Time for SOS

From memory SOS signed a 2 year deal with St Kilda as a specialist defensive coach when his mate Ross Lyon got the coaching gig 2 years ago. He's said that he'll always be a Carlton man but having spent almost all his life at the club he needed some time away before coming back.

Premiership teams are usually built on a good defense and Gavin C is doing a fantastic job as our defensive coach and building a formiddable unit. The Geelong backline is made up of very versatile tall and medium defenders who can all play on talls or smalls, and all provide very good run out of defense when they get the ball in space.

Between Waite, Thornton, Jamison, Bower, Austin, Bannister & Anderson we definitely have the cattle to build a similar defensive unit (Jamo & Austin are sure that by next season Austin will handle the gorilla full forwards :thumbsu:) and throw in Carazzo, Armfield & Browne to handle the small forwards and our defense is ready for the tilt at #17.

With Ratts, Braddles and Deisel there assisting with the development of our mids, and Sticks always around the place to help in any way possible, SOS is the only missing ingredient, not in place of Gavin, but in addition to, possibly in a part time role working one on one with the above players to help them fine tune their skills.

The timing is perfect, as St Kilda's premiership window is effectively closing and ours is very much opening, there's an opportunity for SOS to yet again, play a valuable role in a Carlton premiership, how could he resist? ;)

There are some players who were absoulte hacks, but are unbelievable coaches, and then there are unbelieveable players that have no coaching skills whatsoever and SOS is one of them. Im happy with Gav ATM TBH and we wouldn't have Jamison without him...

Trust me im speaking from experience

News to me but I wouldn't have any idea.

Im happy with Gav ATM

Me too, which is why I made it clear that he stays.

TBH and we wouldn't have Jamison without him...

Which I always thank him for!

You don't think there might be a concern having a "Carlton old boys club" there? Ratten, Williams, Bradley and Kernahan. Then you add SOS to that mix.

On the contrary, people talk about 'culture of success' and how it has been lacking from Royal Parade for so long now. I can't think of any better way to re-inject it then by having stars from the last dominant Carlton side around the place working with and developing our young talented list.

Let's not forget that it was only 19 games ago that we had 'forgotten how to win a game'.

But the "Old Boys" thing is a real risk too.

Looking after the boys and the arrogance of it all under Elliot and co got us into the worst shape we've been in for 100 years.

There are times when we need to acknowledge that Carlton is not the only entity that knows football, and that sometimes the best ingredients for success at Carlton may come from another club and culture.

I was thinking about this the other day.

Now is the perfect time for Sos.
* We're on our way up
* We have young defenders for him to work with in the ilk of Bower, Jamison, and Austin

I get the feeling if he doesn't now, then he never will.

Agree with you, but there isn't much better than Sos.

Coaching wise there is sooooooo much better than SOS...

Ill give you a example

Archer on the football field... anyone would love to have

Archer as a special comments personality on T.V i.e Footy Classified... out of his depths...

SOS is a horrible coach... leave it at that

Don't mean to be rude here Smurf, but how would you know if he's a good coach or not?

He'd honestly believe he'd be a massive help to our young and up and coming backman.

Um, where was he when the shit was burying the fan the last little bit? Fcuk him.
Harsh but definitely a good point thy. Love SOS but he had it very good in his playing days and didn't seem as willing to help out when we desparately needed him. Happy with Crosisca and with the cattle we have assembled for the back half, keep going in that direction i say:thumbsu:

Dont get me wrong i love SOS more than the next man/ woman, but ive got a sore spot in my stomach about how he lagged us in...

I'm with you Schmurf. I still love the guy but that still sticks in my head. I would definitely rather have him back though than somewhere else.
Plus I see him every TD game with the boys in their Carlton jumpers :thumbsu:

PS - love the quote on your sig :)

Didn't want to know us when we were stuck down the bottom and needed help. :thumbsd:

All is better at Carlton....don't need you now Silvagni. :D

That tune will change in a few years as his boys start approaching 18...

SOS is and always will be a Carlton playing legend. That can never be altered. :thumbsu:
