I'd prefer to throw pick 8, Poloa and Meyer at someone we are reasonably confidrnt will be very good. Not sure we can yet say that about Tomahawk. Kinda falls into the Ash Hansen according to your above criteria I'd have thought?;)

I think the complicated part would be getting Port and North to agree to their respective parts. Both get hugely ripped off.

Pick 4, 22 and Schulz we can get pick 20ish for him from somehwre if you prefer) for Hansen and McIntosh.

Sheesh, that's equivalent to what Carlton paid for Judd (he has won a brownlow, a flag, 2 B&F's and a Norm Smith btw)!! And in a crappier draft!

As I say, if we put 4, 22 and Schulz on the table for Hansen and McIntosh I reckon the meeting go longer than a couple of minutes... don't you agree?

Do you honestly believe you're a genuine contender in the next couple of years though? Trading for maybe 1 or 2 players when you are a genuine contender, to add some cream to the top, can work a treat for serious premiership threats but trading for players to try to become a contender will ensure your club is destined to fail.
Also, how old are a lot of those players? You need to draft more than trade to ensure continued success. Time and time again clubs have proven that this way only leads to failure. That includes your own club under Frawley...

Why exactly would we do this trade?

He was also uncontracted, wanted to leave the club and would only go to Carlton.

No I don't. The club wouldn't trade Hansen for pick four as a straight swap, so why would we effectively agree to add pick 22 and Schulz for McIntosh?

You're not going to get picks four and 22 off Port by offering them trash just because they're South Aussies, either.

Yeah, lets go ahead and rip our list to shreds!

Lets pick up Seaby, for pick 42 and a fringe player, no more than that.

Then try and trade off any unfullfilled potential that anyone else may be interested in and pick up what picks in the draft we can.

But the original post is Bull****, total crap.

I reckon you would trade 4 for Hansen quick smart. Then again, we can agree to disagree.

"Trash" offered to Port includes picks 8 and 26 remember....

But why? He's 19 years old and developing really nicely, so we'll now trade him for a 17-year-old we can start the process again on? If you can logically explain to me why we would do that I'll be very surprised.

They're not going to downgrade their first and second picks for two players who will just be list cloggers.

True, UTG, recycling players does have it's place. But in our case if we recycle at this point in time, we might be putting the cart before the horse dont you think?

Sure... I've just been reading this forum for a fair while and noting that we have a need for a ruckman and someone tall who can catch and kick long and straight. McIntosh and Hansen fit the bill.

Put it this way - if Polo, Meyer, Pettifer, Schulz and Hughes have identical years in 09 that they had in 08, they will be worth far less, or nothing at all.

Each have been in the system for a minimum 4 years (3 years for Cleve) and are hardly walk up starts with each having spent decent time with Coburg this year.

If we don;t think they are about to improve dramatically (and let's face it we all want it to happen but do we really think it will?) then we have an obligation to seek out alternatives.

Remember, this isn't playing with our core side here.... No one I've mentioned is the key to our future success.

But blokes like Hansen and McIntosh just could be...

Or, let's trade our noncore side above for whatever draft picks we can get... but that might take us back before we go forward, which given the likes of Brown, Richo, KJ and Bowden still rank among our better players is a luxury perhaps we don;t have.

This isn;t topping up, it's using the exaggerated value of draft picks this year to our advantage.

Tell you what, pick 8 would want to be pretty darn good if we're betting our future on not letting that pick go.

I will try and put this in the simplest possible terms for you, UTG.

Hansen to North is what Cotchin is to Richmond. Would you trade Cotchin for a pick?

But what of they reckon pick 8 would still get them the player they seek? What then? I can't see a massive need for another young ruckman at North, Blues, Dons or Brissy - certainly not ahead of the KPD and mids available.

Then it's basically a free couple of pretty decent players...

But what of they reckon pick 8 would still get them the player they seek? What then?

Then they'll see how badly you want pick four by asking for something worthwhile, not two duds who will just take up list spots.

Someone on the Port board put it best anyway - the difference between pick four and pick eight is getting who you want and getting who is left.

They will not trade you picks four and 22 because you're giving them Hughes and Meyer. That is a 100% guarantee.

If this happened I would be that happy :)............but unfortunately I don't think it will because neither Port or North will most likely agree to that.... But they should consider it cause it doesn't seem to unfair.

OK, I get it. Just hadn't noticed that he'd played a heap of games, and has hardly come in and stayed in thus far. The Tiger fan thing probably affected me too.

I just came up with the scenario and thought it could fly. If not, so be it, but hey it's been fun.

Perhaps we put much more thought into these things than the recruiters do??

Cheers

Why would North swap Swallow for King? King is a specialist back pocket who gets torn to pieces by pretty much everyone that plays on him. Sure he's got heart blah blah blah but where would he fit in our backline... I wouldn't nominate any of the other guys to step back for him.

Ohhh ok you wanna trade pick 4 and 22 and Schulz for McIntosh and Hansen... oh what's that, you wanted our 2nd rounder as well? Hahaha :thumbsu::thumbsu: Hansen in 2 years time >> Schulz anytime in his career

McIntosh is probably worth pick 4 and 22 by himself, less risk in selecting an 18 year old knee reco ruckman and you are getting pretty much a ready made star at 24 who will give you 8 years solid service.

Please...
