Regardless, all qualifications are irrelevant if they don't knows how to negotiate and/or they lack the intestinal fortitude to do what is necessary - this is my biggest concern with the AFC's position on this trade.

The discussion was about David Noble's qualifications vs those of a professional negotiator, not David Noble's qualifications vs those of a random forum member. The whole "well he's more qualified than YOU" argument is a bit childish.

It was a stupid question that received an easily researched answer and a flippant comment. Get over it.

a simple question

did we go into this Tippet trade in a position of strength or a position of weakness (or an even keel)

Strength! We have something they want, and we have the capacity to make it very difficult for them to get it.

really, we went into trade week with a player who would only talk to 1 party and that party has nothing to offer us.

I'm trying to find the strength here.

Noble seems to have very similar qualifications & history to Neil Balme.

Speculation based only on the willingness of someone else to take him in the PSD. If not, and I tend to think they won't...then we have no chips at all. The ability of a player to veto a trade has completely crippled any bargaining position we may have had since Tippett will just veto anyone other than Sydney.

They DO have something to offer us, we haven't done enough to make them offer it.

Weak.. but nowhere near as weak as the latest media speculation would make us appear to be.

don't get me wrong, I'm shattered that we are going to get pick 22 + white for Tippet.

but what else can we do outside pray that GWS pick him up in the draft?

Declare negotiations with Sydney to be closed, as they couldn't come up with anything even remotely close to acceptable.

Open negotiations with another club - probably Brisbane, Carlton or GWS. Tell Tippett to widen his horizons, because there is now no way for him to get to Sydney. Ask him which of those 3 he prefers and start dealing with a club that actually wants to trade fairly.

and when he says get stuffed?

We started with absolute strength purely as a result of Sydney being chosen. This meant we were ahead of them in the draft, so ultimately if we had chosen to do so we could have redrafted him. That option was not available if he had chosen gcs or lions.

Just because we would not have done does not make it less of bargaining chip.

We chose to cash that in early when we went public saying it would not happen, preferring to rely on sydney.

It's been an appaling performance from the club.

I really don't see White adding anything, Jenkins and Johnston would be ahead of him as a forward and Smack has alot more potential in the ruck. If this goes ahead all we're going to get is a list clogger and pick 22.

Yep and then what happens when he turns around and says no? I will take my chances in the PSD knowing full well Sydney are the only ones who can pick him up?

I doubt he would have. He would face draft uncertainty. If he did that and by some miracle he slipped to swans...then he wins . But we would have stared him down at each turn with the potential of turning this around. All for the cost of 22 and white
