Best 22 (Fully fit minus N.Brown who hasn't played this year - based on form)
F: Andrew Krakouer Chris Dawes Steele Sidebottom
HF: Dayne Beams Travis Cloke Alan Didak
CEN: Dale Thomas Luke Ball Heath Shaw
HB: Nick Maxwell Ben Reid Harry O'Brien
B: Leon Davis Chris Tarrant Alan Toovey
FOLL: Darren Jolly Scott Pendlebury Dane Swan
BENCH: Sharrod Wellingham Leigh Brown Ben Johnson Jarryd Blair

On current form: (outside of these 3 changes it would be very hard to kick anyone out of our best 22. Didak + Maxwell have both been struggling to start the year, but by finals should be 100%, and when right Didak is top 5 and Maxwell is top 10 at club)
Scott Thompson - Ben Johnson
Kurt Tippett - Leigh Brown
Patrick Dangerfield - Jarryd Blair

Sam Jacobs would get games over Wood, but not Jolly.

Possible but not certain:
Graham Johncock (Would be looking to replace Toovey or Davis. Only problem is both have been inside our best 10 this year on form which makes it no certainty, as good as Johncock is)
Ben Rutten (v Tarrant is pretty even)
Nathan Van Berlo (No clear player to replace. Maybe Wellingham)
Chris Knights (Again. Who to replace? At a similar level and type to Beams. But would probably take Beams if given choice)

Vince in previous years I would have said yes, on this years form no.

If you decide to post on another teams board please be respectful and constructive. Keep in mind that it is their board and each board has it's own culture and values. I've always found the Adelaide Board a good one, we had some good input in our recent match from their posters on this board, so if you post please return the favour.

Must say i find this very interesting.I said no Crows player would make your best 22.I reckon Tippett can be anything but as of right now i would take Brown.Next year will be Tippetts best year.Davis has been superb this year now he has been reinvented back there i would not change him for Johncock on this years form.

Just a question on Buckley not in your best 22 while i have not seen him every game the ones i have i thought he went ok,or do i have that wrong.I to would rate Paddy over Blair.

This 22 is probably the general consensus accross this board.

Our 22 is fairly even and probably our group of 28 is what makes us strong (players including: Macaffer, Goldsack, Dick amongst others). Only the 3/4 stars (Swan, Pendlebury, Thomas) - Didak when he gets back to his best. Shaw could also be mentioned amongst that group based on form this year.

L.Brown isn't a star, but he is a handy role player because he can make Dawes + Cloke better up forward by providing another target as well as playing that 10-15% ruck time to backup Jolly/Wood. Tippett is a fantastic talent and I view him both as a more dangerous forward and at his height a better ruckman also. Doesn't offer quite the flexibility L.Brown does, but I'd take the talent if given the choice.
Those big forwards in bottom 8 sides often suffer from lack of delivery and I think in a top 4 side Tippett would produce greater numbers.

Simon Buckley has improved really quickly this year and his game has been coming on surprisingly well. In the early rounds he showed some poor decision making at times when under pressure, but after 3-4 weeks in the side after getting used to the pace of playing in the 1s he has really started to get used to the structures and has become a surprisingly productive player and a bit of a weapon at times with his long kicking. Mick Malthouse has allot of faith in his ability and it wouldn't shock anyone if he retained his position in the side.
I personally don't regard him as best 22, but others do.

Sloane and Thompson have been our only midfielders to have any real influence this year. Dangerfield might do if we would actually play him in there.

Whether the 6th and 7th Collingwood midfielders are good enough to stay in over those three is something you guys can answer better than me.

I would imagine Tippett earns a jumper, but he's the only forward performing adequately in our team at the moment, so nobody else from there.

I can't imagine our rucks are getting a look in. Jacobs as a second ruck maybe? Probably not.

Down back our performing players are Rutten and Johncock. Who would they replace?

Doubt it, considering it doesn't have Ben Reid in it :)

Tippett, Dangerfield, Thompson, Knights and Rutten would probably all get in. Douglas, Johncock and Jacobs would all we sniffing about.

Tippett > Brown (I'd probably actually go Tippett > Dawes, then Jacobs over Brown)
Dangerfield > Wellingham
Thompson > Blair
Knights > Krakouer
Douglas would fight it out with Beams/Sidey, their goal kicking would probably keep him out. Johncock and Davis would be neck and neck.

We'd work Rutten into the rotations down back. Potentially plonk him at FB and switch Tarrant forward.

Paste from what I posted on Adelaide's board: Thoughts?
I actually think quite a few people overrate some of our players. Particuarly the fringe players. Quite a few are made to look much better due to structure and the key players around them.

Definitely would take the following (considering age like for like):
Rutten over Tarrant
Vince (fit) over Wellingham
Dangerfield over Blair
Johncock over Davis
Tippett over L Brown (probably also Dawes)
Thompson over Johnson or Maxwell
(Have not considered N Brown due to injury. But would take Davis over him anyway who is out injured for you)

Would also love the Pies to take Jacobs off your hands for no one .... To replace Jolly when he retires

Johncock is in great form, but from what I've heard (I must admit I've only seen a couple of Collingwood games this year) Davis has been in ripping form as well. Is there another player he could replace in the 22?

O'Brien. They are both similar players in alot of ways and play similar roles. Johncock is better defensively though. O'Brien offers more getting across to offer support to our other defenders in the air.

O'Brien wouldn't get dropped if Johncock was available for selection, so he wouldn't really be taking his place in the side, even if he took his position on the field (which would be questionable anyway, considering Johncock hasn't been in good form himself).

Anyway like what others have said, Johncock, Rutten, Dangerfield, Tippett (when fit) and Thompson would be the only players who'd be up for selection in a fit Collingwood side, and even then they wouldn't be that straight forward. Players like Phil Davis could well and truly get themselves up to and past those levels though.
