This is a pretty good trade IMO. Perhaps a few other things thrown in.

Collingwood lose Dawes, Wellingham, 39. Gain Reid, 45, 26
Melbourne lose 4, 45, 26. Gain Dawes, Wellingham, 39, 61
Adelaide lose Yippett, 59. Gain 4, 42
Sydney lose Reid, 42, 61. Gain Yippett, 59

If Melbourne did that, they should be kicked out of the comp.

I love reading all the suggestions for all kinds of sexy trades....names like Roughead, GHS, Varcoe....pick 4 or 6.

But i have to keep reminding myself this is AFC. After all the huff and puff, we will get pick 22 and maybe a pick 15-20 if lucky. Then there will be the inevitable press release that whilst this may seem inadequate, the deal was holding up other deals we were working on and it was felt this was the best outcome possible in a difficult situation.

Unfortunately I have followed this club for too long. There will be no line in the sand, nor message to Kurt. There will be no PSD. Kurt knows it, blucher knows it and sydney know it.
You are right but I think after our performance last year in the trade week, I have a new found confidence in David Noble's ability to get the best out of a bad situation. Just remember last year we didn't have a heck of a lot of trade currency yet we walked away with Crouch, Jenkins, Brown and Lynch. Two of those boys are in our best 22 at the moment (yes I am counting Crouch as Sando said he is unlikely to be playing SANFL again)

We also gave up compo pick, pick 10, Gunston and Maric

Let's just see how this whole situation plays out. Watch Brisbane to hold off on signing Brent Moloney until next week. Rumor of senior swans meeting board yesterday appear to have legs.
ive only heard bits and pieces about this, what is the crux of the rumour?
Sorry I quoted wrong post above

Where are you hearing this?
I'm not about to do an AFGM, but all i've heard is that the rumours about senior swans being upset that while they have taken less pay to have success, the club was willing to bring an outsider in on big money and the threat of trading a teammate to facilitate the trade. I'm lead to believe these players have expressed these reservations to the club. Also Brisbane don't appear to have any direct competition from rival clubs for Moloney at present and the FA period still has two weeks to run.

When Brisbane sign a senior player you can rule out a move for Kurt.

Where is this Roughead talk coming from? The only place I've seen it mentioned is on this board.
  • His name has been mentioned as a potential trade to Adelaide in previous years.
  • With Kennedy still uncontracted, he appears likely to be used (by Sydney) as a major component in engineering the Tippett trade.
  • If Kennedy were to return to Melbourne, then Hawthorn would appear his most logical suitor.
  • Roughead would go a long way towards filling the gap created by Tippett's departure.
  • Kennedy<-->Roughead<-->Tippett appears to be a relatively even trade all-round, with little (if any) need for sweeteners.
That's the logic. As far as I know, no such flow of logic has extended beyond the Adelaide Board.... yet. I've been pushing it fairly hard, but I'm only proposing it as an option. I'm definitely not declaring it to be a "done deal" or even one that is likely to be contemplated by those in a position to turn these ideas into reality.

I suggested Roughead could be a possible target with our $800k war chest because of our past attempt, his suitability for all relevant factors, and some really weak rumours about his relationship with Clarkson and poor end of season form, about 3 days ago. Today, it's being reported by all the usual uninformed sources.

Make of that what you will.

Really? Roughead? The guy can't kick straight to save himself, if we wanted someone like that we would make a play for Tip$.

Are there some nervous pensioners at the swans?

Tippett <--> Roughead is a straight swap, no need for Adelaide to be sweetening the pot. Otherwise, it's pretty much what I proposed about 10 pages ago (with Kennedy named as the Sydney player).
Kennedy is worth more than both - you can't kick goals and take marks in your forward fifty unless someone has won the ball in the middle and Kennedy is in the two two or three in the comp. neither Tippett nor Roughhead are even close to being what he is worth.

We also gave up compo pick, pick 10, Gunston and Maric
Yeah I am aware of that, but we turned that into Brad Crouch ho will be better than any of those. Maric we lost because he wanted more opportunity but we got Jenkins who is a better for for the team.

Compo pick is end of first round which is practically a 2nd round pick. The biggest loss for me last year was Gunston who is a good player and will be a star. I loved big Ivan but he was never going to get games with Jacobs on the list and we might have gotten slight unders on the trade but Crouch is such a big win for us that it off-sets those slight losses.

In 3 years time you will be saying how well we did out of the trade week. Crouch and Jenkins are best 22 at the moment and its reasonable to except that Kerridge and Brown will end up being solid players. The end result is about quality and not quantity. Crouch will be a superstar and worth every bit of it.

Hard to argue that Kennedy is worth more than both, given that your mob is prepared to pay him $1m per year (or thereabouts), making him your highest paid player.. probably earning around double what Kennedy takes home.

KPP forwards who happen to be the 2nd best contested mark in the league - and a more than competent ruckman - don't grow on trees. Your club has made a massive play for him, so they're obviously expecting to give up something significant for him. The only question is what? Kennedy fits the bill and is not currently contracted for 2013.

My question would be, does roughed take jerkas spot, or do we fit them both in somehow?! :D

You keep dreaming son! According to your logic here midfielders are most valued commodities in the game. Its so far removed from the truth its not funny. Quality talls are ALWAYS going to be a more wanted commodity. Key forwards are the highest valued players in the game because the good ones are very hard to find and attract a premium price. You only need to look at your club offering Tippett $1 million per season over 4 years. Other than Ablett, there would not be a midfielder in the competition that they would offer that type of money to. None!

Haha good one man! KPFs > mids

I'm led to believe they are an incredibly tight knit group and are concerned about the trade having a destabilising effect on the younger members of the team and the possible loss of a team mate. I think you'll find Jude Bolton has the option of continuing on for one more season.
