who is most important to the team. and given a reasonable finish, who kicks the most goals. if we finish in the bottom of the top 8, i suggest that tippett kicks 60 and walker 30 or so. naturally these numbers are based on kurt not having to ruck anywhere else than the forward 30.

To answer the first part of your question I would say Tippet, for the moment at least. He is after all the more experienced player and his height for a forward is a unique advantage that Walker doesn't possess. If we do finish in the position you mentioned then I believe Tippet will have kicked around 60 and Walker 40. In the long run I hope we get to see this duo play many games together.

Tippett the most important at the moment given that we tend to go long and deep (and high) into the forward line on most occasions. He's the get out option and we rely on him pretty heavily.

Still, I reckon Walker could have a 50 goal season in 2011 (30 Crows, 20 Norwood).

Tippett's more important to our team but I can see a time where Tex kicks more goals for sure.

Walker's the cream to Tippett's cake.

Tippett, without a shadow of a doubt. As of 2010, Walker is little more than a highly talented but lazy showpony. Hopefully 2011 will be the year when he shows us what he's really capable of.

I really don't understand some of these types of comments. Walker may be overrated on this board based on potential compared with actual output and have some issues with the defensive aspects of his game, but the guy kicked 32 goals in 18 games as a 20 year old in his second season playing at AFL level (third season on the list) which puts his stats right up there with some of the best key forwards in the comp at similar stages in their careers. Crowning him the next Modra already is clearly over the top, but calling him a "talented but lazy showpony" is equally as extreme and unnecessary.

But to answer the question, Tippett is clearly more important to our structure at this stage. Having a guy that big who can take strong comtested marks in the square whilst being scragged by 3 defenders is a huge bonus and would have any defensive coach worried. Problem is we go to him with so many of our attacks we become predictable and unfortunately Tippett doesn't make the opposition pay on the scoreboard nearly enough. When we get a bit smarter in our forward delivery and start mixing it up between bombing long to Tippett and going to Walker/Porps on the lead with guys like knighta, Hendo and Jaensch around them as well (not to mention how good Walker can be around goals when the ball hits the deck), then we will have a truly dangerous forward line. All the elements are there, but because it is so multidimensional we really need a smart forward coach to come up with a forward line strategy to best utilise the talent we have.

I'll say Tippett will kick 55, and Walker will kick 35. As for importance, Tippett take is clearly more important. He is a big plus to have down there, and will definitely take the #1 defender every week. Also once (if) he starts getting the free kicks he deserves, he'll have a staggering output.

Tippett by a country mile and a heap, heap more. Tippett would be top few picked in any team while Walker is just hanging on. Will come under pressure in the next year or two from the likes of Davis, Talia, Young, McKernan, Luke Thompson etc and will be gone if he doesn't perform. Hope he blitzes the opposition and is capable of doing so but for me this is no certainty. Will be intersting to revisit this question in two years time.

how well walker play really depends on tippet as he nearly always draws a double or triple team. however tex has a lot of pure talent and if he manages to reach his potential he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Which is exactly why we need to be less Tippett conscious. Right now so many of our entries go to him that teams will constantly double/triple team him which leaves guys like Walker/Porps free. We start using players like Walker on the lead and all of a sudden teams have to focus on other dangerous targets apart from Tippett which in turn allows Tippett to go up in more one on one marking contest which he will win or bring to ground 90+% of the time.

The beuty of our forward duo is that Tippett is more dangerous while Walker is more talented and is hardly "just a decoy" for Tippett. He will be a quality forward in his own right if he continues to develop as he has. These 2 will be very formidable in the future.

09 Tippett not the 10 Tippett. Gets more on the lead will bring others into play. Big PS ahead to regain his mojo.

Walker will kick more than 30 goals next season and won't see any time at Norwood - Carl you stirrer. I he can make roaming 35 -75 m out from goal his own - has the tank, run hard work his player over. Has the kick on both legs to be really damaging feeding the ball into Tippett and Porps.

Tippett at th mo, but Tex could become the most damaging CHF in the game. Up to how much he wants it.

As I've said elsewhere, it's pretty fruitless to try to compare AFL players to non-AFL players as some kind of indication of their competency. If being a better footballer than Vader was all it took to be successful, drafting would be a very easy game indeed :D (No offence V-man ;))

However, I do think Vader's analysis of Walker was overly harsh. I certainly don't think he's a showpony. I also don't think he wants to come across as laconic, it's just his nature to appear that way. My understanding is that he's very driven to try to get the best out of himself, and does not want to accept merely being a decent player who gets by on natural talent. As of yet, he's been unable to put those extra parts of his game together, but his goal output has been very impressive for so young a player.

However, Tippett is so important to us structurally. Walker could become a great forward, but with Tippett you can build an entire forward line around him.

Because Walker has a bit of flair and prefers to attack rather than defend, he's a showpony? Get your hand off it Vader, you're usually a good judge of talent but you're off the mark this time. When he came back after getting dropped, he was chasing and tackling and really looked to be making more of an effort in his defensive game. He's just played in his second season and basically doubled his statistical output with only 4 more games. I'll be expecting a similar improvement next year.

They're both awesome. Good mates off the field as well, pair of guns. 50+ each.

Completely different players, yet frightening as a package, they both have their best in front of them and I'm expecting an average of 5-6 goals a game between them in 2011, if this happens, we'll be close to top 4.

Don't really like these versus threads, they are both potential topliners.

I can't fathom why we haven't signed Taylor up as yet, is it to do with his management and GWS?

I'm sure we'd love to but Walker and his management would be silly to sign this far out from his contract expiring. He's (hopefuly) due to have a breakout year which will no doubt push his expected salary up a reasonable amount plus with the spectre of GWS his manager will probably be able to do a Tippett and get a bit more than market value if he's in big demand. I hope he'll be signed by mid season but if we get the "waiting til end of season to decide" story, then I'll get worried.

Yeah, Walker is in the same boat as Tippett and Dangerfield before him. Extremely promising and highly-rated youngster with a new club sniffing away at them. They know their performances are set to improve, and they'll have a cash-rich suitor. The longer they hold off, the higher their contract value becomes, assuming their performances continue to improve.

Walker would be costing himself a bucketload of money signing on now if he turns out to have a strong 2011.
