stiff not a veteran this year?

I believe he is - and his salary will be included in the veterans payments (its a reduced amount taken into the TPP i think) , but as for the list only 2 can be placed outside the main list.
Feel free to coorect me Vader if i'm off the mark.
But we cant put Tippett on the Vet list to keep him... (just to relate it to the topic:))

Doh, I typed too slow - Vaders already there.. your force was too strong!!!!!!

FAITH - can you just start up your own thread?
The Faithful Trade Rumours or something.
I'd like the last half n hour back .. I want to hear rumours and trade talk, not read (or skim) through pages of arguing. Of course we all have diff opinions - respect that and move on.
I 2nd this notion!
I'm on board

I know we like to be inclusive, but do we really need Sydney posters adding to this thread? I'd struggle to think of one decent post from a Sydney supporter, they talk shit and the next 10 posts are spent arguing about it. Can we just ban them and make this an Adelaide only thread please?

Frankly, 99% of this thread has been garbage, made all the more intolerable by my having to sift through several times a day to hand out cards left and right.

Most Sydney supporters have been no worse than most Adelaide supporters. Some have been, and we've dealt with those.

Here's the issue - literally nothing has happened since Sydney was nominated as the preferred club. Sydney and the Crows met up, agreed that Sydney does not have anything they are willing to trade that the Crows will accept. So they agreed to go their separate ways and figure out alternative approaches to getting this deal done. That's it. That's the entire story, but we're 200+ pages into a thread that has seen the same crap be posted over, and over, and over again. It's annoying and it's boring.

There is nothing worth talking about in this thread at the moment, but it's obviously a hot topic so people want to talk about it. So we get the ungodly amount of trade proposals we've had here. Trade proposals from Sydney supporters have been invariably unbalanced in their favour. Trade proposals from Crows supporters have been invariably unbalanced in our favour. Except for that one guy who proposed we swap Tippett for Giles, not sure what was up there.

All I ask is that people keep the discussion respectful. Sydney supporters are welcome, discussion is welcome, trade proposals are welcome, but keep it respectful.

dont buckle crow boys ! screw those dam swans, tippett wasted all our times us , suns and you boys.

send him to the draft if you dont get a good deal ! sad thing was you boys would have got a much better deal from the lions or suns than those swans

good luck

It's a very reasonable comparison to Mitchell. A player we got for far less than his true value, and who has had enough time to demonstrate his enormous potential but not enough time to show it at AFL level.

For two clubs that have consistently been without top draft picks, it's as close a comparison as I could come up with.

cmndstab, why do you always talk sense? There is always the odd person on bigfooty with an IQ higher than 100.

I agree with most of that, and hence the request for a seperate thread where it's just rumours and not a thread discussing hypothetical trades. Whilst nothing has actually happened, Faith, who I have faith in, has at least provided some info on what we are trying to achieve and who has already been rules out as trade bait.

The difference being that Armstrong was at best a low value commodity, as was Johnston - the player you gave up in that trade. With little of value being exchanged by either side, there was little cause for angst and dispute.

Tippett was the highest paid player on Adelaide's list and will be the highest paid player on Sydney's list once the trade is completed. His importance lies not only in the goals he kicks but the ability to structure an entire forward line around him due to his height, strength and contested marking ability. To suggest that his value is equivalent to a fringe player, or even 2 fringe players, plus pick #22 is, quite frankly, insulting.

Most Sydney fans have no idea what they're getting or how important he will be to their side going forward. They see a player who performed badly in the final against them (as a result of repeated concussions suffered during the season) and rate him accordingly. Thus there is a massive disconnect between what Adelaide fans know Tippett's value to be and what ill-informed Sydney fans think it should be. This is why there is so much more angst this year when compared to the Armstrong/Johnston trade last year.
I agree with most of that.

The problem that I have is that I believe Sydney and Adelaide have met for about 30 minutes on this so far. And not at all today, so we are all guessing what sydney is trying to come up with and until we know we should all take a deep breath.

