Skurt's massive ego won't like being sent to the PSD as then he won't get his choice of club or paycheck...
Wrong on both accounts. He'd almost certainly end up at GC, which is his 2nd preference (behind the $$$ being offered by Sydney). He's also able to specify his own salary when nominating for the draft - it won't be what Sydney are offering, but it will still be highly significant.

Bock - Received a once in a lifetime offer for a player such as himself toward the end of his career.
Davis - Read above, replace toward the end of his career, with several potentially career ending injuries before turning 21.
Gunston - Soft. Likely planning his exit from SA as soon as he got here.
Tippett - This is the strange one. Cried homesickness for years, and then goes to Sydney. I think football is just a tool which allows him to live the lifestyle he wants to. I believe he'll struggle badly to fit in with the Swans "culture".
Maric - Was going to be stuck behind Jacobs indefinitely, and left for more opportunities. Crows supporters very happy to see him doing so well. Was happy to stay in Adelaide if a trade couldn't be found. You'd also struggle to find anybody from Victoria who thought he was a good player before this year. Most Richmond supporters on here thought they paid massive overs for him, now it's steal of the century.

We have actually also signed several interstate players this year to 3 year deals (including Dangerfield, who was being offered huge money to head home to Vic). But people seem to be ignoring that. I think if there are any issues that players have, it's with the city, rather than the club. Not much we can do about that.
If Tippett's rumoured $1m each year over four seasons is correct then would this not be a once in a lifetime type offer?

Do agree that perhaps the issue is with the city rather than the club. Port though did not seem to lose too many players though their current status makes it difficult to compare the two clubs.

Youve said this a few times and i don't get it .......he wouldn't reduce his salary going into PSD in case he does get thru to Sydney BUT also to put off any other potential suitors

Reducing his salary just invites suitors ??

No.. but it could form the basis of a fair trade - if Sydney were able to find a real 1st round pick, inside the top 12. Grundy + 22 + top-12 pick = fair trade.
I agree that would have to be close to acceptable BUT i still maintain Grundy is not a need

And even after it all went down, tex still implored fans not to be too hard on him. I think there'll be a few players that are pissed at him. Not all. But a few.
Anything you hear in the media, on twitter etc is a microscopic scratch of the surface of what they think.. They're not going to come out slamming him..

I get the feeling they're more intent on letting the talking be done by the on field actions.. This should unite them stronger, and that's the way they're going to use it.. Patty and Tex's tweets seem to say that to me also..

You just contradicted yourself - "once in a lifetime offers" will tempt players regardless of the city they're in.

I guess it'd make it more likely that GC will take him with pick 2 in the PSD. If he puts the Sydney offer on his head in the PSD, he risks Freo/Carlton etc. being able to match the offer, all of which have a pick before Sydney.

I would be happy if we could get pick 22 as well as one of the following players Gary Rohan, Luke Parker or Nick Smith (who would cover Doughty's exit) all 3 would most likely make our final 22

Nathan Bock and Phil Davis are Kurt Tippett are they? Do you honestly think any of the non-expansion clubs would have offered Bock or Davis $700-$800k a year for four years?

That assumes GC still want him (having salary cap space)

Burgoyne, Krakeour, Pearce not to mention players they moved on and other clubs picked up.

again how is this any different to any othe big trade, sooner is always better than later however they always drag on to the last possible moment and block the entire weeks activity
We have 3 weeks to complete the Tippett trade - and any/all others as well. There's no reason why Adelaide or Sydney need to rush anything through.

Except every other trade will stall till completes ......Caddy, Crows players, Gumbleton ..

Why hasn't this troll been handed a red card as per the rules stated at the beginning of this thread? Do this on any other board and watch the card come instantly through the message system.
He did.. as soon as the mods got online. We can't be online 24/7, even with 3 of us.

A couple of points that I think are relevent.

1. Sydney approached Kurt during concussion period and then visited him a couple of days after a flag and offer him a huge deal. This suggests to me that they have a very good reason to want him so badly. They also would be aware that getting a deal done with us will be hard so again they must have thought about this before going to the trouble of signing him so I think they must have a high profile player leaving that they know is going to free up picks and cap space, I mean why would anyone that has a premiership team be doing all this otherwise.

You don't know that Tips manager didn't sell Sydney on the gentlemens agreement and told them "offer up 22 and a fringe and they'll have to take it, they promised".

I've said this a few times now that whilst an advocate of FA until they fix the anti-tampering rules that allows teams to discuss rival teams' contracted players it will continue to be amateur hour.

It is clear that Sydney was in the loop and probably had a better understanding of Tippett's state of mind through his manager than the Crows had. This wouldn't be a problem if the conversations started after Tippett's contract ended but it happened during the season whilst the Crows are trying to extend him and challenging for a flag to boot.

So the Crows who think they are competing against the go home factor get blind sided by the money option. Because Tippett's manager can discuss his client with other clubs whilst he is still contracted to the Crows he doesn't even have to be geniune with his representations (e.g. the second round clause). Can I see him sitting with the Swans saying $XXX will get it done, don't worry about the trade value etc, knowing he has solid offers from the Crows and probably GC in his pocket? Absolutely.

But what really riles me is that the Swans were doing this (and the Crows may have been in the dark) with both teams preparing and actually meeting during the finals campaign. If this was Vegas there'd be more than a few barrels of concrete being filled right now.

mate Bock, Davis and Tippett have all gone for $$$ and $$$ that have been inflated by the unfair concessions which come with expansion clubs or Syd extra salary cap relief

these were all commercial decisions

If Tippett's family are in NSW, we should let him go to GWS in the Psd - then he gets to see his family and we get AFL compensation for GWS signing an Uncontracted player.

Still don't believe that the Sydney squad will be happy.

Also Horse should know better - the last time I remember a team not trading away a premiership player, it was Port, and look where that got them!

How many players in the AFL are earning $1m+ per year? Not many!

What has been the compensation for $1m+ players - usually 2x 1st round picks or player equivalent.

Why would we accept 2 x 2nd round picks or player equivalent...

Would Sydney accept Sam Shaw/Andy Otten & pick #21 for Kennedy? I think not... & talls generally fetch a higher trade value than mids.

Because GWS can freely take him in the PSD like any other team (no restrictions to uncontracted players), it would seem that Adelaide wouldn't get compensation from GWS taking him in the PSD.

Rohan value before the injury was top 5, now it would be lucky to be top 20. The injury looked very similar to Brown, but at best he will be back playing good football in 2014. Barlow's was a lesser injury (clean break\no ankle damage) and it took him over 24 months to play good football.

The tigers go pick 9 and 16 for Ottens, port got something similar for Burgoyne and crows deserve at least something very similar if not more as I believe Tippett has more value.

3.2 million over 4 years suggests Sydney agrees.

i think your leaving some change on the table
