I'd like to see tuohy have a crack in the middle from time to time

Agree, so many options for HBF so makes sense to give Tuohy and/or Byrne and/or Docherty a run in the middle; if Tuohy doesn't get a run as a midfielder next year then I can't see it happening any time in the future. Agree with comments on Sheehan - before injury he was certainly looking like a keeper.

We don't have keepers in our game, and anyway I don't believe he was a keeper in the Gaelic game either :)

I haven't really watched Sheehan and Byrne in the 2's only when they played seniors but it really seems they are overrated on this board a bit?

Bottom line is they haven't played much AFL at all (i know they had injuries this year), but reading some comments on them you'd think they were a young gun like Angus Brayshaw coming through the ranks.

The fact that the club chose to only leave enough spots for 1 of them to get upgraded, shows that they are still a fair way off and i don't think we can really pin our hopes on them being the next big thing.

Not sure anyone is.

Byrne's first ever aussie-rules game.

Over rated?..........maybe................

But if he was a month younger.........

................. this old reformed punter would break the drought and get on for the Rising Star.

Edit: BTW Happy birthday Casey

You say you've seen them in the seniors so you'd have seen Sheehan do very well then, right?

And if you've not seen much at all of Byrne then you probably shouldn't comment, right?

So you've seen Byrne play one quarter of AFL football & you are saying he is over-rated on this board. Perhaps if you had watched him in the VFL you would understand the enthusiasm.

As long as Byrne isn't troubled by injury, he will be the best of our 3 Irishman. The kid can really play.

Agreed Byrne is arguably one of the most exciting players on our list actually.

Had a few minutes to myself on the weekend so I watched the one quarter Byrne played against Essendon. He was good. Very good.

There was a VFL game last year. He played down back and threw himself at pack mark contests and punched the ball away well. Then he was onball and won clearances in a tough manner, but not only that in tight situations he showed he knew how to get it and run away with it but also when to dish it off then lay a shepherd. And then he went forward and took a mark at HF. Kid is a really good prospect. Good thing is he's just 21 so has plenty of time to develop. Interesting thing will be where do they play him, down back or on a wing or in ball or up fwd? And in seniors or VFL? I'd expect he will defo get NAB games and see where that leads. I would love to see him on a wing where he can float back or forth depending on the situation. He can learn the game that way, that is how the game flows, when he should go back to help out, when there's an opportunity to go fwd and create a mismatch etc. I say wing bec he's got a nice turn of pace.

Sure maybe not overrated but maybe expectations are too great?

Again, I read posts on how he will he a gun player and in some peoples minds best 22 yet he's barely played afl and might still be on the rookie list this year.

More about tempering expectations

I think what some of us see is great physical attributes. He's quick, agile.

But I don't think anyone is saying there's not a lot of work to be done. His first game for us, a Nab game, he racked em up silly down back but turned it over a helluva lot.

Then his first real game he came in late as Sub, racked up again but made a nice ol blunder that gifted a goal to The Scum.

So it'll take time.

Anyone who puts their hand on their heart and says he will defo be a star is silly.

Lots of water to go under bridge.

But we are desperate for hope and he certainly presents very well physically and can play multiple positions and he's young so there's certainly something we can be excited about.

If he was a 17 year old Victorian playing TAC I reckon the pundits would be praising his physical attributes and that's an important thing scouts look for.

We've done quite well out of Ireland over the past couple of years and we now have a strong trio in Tuohy, Sheehan and Byrne.

Not sure we'll see all three in the senior side at the same time but I see no real reason why it couldn't happen in theory. Certainly the chances are higher if as I suspect a greater emphasis is placed on ball use with that being a real strength of all of theirs. Bolton will know how important this is in modern football - bad kicking is bad football and the more good users of the ball we can bring into the club, the better.

Tuohy is obviously the most established of the trio having been here the longest - he is now very firmly entrenched in our best side and has been for quite some time. Seems to have been up and down a bit over the past few years but had a career best year in 2015 and continues to emerge not just as a player but also as a leader - I'd like to see that rewarded with inclusion in our 2016 leadership team.

Plenty of hype surrounds Byrne and for mine that hype is justified. Still has a long way to go yet but the rate of improvement in his game in such a short time frame has been nothing short of phenomenal. As was to be expected he looked completely lost in his first outing during the NAB Cup but looked the exact opposite during his senior debut against Essendon not too long thereafter.

Byrne is already a very well rounded player and given his age that will likely only improve with greater exposure and experience under his belt. Not sure where he fits best but to have the ability to contribute in multiple positions is another bonus which will hold him in very good stead going forward.

I must admit I am not as enamored by Sheehan as many others seem to be. Has a wonderful kick on him but outside of that I am not convinced he has enough going for him to secure longevity at AFL level. Not putting a line through his name by any stretch of the imagination and I am very much prepared to admit he could be one to surprise me in 2016, but I am skeptical - perhaps my skepticism stems from the very limited exposure he has had, coupled with the fact he is 25 and coming off a season completely ruined by injury.

Very much looking forward to seeing what the three of them can produce in 2016.
