We do not have a list to win a flag, so we need to let a few go and continue the building for 2011.

We need a ruckman and more speed. We need to play our youngsters rather than the tried and tired.

To go: Wakelin, Bryant, Buckely,Ben Davies, Chris Egan word is he is on his last chance for behavious reasons, Sam illies, Licuria has been great but now speed of the game has got him, Brodie holland, injuries may have got to him.

Medhurst to slow one dimensional, Guy Richards too many chances, Ryan Lonie, we may lose Leon Davis rumour he is going back to WA,

this will provide a chance to keep good rookies and possibly trade for a young ruckman.

I dont know who will be delisted but there could and should be around 8-10 changes to the list for next year.

We need to have a massive cleanout. I believe it is time to delist:

Id agree with all those and you could probably add burns to the retiree's.

We have to keep one of the two ruckman we tried with one and we got nowhere or dont you remeber finishing second last Bryan has had 1 year without a full pre season Richards seven. Richards should be the one delisted.

The others i agree with

There's no way we could get rid of that many, even if that many deserved to go. There's no point chopping them if our only way of replacing them is a stack of late picks in a weakish draft.

IMO we should keep both Holland and Iles, and I'd be furious if we got rid of Egan. I also doubt we can afford to get rid of both Bryan and Richards at the same time. That leaves us with only one specialist ruck. I think we have to grit our teeth and keep one of them.

Look at rebuilding our ruck division as a two-year job. Get rid of one of Richards and Bryan this year. Trade for a ready-made and draft an U18 at the end of the year -- and add a project ruckman to our rookie list if possible. This time next year look at getting rid of the remaining spud and drafting another U18 or elevating the rookie ruckman if his form warrants it.

IMO that approach, or something like it, allows us to rebuild our ruck division without overexposing us should our rucks have a poor run with injury.

I realise that but he didnt show anything before he was injured and that what im basing my opinion on.

If we make 8 to 10 changes next year we won't be in a position to win a flag for another 3-4 years. This was what happened when Malthouse first took over and it took that long. Then though he inherited a train wreck from Tony Shaw who, with his star recruiters used a policy of "good guy, shit footballer" to recruit our team.

Each team has to make at least 3 changes to their list - Buckley is gone for sure. As for others let's at least be considered about, as we can always get rid of blokes but who is going to take their spot? We've never been good in trading, so it's not like we'll pick up anything good at the expense of our worst players - let's continue to use the draft to pick up talent (ruckmen!!!) and develop the kids while we still have Licca, Burnsey, Cheese, Rock etc. Thomas, Pendles Rusling and others (except Toovey, who's just no good) etc have only been in the system a short while - their best is way in front of them.

Being too ruthless on the list will hurt us more than help us at the moment.

Keep Illes,Holland, Bryan, Lonie, and Egan. Trade Johnson for a ready made ruckman as he is a player that has some value but we could cover if he is gone. Draft a young ruckman and try and get a few in and under onballers. A couple more players may have to go as MM might elevate a couple of rookies. As shown against Geelong and West Coast, Collingwood aren't that far off if they can get a few players fit and injury free. The difference between Geelong and the rest of the comp at the moment is that they have a full list of fit players. Start to take a few key personnel out and they would fall back into the pack, just like everyone else.

That sort of list turnover in a single year would be catastrophic to the club, IMHO.

Yes, we need to be aggressive in trading, and a number of old stagers will likely bow out, such as Buckley and Wakelin. But delisting Egan and Iles? That's nuts. What's more, we can't very well delist Bryan when he's got a year to go on his contract and as yet no-one to replace him.

We need to target a young inside mid in trade week, I strongly suggest Brent Prismall. We also need a ruckman who is able to make a contribution now, but still be around when Reid/Thomas/Dawes/Pendles/Anthony/Brown/Clarke/Wellingham/Cook/Stanley/Goldsack/Dick are hitting top gear. I noticed on the Drafts/Trading board that Brad Moran is considering leaving the Roos (? authenticity) and I'm a big advocate of grabbing John Meesen.

Then in the draft, we take hard mids with footskills (think Nathan Jones) and a project ruckman with mobility and skills.

That's it I reckon, although Geoff Walsh still appears keen on Toovey so he may stay.

Bryan (2 yr deal and need another ruckman even though we'll draft/trade for another also)
Holland (No.1 tagger who can kick. Bad injury)
Egan (Heaps of potential, give him some game time)
Iles (Don't need to punt him yet)
Lonie (Also injured. Has class which we need)

Marty Clarke would appear a certainty to be elevated, so that leaves 5 players to draft/trade for.

A short time ago the consensus here was that it would be a struggle to find the players to delist to make room the elevation of Marty Clarke and a minimum of 3 picks in the national draft. Now after a bad loss, some people want wholesale sackings including a player (Egan) who has spent most of the year injured, and players (Medders and Bryan) on 2 year contracts.
The one thing we shouldn't be doing is panicking after a bad loss. The good thing is that we're only one game away from a turnaround. Soon we get back Pendles and Clarke in the midfield. Johnson, Swan and Shaw(R) need to turn their season around. Melbourne won't be any walk in the park, but if everyone plays to their best we should have a good win and the knockers can shut up for another week.

Ben Johnson is the best trade bait we have, still worth plenty and we can easily cover his loss.

Problem is, I love the bloke and he is a lifelong fan wearing the #26. He aint going anywhere!

IMO {and im not being a sarcastic patronising w####r either!}
Think now would be the perfect time for you guys to change coach
with obvious talent on your list, love the look of thomas, pendlebury, the shaws, cloke, clarke etc!with a young list and with some obvious delistings/retirements coming up, a young coach coming thru with your list could be the serious breath of fresh air that could spark collingwood into a long period of success!!IMO you may not make as many hard decisions that need to be made with MICK still at the helm!Reason being there that certain players that need to be moved on{part of the furniture]may play a season or two to long due to loyalty, great clubman etc, etc,!With a new coach, no strings attatched policy could be the go!?just an opinion!
Youve got excellent foundations on which to build on!:thumbsu:

You think we can find a team that would trade something of value for Lonie? I wonder if Freo are in a woeful trading mood a Lonie for Pav deal sounds nice.;)

They run around yelling out "the sky is falling"
I believe the sky is falling, a rock hit my roof last night, that's a fair bit of evidance that supports that theory! ;)

You'd take a 3rd rounder. Especially if we take Jaxon Barham as a father-son
