News Tiger Number Changes

Stoked Conca has kept hold of 30 and respecting one of the all time greats of the club:thumbsu:
Hopefully people will finally stop calling for a number change now.

Here's an idea.

Does anyone think after Newman's retires/hands over the captaincy, the new captain should just keep their original number (ie captain Cotchin to wear number 9, etc). But then to keep the respect the club obviously wants towards number 17, just to retire number 17 all together?
Nah, it's a nice thing. And at the end of the day, a number is a number.
People get way too excited about them.

No .. will never happen and we have been over this many times

11 was the obvious choice for Batchelor

2 will suit Grimes down to the ground

24 to Griffiths meh

7 to Dea... not sure, 7 normally is a midfielder or forwards number, not sure if it will suit him. Nothing to do with his talent

As I said in my previous post, Mick Malthouse was no.7. Hardly a forward. If he can be as good as Mick I will be delighted.

lol just cause you have 17 on your jumper ;)
Hahahahahaha, nah, I just got that because I like the number :p

But really, if Lids went from #3 to #50 tomorrow, who would actually care?

Like all the nonsense about who got Richo's old number...

Surprised Dea and Grimes got single digit numbers but it obviously shows that they are highly rated. Griffiths was always going to move up given the club has given sons the number of their fathers in recent times. Maric was lucky that Morton had moved on so that he could continue with the number he wore at the Crows.

Highish numbers available for new draftees next year are: 27(15) 31(26) & 42(55) with 43 44 45 47 48 49 & 50 available for rookies

hapy with the changes, im a big believer in numbers, nothing worse than seeing a bunch of players in 46, 41 48 et al, looks like we're fielding a rag tag bunch of rookies. Bit suprised in No 7 on Dea but Ive heard the wraps on this kid and whoa they are HUGE...I applaud the changes

By my reckoning 1, 5, 15, 22, 27, 31 and then 42 onwards.

1 is still Newman's number, so nobody will be getting that. The newly allocated numbers are fine with me. Thought Griff may get 5, but I suppose he still needs to show us what he's got ....:thumbsu:

What about Posty...Dea gets an upgrade and he doesn't....WTF

Would suggest perhaps Posty hasn't requested a number change if thats the case.

Personally i would of like to of seen the following

2 - Another Gun Mid (15 or 26) hopefully
5 - Griffiths
7 - Conca
11 - Batchelor
15 - Grimes
16 - Dea
20 - Maric

38 - Morris , looks like he requested it otherwise 22 would of looked right on him.

I believe that the only reason Griff has gotten an upgrade is because morris would of requested the 38.

I'm not one for taking your fathers old number. Make your own history.
Same goes when coming to another club, start fresh.

But 38 was both his dads number and the number he wore at West Adelaide! Surely it's nice for him to continue the tradition. I think that it bonds them with their new club even more. :thumbsu:

I guess he might have a attachment to it.

But I would hate to be Richo's kkid running out in the #12.
Too much pressure.

That being said, I hope Richo's son runs out for us regardless.

Honestly, Dusty is the only recruit in the last 2 years who's truly deserved a number upgrade IMO.
All others are based on potential, I'd rather see them actually earn the number or just give it to them straight up and not go through some BS process wear they were some random high number for a year then get a low one because they managed to string more than two games together.

Wouldn't have happened anyway as they have the new policy of not giving low numbers to draftees.

Personally I don't think wearing a number <35 is any kind of 'insult' anyway. And there have been many a good Tiger player to wear a high number; Scott Turner springs to mind.

If I was a father son selection I think I would be honoured to wear my dad's number, and very few (Ablett, Watson) don't have the same number. Even David Bourke went to 30 once Freezer retired.

Once we become a good team the system will work better. Unfortunately being shit and having so many kids coming through in a rebuild means we run out of high numbers and are delisting low ones so we either promote early or give them numbers into the 60's.

Jake Batchelor deserved a number upgrade in my eyes, until the kid got injured he was having a stellar year and really made hb his own.

I don't think that he would have requested it per se but the club probably offered it to him if he wanted it which he obviously agreed.
