The Morton trade was a win for both parties. If there are footy gods, we did them right by getting him to his club of choice/the only one that was interested and not putting him through the uncertainty of PSD/ND.
I'm a little disappointed to see him go, especially for a low price. For his flaws he was still an exciting player to watch. But overall I don't mind that we accepted a late pick for him to get to the club of choice without having to go through the uncertainty of the drafts. There have been a few of these types of goodwill trades in recent years by a few clubs. I like the way that in all the madness of the meat market that is trade week, clubs can still show some respect to players in this way. :thumbsu:

I cant believe that people are happy with this pathetic draft period.

We started of well with the morris trade, but could of been better as shown by stkilda. We could of had Saad & Morris with the same deal.

It got worse, the 1st offer we make to an uncotracted player that only gets a hanfull of games and is offered a minimum contract and gets told that he will be helped to get to another club. Our 1st offer is 'EARLY 3nd round )

We 'HELP' Mitch Morton to get to another club !! wtff go into the draft and work your own way there, why the hell should we facilitate a players need who has done SFA to help himself .............. If it was a player like tuck ......... sure , But Morton want out let him get delisted SICK OF THIS NICE GUY SH!T

then we get the rubbish story that mitch was going to get delisted anyway .............. What a load of rubbish
White,nason,webberly,Taylor,Thursfield,Mguanne,Moore,jackson,connors
All should be gone before a player like Morton on sheeer talent.

No wonder we cant hot the side of a barn wall with duds on our list and we get rid of a player that kicks 40+ goals

Finally .................. We decide that we wont use our compo because we have a super draft coming up & miss out on a superb ruckman which we are desperate for or a hard inside mid HFF that we dont have on our list.

Then this year in a weak draft decide to trade in and take loose change as steak knives & consider it a win
Pick 26 this year is like pick 45 last year The compo we got as a bonus will probably be pick 50 after all the compo's are used.

Lets see how much balls the club has got and see if it will delist mguane, webberly, taylor, nason, graham, connors.
because not 1 of these players are even worth giving vfl game time to.

Piss them off asap

GUN you're miles off mate.
If our compo pick is 50 next year it means our original one was about 45. Or Port won a premiership. We were going to delist Morton like it or not that's a totally different conversation. We helped him get there to save him going to the draft (a player we werent going to keep) Maybe one day the tables will be reversed and we will want a player Sydney no longer require and we can get them for a pick 79. Pick 26 we should get a decent player for what is a 3-5 pick downgrade. The Maric thing has been done to death. He's a tiger just accept it.

when the trade was done , the radio (sen0 mentioned its an end of 2nd round pick.

If it was like what i am reading Now on the bf forums where its straight after ports 2nd pick .................. Why the hell would they trade it then for the bock compo.

Doesnt really make sense ?

I suggest you start back pedalling with that embarrassing rant of yours, you saw a chance to pot the club and took it rather then doing your homework and getting all the facts right.

Because GC will likely finish close to bottom meaning the pick will be one of the first end of first round compo's. We would expect to make finals and probably have one of the last. Its a big win for us. GC are only using 1 draft pick this year so 26 means nothing to them. They got a free upgrade.

Just listened to MM on SEN.
Pretty good overall interview. Even the idiot Andy managed to contain himself a bit from antagonistic / smart-ass questions / comments.
Probably not too much more info that what was discussed here
MM stated
- he has to get his work rate up (which he says comes from good preseason)
- loss of confidence has severeley affected his ability
- coming out of contract at the end of the year led to needing time of thru the year
- RFC were good in how they allowed this
- still sees himself as a forward, but will play where-ever Longmire requires
- doesn't see himself as a walk-in 22 player
- RFC were good in trying to assist in getting to another club

Was fairly emotional in the interview, but i think more from nerves
Was a gutsy effort even to go on SEN
Good luck to him.

yep and that includes us dude...so we now have a pick in the 70s and we can see what we can do with whoever we take at that pick...you think the swans a going to get alot of value, but what you think, we thought and it all ended up in the now. If they have that magic formula then good for him and good for them. At the end of the day we didnt have it and it was shit for him and shit for us.....what do you think we should have done? waited and waited to see if we could hire a Houdini to wave his magic wand and give us the answer?
Some tigerheads need to move on from the old mindset that has kept us wallowing in the mire for the last 2 decades...that is, dont be afraid to move a player on because he "might" come good somewhere else. We have done the opposite and our list turned to shit, because we are still waiting. ;)

Yep, it definitely includes us. Thats probably more my point. Once again we went for a player with known work ethic and attitude issues and we failed. Joins the list of Collard, Roberts, Krak, McGrath, Taylor, Peterson etc etc ect

I dare say, we have not been able to get ONE of those decisions right, bar perhaps Cousins which was a pretty isolated unique situation.

