Um, where was he when the shit was burying the fan the last little bit? Fcuk him.

i totally agree. if he was interested, he should off stuck around (unless there was something funny going on that we all dont know off) 2 years ago, i was racking my brain out on why he didnt stay, now i dont really give a toss. my opinion.

Coaching wise there is sooooooo much better than SOS...

Ill give you a example

Archer on the football field... anyone would love to have

Archer as a special comments personality on T.V i.e Footy Classified... out of his depths...

SOS is a horrible coach... leave it at that

Where does this rubbish come from? Archer?! Even SOS is more eloquent than him! Are you saying he is a horrible coach simply because you still have a bad taste in your mouth? Silvagni is credited with transforming the Saints list into a defensive powerhouse, and many Saints supporters speak very highly of him. That tells me he can't be all that bad.

Or do you have anything conclusive to suggest he is a horrible coach?

No?

Thought so.

What we really need is the best people for the job. If SOS fits that description, then he is more than welcome... if not, then we can always get someone else. I wouldn't really consider him a head coach, but more as an assistant. Are there any better defence coaches going around? You'd be hard pressed to find one considering what he's done at St. Kilda.

And for the people who are bitching about him being in St. Kilda: get over it, please. Let the man choose what he wants to do after football in his life. I don't see what's wrong about him learning the trade at a different club, after all, don't forget Ratten did this as well.

He is the type of person who would only come back when things are good so stuff him.

Really? And you know him personally enough for you to say this?

Are people upset because he didn't put his hand up for a coaching role, because he was expected to as a club legend? Far as I'm concerned, he can coach whatever club he wants to... that is his right to choose, after all.

I would love us to make a play for Dean Laidley, he would be of great assistance to our coaching staff.
He would also help with Ratts' development as a coach because as we all seem to forget Ratts is still learning.

I always thought it was odd that Harvey came straight to us after finishing playing with the Saints...is it possible there is some sort of 'quid pro quo' going on where SOS can do his apprenticeship at StKilda and Harvey with us. This theory says that SOS comes to us next year and Harvey to StKilda when his contract expires (either this or next year?)

There's also the Ratten/Bailey connection from the Demons that is interesting.

I rekon this assistant coach / ex-player thing amongst the clubs has something to it....

...here endeth my conspiricy theories...

1 goal.

Darryl White - 0 goals
Wayne Carey - 1 goal
Gary Ablett Sr - 0 goals

And Sr reckons that it was because he was in the twilight of his career and SOS wouldnt have been able to touch him in his prime on the flank... which is about right because SOS would have been on the goal line with their full forward.

Geez Sr is a bit thick at times.

A few years back he was trying his hand in the real estate game and he came to my office on more than one occasion to try to negotiate deals.

This was when Carlton were in the midst of the darkness and I asked him quite bluntly why he wasn't there helping at a time when we needed all the help we could get.

He told me (as I mentioned in the OP) that he is a Carlton man through and through and will inevitably end up back there helping out in some capacity or another, but lived and breathed CFC from such a young age he felt that spending some time away once his playing career was over was a necessary move.

Well, he's had his time away, in real estate, football media, and now St Kilda. Time to come home I say -the sooner the better.

I had heard that from other sources that weren't terribly reliable and I thought that he was more distancing himself from the club and the scandal about the salary cap infringements.
