I seem to recall that a newly drafted player can't be traded after just 1 year? Is this correct? IIRC Mitchel was only drafted last year.

On Sydney web page he is listed for 2011 and 2012.

Geez you gotta wonder about sydney. If they rip the guts out of their midfield succession plan now will likely be at least 3 years before they get back to where they are now. Not to mention internal damage with playing group and supporters in being seen to be moving on son of club legend and another popular kid.

All this for a mercenary of questionable character. Hope hes worth it because if he dosent deliver the pressure he got here will be minor by comparison.

Good question, I think we need some extra depth in that area in case of injuries. Faith has mentioned Pears so perhaps they believe we need a more immediate solution.

Provided the Pears medical checks out I don't mind him, although he's not the big unit that I'd hope for.

I agree we did well with the ontrading of some of the Hawthorn picks but the picks the Hawks gave us were nowhere near enough for Gunston. Yes i have heard all the spin about getting it done so we could move on with other trades. Fact stands that we got unders from the Hawks - they were not involved with the remaining trades.

If you mean Christian Howard, I remember asking Emma Quayle about him last year. She rang the Dogs and they said he'd signed an extension, I just can't remember if it was one or two years.

No idea about GHS. Unless he signed an extension, it should be up this year.

Noble is on 5AA now, must say I'm not overly confident of this ending well. Asked about Mitchell, wont go into it at all but wont use the threat of redrafting Kurt to get a better deal. Stupid attitude to take and Im glad Studley gave him a hard time about it.

Also said delisting is pretty much done which means we'll keep last years crop of draftees.

Callinan hasnt recieved an upgrade, sounds like they want to and intend to but i think they want to keep a few "degrees of freedom" open on the list for a while yet so cant

Said tippett deal is likely to take a while, no hurry.

A lot of clubs are waiting to find out the compensation picks which get determined on the 18th, so things are likely to hold up until then

Having recently bought a place, it occurred to me that if a club really wanted to pay a player more but do it off the books, all they have to do really is pay for most of their living expenses etc

Apparently a common trick that was done in the 90s in Victoria was that Player A would buy a house and the sponsor would then pay way overs for the house, and bingo there is an extra $100k, all legal too!!!!!

Obviously a lot easier to do that in Melbourne and Sydney and Brisbane than here.

Not when Rivergum are a major sponsor of the club and they build a $400,000 home for the player and they only invoice him for $235,000 and then you have another $95,000 worth of add ons.

O yer a couple of others:
Sounded like they are very wary of not getting players that will restrict opportunities of younger players, i think they were a bit embarrased (not sure if that's the best term but it will have to do) that some people who they brought in were not given the games they were "indicated" they would get (must be talking about lynch surely, also johnstone, less so jenkins) and they dont want to repeat this again, though they have to balance it up with keeping the list at a reasonable level of experience. AFGM will be glad to know we should be going full on with the kids next year.


Playing group really bonded by tippett leaving, by the sounds everyone that's still there really really wants to be there. Really really want to achieve something. Can only be good!

You don't have to draft him, just don't make it known that you wont draft him. It has to be to our advantage for Sydney to not be sure what we would do if it got to that stage. I can't see that it's going to get to that, but you should keep some cards close to your chest.

Grundy = good
Jesse White = bad
Parker = medium
Mitchell = good
Reid = good
Pyke = medium
Rohan = medium
Hannebery = good
Dennis Lane = bad

The rating is not the rating of the player, its a rating of meeting crows needs, parker is a good player but we dont need that type so badly

so the sort of things we want are

a good player above plus 6-25 draft pick

a medium player plus an early and mid first round draft pick

Great to hear from Noble. The key quotes I took out of the article I read were:

“It would be really awkward and difficult for us to go down one path where we’re trying to retain and grow our list (and then trade a player out).”

“Patrick Dangerfield, Rory Sloane, Ricky Henderson, David Mackay, Luke Thompson and all the other guys we’ve re-contracted this year, know that we’re on the cusp of something special,” Noble said.

“The group that’s staying want to stay and create something special. In Kurt’s case, we’ve got a person who wasn’t able to make a decision in the period of time we allocated - now he’s made his choice and we all accept that.

“This has bonded our players even closer in my opinion. I’ve had a lot of conversation with our players through the leadership group and the coach (to that effect).

“The manner in which Kurt has gone about his business is really disappointing. I think all our players have indicated that and, unfortunately, that’s not the person I’ve worked with for a long period of time.

“We’ve got a history of being able to work with a player’s choice of where they’d like to go. In this particular case, it’s caught quite a few people by surprise in the manner in which it’s unfolded.

“I can tell you we won’t be drafting Kurt back.”

Yeah, lets redraft Kurt guys, what a great idea that would be. Noble is spot on. The club obviously isn't happy with him and don't want it affecting our team going forwards, pretty logical is you ask me.

Seems like the FA compensation is the thing massively delaying things. Can the AFL get anything right? Seriously!
