablett did well considering he was being molested the whole match
-Jimmeh was class
-Steve Johnson was class in the 3rd

So we played about 25% of our potential and still won be 27 points so I'm very happy :thumbsu:

One thing I can say, how about Ablett's goal from beyond the 50 !!

We discussed a couple of weeks ago about who is the biggest kick after Hunt in the team.

I think the kick from Ablett from about 55m to then clear the line by about 5m or so was a gem, especiallly when we needed it.

Quality and leadership, rolled into one.

Nathan is a worry. They mentioned they were working on his hip after the game was over. Is he playing injured? I can live with Travis because if his defensive pressure, but Nathan is a real weak link at the moment.

Good win guys definately had our measure for almost the whole of todays game but we did pressure you guys alot and work hard at stoppages etc... so id like to think most of the pressure we applied against your ball carriers contributed to sloppy kicks and turnovers etc.. i think we blocked up the space very well and made it difficult for you guys to play your usual flowing game style, although you got away a bit in the third quarter!!

Good luck for the rest of the year guys!!

Kelly has been great all year, I wouldn't put him in the same context as King.

Nath is struggling, however he is holding down the second key forward spot, leaving guys like Chappy, SJ, Kelly and Stokes take the lesser opponents.

I can't see anyone else who can take his spot, Gardiner maybe, however I think Nathan is better than Charlie.

Yeah maybe injured, who else can you put in ??

I think with Trav he needs 2" stops on his boots, he always seems to be sliding over.

Nath if fit, should be in the lineup.

Wojcinski in business class today?

North melbourne had a real crack today so some of our players stats aren't as good as when we are easily dominating the game. I think that is pretty normal in tough games. But still I think overall the Geelong team performed better on a whole than the Roos. I think one of the differences between our sides is that our bottom 4-5 players in our 22 are better than the Roos bottom 4-5 (talent/skill wise). I think this was born out with Geelong having 80+ interchanges for the match and the Roos having only 50+. The Roos were relying far more on their proven players where we are happy to rotate players without worrying it will cost us. Although some may argue that lapse in the 4th quarter was due to having 4 of our best players off at the time. I agree that would have contributed, but I do think the intensity fell away for us because they thought the game was won.

Needs another preseason in the gym to get some more strength through his midsection. He also needs a bit more size in the upper body... Come to think of it, he needs more size full stop. He is not big enough yet to effectively play the style of game he is trying to play in finals football. He will get smashed.

Nathan isn't fit, and shouldn't be in the lineup even if he is fit. Today capped off a horror 2 month patch for him, and surely the coaching panel must be looking to bring in some fresh blood. We can't afford to carry anyone in the finals. I say give Gardiner a run before the finals just to see how he goes. You never know - we might need him.

I was all for giving King a chance to prove himself, but he's spent the last few games plodding around like one of those long necked herbivore dinosaurs. He is slow and has no ferocity. He should be sent back to the twos and only used if Blake or Ottens becomes injured. Macintosh's mark just before half time typified King... Couldn't jump high enough, fell heavily and looked sore when he got up.

Kelly has had a good run, but today was pretty ordinary. Was tried in all number of positions, but just seemed to be flat wherever he played.

Ottens is a freak. He may have caught up to Mooney as #1 at the club in terms of importance.

King is SURELY gone now. Their comeback was largely due King being in the ruck.

And Dog is a star.

Just wondering who played on Harvey?

We lost the last quarter by 10 points, not really a collapse to worry about.

Wojcinski in business class today?

Yep. Business class Wojak. Got his confidence shot a few times though... Poor delivery to him ran him straight into trouble. Was anyone tagging him? It seemed that there was someone on him as soon as he got it. Could have just been that the Kangaroos corridor busting tactics destroyed his game?

By the way, his stats were:

3 kicks, 1 handball, 3 marks, 1 tackle.
