Yeah, I know, it's AFLX........... But oh boy do I love the way this boy goes about it!

Backs himself in with ball in hand, sticks his tackles, loves a second and third effort on the odd occasion that he doesn't stick the first one (I think 2-3 of his tackles resulted in holding the ball tonight?)

You'd name him in Round 1 with a fair bit of confidence.

Like your optimism,

But I wasn’t overly thrilled with him. I was under the impression he was very quick. He got mowed down a couple of times unable to break away from his opponents which I was surprised by, since I was under the impression he was highly rated for his x factor and outside speed and flair.

Happy to wait for JLT tho... he is certainly no lock on what I saw tonight.

Loved the look of Fogarty tho! Looked very aggressive and hungry to Harrass the ball carrier, gets in and under, has mongrel and great skills.

Thurlows foot skills where a class above at times, could be some weapon.

Kelly was not that impressive tho for me

Where did you get the impression that Kelly was recruited for pace? He's an inside midfielder that can push up forward.

Ha Ha! I did not see the game. But reading the preceding two posts makes up for it. Keep up the good works.

Reminds me a bit of the 12th Man....

Tony Greig: I like the look of young Ramatunga Bill. I think he shows a lot of promise.
Bill Lawry: Well, I haven't seen much of him, but what I have seen hasn't impressed me that much.

:D

I thought he was ok tonight in the final, but not overly impressive. I think he may need 5-10 games before I can make a proper assessment. He is not super fast, but not slow, more like Duncan pace as mentioned by someone earlier; which is okay still, he won't be a liability on the park like GHS.

I remember mentioning Kelly's questionable pace before we drafted him.
(found it ..Post 363 ...in the gfc-2018-player-trading-drafting-fa-rumours-and-wish-lists thread) ...
The highlights I have seen still make it questionable. Still id wait till a real game , on real ground , with 18 per side to put any pegs in the ground. That game looks like glorified circle work on an enlarged grass basketball court ... and he looked good with ball in hand on the right foot if he had time.

Agree with some others. Didn't love what I saw from Kelly but plenty of caveats for first game, strange format etc. Runs hard, but decision making was sub optimal (not unlike Menegola).

Looking forward to seeing him on a bigger ground though. He definitely isn't a bust which is a massive win for any draft pick.

Geez, I could of written that myself. Exactly my thoughts. Fogarty was more exciting on that performance. Kelly looked okay, was disappointed with his speed, I too thought he was going to be quicker. He doesn't look to be the explosive player I thought we were getting.

Now that you mention it....I don't know, maybe his highlights package??? Thought he looked like he had some pace. Also, I thought it was mentioned a bit that he was going to be a ready motlop replacement.

Kelly looks to have a lot in common with Menegola. I can understand why your excited by the prospect. I don’t think the format of last nights game could really show off anyone’s true speed because of the way the games setup but what I did like was that in such a fast paced game Kelly was still able to stick a lot of Tackles and seemed to find space at either end of the ground. Fogarty seemed to show more natural skill but that’s to be expected as he has been highly sought after and we were lucky to get him as our first pick. Both boys should have a run in the JLT and be better for the experience. On assessment I would give a big tick to both of them and Miers showed enough goal awareness to suggest he could become a really smart small forward. Very happy with the recruiting. Also Thurlow looks to be back to his late 2016 form after having a full pre season. Between him and Duncan you couldn’t ask for better kicking efficiency. I think Thurlow could be in line for a breakout year as a back man. Stewart’s stocks will continue to rise as he continued to look more settled into his role and Blonde haired Blitz looks as though he’s ready for a big year. I’d love to see him lock down CHB and be used as a tall back that can transition run up the ground when needed. With Henderson still sidelined we are in desperate need of another tall defender. What’s everyone else’s thoughts on this subject?

Thought he looked good.

On his pace, people obviously had the wrong preconceived idea about that. Watch his highlights package.

A highlights package is misleading at the best of times tbh.

Pacey inside mids at AFL level would be a very short list indeed, it's certainly not their main attribute.

As far as replacing Motlop goes I don't think we can. He had a rare blend of talent and game sense that will be sorely missed at times.

The brief amount I saw looked encouraging, but I'll wait for actual football to start. Be good to get a proper look at him.
Don't get me wrong, I thought he had some good moments as well, but an thread praising him of what is the equivalent to a quarter of footy is probably jumping the gun a bit...

I am looking forward to seeing how he and the others go in an actual game of footy though

It’s harder to gauge someone’s pace in a format like AFLX. It’s effectively like running a 10min effort, with top speeds down due to the increased running demand.

Tim Kelly may have a little work to do on his aerobic capacity but there is no doubt that he is a quick, explosive player.

Thurlow looked back to his best to me.

Kelly needs to do more in the JLT . A good baptism last night , but to play round 1 he will have to finish his work better (=make use of the opportunities he wins).