In the same way that you are worried about your compensation for Tippett swans fans are worried about Mitchell. He is the only player of top ten value that we have had at our club for years.

So the concerns aren't all one sided.

I used the Armstrong case to show that we have a history of doing the right thing which seems to have been lost in the discussion here.

The other thing that i tried to point out is that the swans supporters are not reflective of how our club dose deals. As is the same with your club.

All the crow posters want a massive win in the deal for the crows, swans fans want to get him for nothing. Neither will happen.

One other point. Tippett would be the 3rd highest paid player at the swans. Behind both Goodes and o'keefe. And that is not because of any backending

Just read an article, dont know who wrote it, but they mentioned and described the now well known Bloods brotherhood stuff. Sounded pretty much like the ethos of every club Ive ever been involved with through my local footy career and I would think just about any decent footy club really. Play for each other, sacrifice self for the team, all for one - one for all, ect. It made think, we the AFC, have always had that, particularly when it comes to player payments. We never over valued one player. Until Kurt Tippet needed to be paid double everyone else's pay. Thank god he's gone. We can get back to being the AFC of old and Sydney can pay Kurts ego his squillon.

If there was a bunch of good rumourmongering going on I'd look at such a thread, but at the moment, FAITH is the only one providing anything that I would term reliable, or even plausible. You can simply look at his post history each day if you want to see what he's said.

If more information starts to come out, we may look at starting a new thread for it.

This is a hypothetical and Vader your probably best for this.
I'm not interested in the likelihood or anything, would just like to know.

Say Tippo negotiations with Sydney breakdown, Brissy jump in quickly and say we'd really like him we'll give you pick 8 but we cant fit him under the salary cap now that Moloney's with us.
AFC - well we've got $800k spare, how about you pay him 75%, we pay 25% of the contract.
Would the AFL allow this ?

Again just want to know the rule, not interested in "AFC would never do that" blah blah

Frankly, all this stuff about the "Bloods Culture" seems a mile overstated to me. I don't really think there is any such thing as the "Bloods Culture" - or if there is, it's a name for something pretty much every club in the league already has.

Sydney have not been as successful as they are because of some kind of mystical culture. They've been as successful as they are because they've been well managed, well coached, and their players have gotten the most out of themselves.

I don't think it would be the first time a club has paid part of the salary for a player it wants to get rid of.

I don't think it would be the first time a club has paid part of the salary for a player it wants to get rid of.

It has happened in the past, but I believe only for players who had a contract still in play. No idea if a new contract could be drawn up in which the Crows agree to pay a portion of the salary for one of Brisbane's players.

Each night I come home and after dinner and playing with my daughter and putting her off to bed, I come and read this thread. I sometimes think, wouldn't it just be easier to have BigFooty on my computer at work and just read it as it is happening so I don't have to wade through 20+ pages at night.

Then I think of all the conference calls I am on at the moment as we implement the strategies for the new banking year ( October- September for banks) and what it would be like if half way through, I was asked for my opinion on something and I said " does anyone else think we might snare a top 5 pick for Tippett?".

Of course if Chapman hadn't left, I get the feeling I'd at least get one response

My understanding too

Guess we know which bank now !

Can be done. Carlton were paying a part of Fevs salary when he first went to the lions.

The one problem is Tippett has to agree to it. Not likely

I'm struggling to think of many from Adelaide supporters (other than FAITH) that have either. Maybe we should ban everyone except FAITH from posting in this thread?

Or we could just close the thread until we actually know something!

No wonder Rory admires you so much, you are so intelligent. Or have I got that mixed up?

If people are just interested in what FAITH posts (and I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to ignore everything else in this thread :p) you can just go to this profile and look at his most recent posts. He's only posted about Tippett recently so it's not like you have to sift through other junk.

I'm getting this sneaky suspicion that you know a thing or two about stalking.:p