It's just another failure to etch onto the concrete wall. It's disappointing, but if Morton gets it to together at Sydney, it will make it more disappointing as i think that will be a smeer on the club -once again

Why is it a smear on the club because a player couldn't or wouldn't pull his finger out and do the work needed to perform their best?

We gave Mitch the opportunities to turn things around, we told him what he needed to do to become a better player, yet he just couldn't get it done. Hardly our fault that Mitch didn't take this onboard and turn himself around.

Absolutely. Every best wish to him.

He was the bloke who stood up and tried to help TT, bringing him into his home and trying to mentor.

I'd really like him to have some success in Sydney

NO Bloody way mate, I stand by all i said except the Compo pick part & was only going by what was reported on the radio where the mentioned it was an end of 2nd round selection which we would recieve.

The rest of the rant is still valid.

and what about West Coast? will it be a smear on them? or does it not smear them, since we didnt smear them? Come on dude, mitch might well come out and vindicate the swans big investment risk, since they parted with the prized pick. At the end of the day, this is club number 3, the probability of players who have played the "number of games" mitch has in his 7 years and find themselves at club number 3, coming out and delivering on the "potential" that keeps them in the eye of recruiters, is minimal.
Unfotunately for mitch its not about the "potential" anymore, its all about sustained hard work and consistent role playing in a teams game plan. If Horse can get him to do that, then good luck to him. ;)

:thumbsu:A good move for Mitch. Sydney and Longmire (and Roos before him) get the very best and every last ounce out of players, so he has found a good new home!

Absolutely. He cops a lot of flak for being selfish etc, but whenever I've heard him speak I hear an honest, mature, self deprecating man.

Here's the SEN interview - http://www.sen.com.au/audioplayer/Audio/Sydney-Swans-recruit-Mitch-Morton/3287

Really good stuff. Next year at Sydney he'll become exactly the player we need.

Wasn't totally sold on bringing Morton in (more in relation to his attitude and taking a young players spot not the pick 79 investment) but after listening to his interview on SEN I'm willing to give the guy a chance and hope for his sake that he can get his head together and be an important part of our club, if he buys into our culture I see no reason why he can't make it.

It's also nice to deal with a club who looks out for the wellbeing of it's players more than trying to take advantage of it's opposition at the trade table.:thumbsu:

Id imagine we'd be hoping if one of your unrequired players wants to come to us in future years the favour will be re-paid. Beats delisting the player and making him hope he gets to his desired club.

I really do believe Mitch can get his shit together at Sydney. I think it all depends on how he is coached. He only seemed to struggle once Dimma showed up and didn't tolerate Mitch's lack of defensive ability. (Which I do agree with.)

If Horse can tolerate Mitch's flaws he will be a 40-50 goal player. If he asks Mitch the same questions Dimma has, then I don't see it working out.

MM has real talent, the ability to rip up a game. But he simply hasn't produced for so long that I guess the club worked out he isn't likely to. Good luck to him, he sounds like a decent guy. I suspect that Sydney is a great place for him. He can run around with some really good players with a great attitude and get away from the fishbowl of melbourne. Sydney are smart and usually know well what they are doing in trades. I would be happy for him to play well for them and create a worthwhile AFL career. But I suspect he just hasn't got whatever it is to really show his talent consistently.

You're welcome to Moore, Bevan, Seaby, Meredith and probably White next year.:thumbsu:

This is 110% correct and my sentiments exactly..
I lost patience in MM and the end of this season when he showed his 'true colours' by trying to take that selfish speccy.
A leopard doesnt change his spots normally and I have some reservations whether MM can no matter where he plays..
All that being said good luck to the guy!!

Trade period really shows some people up to be completely clueless on just how difficult it is to get a trade done.
If it was so easy more trades would get done, we are not trading player cards here, its real life footballers.
We had a very successful trade period. Picked up Maric for fair market price (another trade which showed up those who had NFI) and Morris for next to nothing, then traded in pick 26 for a swap of compos that will probably see us drop a few picks from late 20s to early 30s.

yep, its mind boggling to think if the GUN was an aints supporter...I mean they had to and didnt get action in the trade week and now are left holding a burning candle...and that with value plus players. ;)
