Channel 9 reported tonight that Adelaide are hoping to settle the matter with the AFL before the scheduled November 30 hearing.
They said there is precedent for this, although it will be difficult to achieve given the number of charges and individuals involved.
My take on this is that Rowey's statements yesterday that the Crows can refute the charges relating to 3rd party payments with signed affidavits from the 3rd parties that they were independent of the Crows is more than likely correct.
Also it suggests that perhaps the tampering with the draft charge might not be as serious as first thought given that it was for a minimum pick not a fixed one.
Obviously Adelaide must feel that they are able to at least minimise if not dispel some of the charges to think that there is some chance of a negotiated penalty. If that did actually happen then there's no doubt that the penalty is likely to be less than if there was a hearing, because the AFL know that there would be no appeal against it.
