Love it! Caro's pic looks eerily genuine.

Righto...

Picking Up The Pieces
I hope we don't get whacked too hard. A fine and the first two picks on the 2013 draft will sting but won't cripple. Anything more than that though... well, we can worry about that later.

Just as vexing an issue though is how to make fans care for the club again. I'm not talking about the unconditional AFC lovers. I'm talking about the normal people with opinions, minimum standards, who expect a level of professionalism and actually want to see the club succeed.
....
Did you get depressed writing this, knowing that almost none of what you want to happen will actually happen?

And just a heads up folks, I am heading off on holidays on Sunday - not sure of my internet access. Just wanted you to know I am not disappearing because of anything that's happening. I am sure to be back to accept or hand out any medicine that is required.

As Peter J said, there's no reason for you to take any medicine, Jen. BigFooty is a place where we all are entitled to our opinion, and you are entitled to yours (even if as I've told you in the past you suffer from blind loyalty :D ).

Cheers and enjoy your holiday. :thumbsu:

so EQ says we're getting screwed, another dude says not as much as carlton.
You're already half way there and you haven't been found guilty yet.

Carlton lost picks in 2 drafts? If Adelaide get hit with a year tomorrow that will be 2 drafts missed. Only difference is that the picks Carlton lost were higher and Adelaide can still bring players in through free agency.

We better get the full story.

Chapman has promised to go on 5AA and 'answer every question'...or words to that effect.

We should ask AA to make it an hour session with Chapman taking questions from listeners (i.e. us). If Chapman won't do this he wasn't serious about clearing the air with supporters.

As they have been all along.
They've been more accurate than anything the club has said.

Now, I know the club has been told not to say anything - but the media is there to do just what they do. I reckon they've been all over this, as best they can.

Let's not forget Caro was aware of this bullshit months and months ago. That was far more informative than any of the crap we got from the club.

Ever the optimist Jen - got to admire that about you ;) And in all seriousness whislt there are always a few banging on in an OTT manner - the vast majority of posters have been fairly measure given this situation IMO. What medicine is it you would hand out? Be nicer to people who make 'innocent' mistakes that cost our club its reputation and impact our on-field ability?

It funny how for the past 3 weeks the media and some football personalities have been saying....throw the book at the AFC, make an example of the AFC, They should be banned from the next three drafts. Even Emma has stated this. Yet today there appeared to be some reality .....a fine and exempt from two drafts with 2012 being counted as one. What a dramatic change from the media.

Lets hope that Emma's latest article is on the money. WHo knows perhaps our 2013 ban maybe suspended. As for our management regardless of what penalties come our way if they are pleading guilty then they MUST go. We cant have this type of mentality running our club

I reckon I can almost guarantee that Tippett gets a 10 week suspension. Have a look at the fixture, the only time Adelaide plays Sydney is in round 11 at AAMI. The AFL won't pass up that opportunity.

I certainly hope that we can get any further draft sanctions suspended subject to future good behaviour. The fine will be a slog but won't cripple us.

On 2 Channels tonight Trigg was interviewed as he arrived from Adelaide, and when asked about was he worrying about his job, he said all his efforts had been to get the best result for the footy club. Kept saying that repeatedly.

Seeing he was part of all the skullduggery, so he should be. But still due credit goes to him - he could have concentrated on saving his own bacon.

As has been reported elsewhere looks like all parties have been well schooled on protection of the club and concentrate on the individuals, whose reward if possible is to continure, albeit with a significant break to dotheir normal jobs.

I can't wait to get kicked out of that game.

Losing pick 2 compared to pick 20 are oceans apart even though they are both first round draft picks.

Oceans apart I agree.

So far you guys have foreited ND picks #20 and 24.

We lost ND picks #1, 2, 4, 20, 31 and 34, and all selections (including pick #1) in the 2003 PSD and a cool million bucks.

Ian Collins limped out of that commission meeting in 2002 like he's been brutalised by a Horse.

Free agency also makes it a different ball game. Even if we're slugged for two drafts, we can still go out with our Tippett cash and sign free agents for 2013, having had 11 months to target them. I would have expected us to be trading out 2013 picks to fill list deficiencies anyway, much like Collingwood did in 2009 with Jolly, or Hawthorn this year with Lake.

It want just the picks that ****ed us as well. Elliott had been cooking the books in more ways than one.

Our investment into Princes park and the Legends stand was a total white elephant. Elliott had been including it as an 'asset' in our operating reports, when in reality the new stands had a value of zero and left us in debt to the value of 6 million dollars. They were demolished within a few years of Elliott getting the arse.

Add to that hidden $6 million deficit, we copped a $1 million fine, Pagans multi million dollar contract, Koutas multi million dollar contract (and knee injury), paying out Brittian, and we were facing an eight figure ten million + dollar unforecast operating loss for 2002. Sponsors (and members) were bailing left right and centre, and there was no TV rights deal to bail us out. Top of that the one ray of sunshine (Brendon Goddard) was ripped away from us the day before the draft.

You rip ten million bucks out of a club nowadays and see what happens. In 2002 it was a miracle we survived. I dont hesitate to say that if it was any other Victorian side bar perhaps Collingwood, we would have gone the way of University.

As a result of the above, the new administration were forced to cut all football department, player development and recruiting spending, and basically force all the players to take huge 'voluntary' pay cuts on contracts or there would be redundancies. We had no money to draft (shit we couldnt affort to properly develop or train or even pay the players we did have, and were prohibited from taking any more through the draft for two years). This in turn affected player morale and culture and performance, to the point there were player revolts against the administration, coaches and club, and we were forced to rely on recyled players from other clubs to compensate.

Koutas book details this period and it wasnt pretty. As a supporter, it was the worst ten years of my life. Made harder by the fact im 38 years old, and remembered a time when 'We are Carlton, **** the rest' meant something.

Frankly it was a miracle we survived at all.

There were politics involved as well. The AFL wanted to establish itself as Top Dog against a President in Elliott that had been a constant critic and thorn it ints side. Collins (our new CEO) was also CEO of Ettihad stadium (which became our new home ground). The AFL wanted Elliott out (and Princes park gone), and wanted to send a message to the other clubs (and executives) that the Draft, Salary cap and (importantly) the AFL itself were serious and running the show. Wacking Carlton to the extent they did certainly achieved the message they wanted.

Or so I thought untill recently.

For what its worth, Im not angry at the AFL for punishing us. We broke the rules and copped our whack.

Im angry at Elliott, and our administration that let it happen.

If the administrators responsible at your club are not sacked for this (even should you get let off lightly) you should get your asses down to the next members meeting and let the admin know exaclty what you think by voting them off the board personally.

For every rat you see, there are ten that you dont.

I agree.

The quote from one article was:

Earlier, Trigg dismissed questions over his future as he arrived in Melbourne for Friday's AFL Commission hearing over the Tippett affair.

Trigg wouldn't confirm reports the club was preparing to plead guilty to all charges, and when asked about his own prospects said, "It's all about the club."

"It's been a really really long six weeks for everybody, it's been demanding on the footy club, and we're looking forward to tomorrow to be able to start to put it behind us. That's all I could say."

It is after the fact, but at least that appears to be selfless approach we would expect from the guy who was on watch when all this crap went down.
