I have been keeping an eye on Roberton of late because the club obviously see's something in him. Something I have noticed this season (so far) is his lack of pace and "seemingly" want to chase. A number of times he is just too slow to be in the contest and his body language seems to me like he is just chasing to show he is chasing - no real intent to actually catch or put pressure on the player

If you look at the body language of Hill chasing Danger on the weekend, everyone knew that Hill was giving it his all to catch Danger (who is quicker than I gave him credit for). I just dont see that hunger in Roberton.

Is it his tank that is lacking and therefore cant compete for the full 4 quarters or does he genuinely lack pace and the want to compete?

He's always been described as having an excellent attitude to training and preparation and a real competitor.
Presumably if you've been paying attention you would have noticed that he generally competes very well, runs off his man, takes the game on and has good skills.
He just looked shagged to me toward the end of that match.
I'm a fan.

gee reckon your being harsh..... if your reffering to his slow chase during the 3rd quarter, dylan had sprinted the length of the ground 20 seconds prior to that, i would say he was pretty much spent after that.... in general, i think robbo plays with great urgency and poise.

He's not fast and doesn't look a smooth mover when he runs. Big call to say he's not trying.

Really?????? i reckon he covers the ground fantastically well, he looks the very definition of smooth mover when he is running, kinda like mundy... he certainly doesnt look like he is running through hommus like kepler and micky b do

That chase on the weekend looked bad but he was absolutely shagged after a previous effort and still put in to pressure the player. I think another preseason will do him wonders but no worries about his tank

What's not to like. The lad wears a Rambo headband..

Looks like a genuine prospect for Freo'. He is industrious enough in how he takes on the game.

I saw the chase being spoken about and it did suprise me a little that my buddy had dropped off, what I wasn't aware of was the chase that he made just prior to it. He does have a lanky physique, he looks a lot like Fyfe when in full stride. Another pre-season will do him wonders as he's very dedicated and skillful.

Same running style as Bradley - good kick and reads the play well

I reckon we should bring in Ibbo for him if he is fit.

He will get plenty of chances thru the year

I am pretty sure i saw him chuck up during the last quarter.

Are you saying he moves as smoothly as Hill/Mora? That's a smooth running style - little energy is expended for maximum covering of the ground.

im not saying that, im just saying i think he covers the ground well, i would say bradley and micky b have an awkward gait, robbo is certainly not in that catagory

I doubt you know what a good running style looks like.

yes mr sports science im sure your the expert

It's not just the chase against the Crows in the 3rd but noticed it in the game against the Cats as well. I wasnt in my normal seats (late renewal of membership) and was on the 50m line on the opposite end of the ground to the cheer squad. I noticed quite a few right in front of me.

I still see potential in Roberton and I do like the way he runs off opponents, my thoughts were more around his tank and not being able to run out the game - therefore looking bad in chases. Although he does still look slow to me

Was very impressed when Robbo picked up the ball when sliding on his knees and anticipated a bump and pulled back, letting the crows player fly past before he got up and went on on his merry way

The bump would have ended up being an elbow to the head and would have got the adelaide player rubbed out for weeks

His awareness is very impressive and he has good skills also

Listen, to be chased by Dylan Roberton is an honour that not all should be afforded. Footballers who play like gumbies don't deserve his attention. When Gary Ablett looks back on his career one day, he won't be talking about his premiership medals, his brownlow, or his million+ dollars per year at the Gold Coast. No. He will be telling his grandchildren how he ALMOST outran Dylan Roberton.

And that's the truth of it.

Agree with this. Like what i've seen from him so far, I'm also a fan.

I'm not a sports scientist. My brother was a sprinter though, and I've seen lots of good running styles that are efficient and cover ground well. Roberton's isn't. This isn't a problem, he will still be a good footballer.

is your last name capabianco by any chance?

he's no hill, but he is no bradley.... anyway, i think we can move on :)
