So where a contracted player gets to the end of the year and retires because of injury/heart isn't in it, their salary for however many years still contracted is counted towards the TPP? Perverse outcome.
That's what happened with Daniel Bradshaw and Michael Voss.

It's why most veteran players are on 1-year contracts. Adelaide's policy is that all players aged 30+ go on 12-month contracts. They're fairly generous with these contracts though, to make up for the lack of certainty that goes with a longer contract.

If you're stupid enough to sign a player to a long-term contract, only to have them retire - then that's your fault for poor list management. There's nothing perverse about it.

EXCEPT, if you terminate his contract and delist him, then he is NO LONGER CONTRACTED. So there has to be an AFL rule stating that the totality of the contract is used for the purposes of the calculation of the TPP, even if a contract is terminated.

I was asking whether there is a rule. Apparently there is.

Pull your head in.
If a player retires then the club will usually negotiate exit terms with the player. Presumably this means that the player will receive less than what they were originally contracted for - given that they will no longer be providing the services for which they were contracted.

I know that payments made to a player post-retirement are included under the salary cap. Whether it's the renegotiated payments, or the originally contracted payments, I'm not entirely sure (and can't be bothered looking up).

All this Hitler talk got me wondering: What if Hitler was actually a time-traveller...?

In his alternate future the world has been run by a faceless sect calling themselves "יולדת" for countless generations. יולדת detonated Tesla bombs and wiped out entire races of people when the world was still young and so full of hope... For the "glory" of God. For centuries humanity had scrambled franticly for survival in whatever foothold they could find; whatever hole they could shelter in while the world around them burned; slumping listlessly into decay. The Earth had teetered on the edge of collapse for as long as the elders can remember.

On the banks of the Danube in the shadows of the old world we find a small pocket of humanity. They live in a world devoid of working machinery, electricity and hope. What technology their species once held so proudly lies useless around them. Mocking them. Their leader is called Adolf.

The great plague of the 4th Year of The Rat - the same that killed his Father - had been sighted in a small settlement just North of The Hut months ago. Adolf, of The People of the Hut, did what must be done. He had razed the tiny village to the ground. Leaving nothing living that could possibly harbour the Wet Cough. Babes were left suckling at the decaying teats of their mothers. He had done what must be done.

What followed was a month of cold days and cold nights. With each night he had prayed for respite and with each morning his prayers went unanswered.

Some two weeks ago Adolf had stood wearily before his starving flock. He had heard their coughs the previous night. He had drawn his blade. He had done what must be done.

Today he had awoken to a morning that shone with as much gloom and despair as he was accustomed. He had looked over to the cot his daughter had slept in just one week ago and the small bed of his son. He had stepped wearily out into the cold morning air and looked at the paltry sum of remaining followers that still remained. "Four," he rumbled. Four more had failed to rise for the morning and he would see that they would never rise again. Sickness had made them weak. Sickness that they would spread.

He did what must be done.

As he stood peering into the makeshift grave that housed full one-third of his people, he knew that it would soon be over. Little hope remained. Still he did what he must and burned the body of his wife along with the three others he had pulled from their beds. Until the very end, no matter what hardship he faced he would strive to preserve the lives of those around him and keep humanity's flame alive. He would kill 6 million innocents if it meant that life could continue. If it meant that יולדת had not won.

He would do what must be done.

And it was for that reason that he was chosen. For that reason he was sent back as far as the machine would take him. To a time so long ago that יולדת could not possibly have started their holocaust. Armed only with the name "יולדת" and an iron will he would wander the Old World for a full year, asking after "יולדת" wherever he would go until a young boy with curly black hair said he knew whereיולדת was and he would take Adolf to her. Through the streets they went until they came upon the boys house and inside they found his mother.

"This is my יולדת!" Exclaimed the boy. "This is my mum!"

"So it is from these people that evil comes" Adolf thought to himself. "These people are the 'Mothers' that massacred mine."

He sighed deeply and closed the door. "I am Adolf of the Huts, Adolf Hitler. You may call me... Führer."

He would do what must be done.

Hope for some news tomorrow...same thing I said to myself for the last 3 ************* weeks.

Edit... I was hoping for 14000, but 9 other posters beat me to it...dammit!!! Have to try for the 15K

There is indeed such a rule. Sydney and Brisbane were still paying Bradshaw and Fevola respectively this year, and it was included in their caps.
And Voss spent an entire year on Brisbane's list after announcing his retirement, for salary cap purposes alone.

+ Bradshaw + ~600k in veterans payments. 300 if you take into account the current veterans rules.
Bradshaw would not have been eligible for veteran list status at Sydney, having spent the majority of his career at Brisbane. He only spent what? 2 or 3 years on Sydney's list. You have to be with a club for 10 years before qualifying for veteran status.

If we have to wait six months before we start getting positive signs like we did in that thread I'll have shot myself long before we do.

I have a feelin' this thread will get locked as soon as the decision is made and Tippett is either signed to another club or heading to the PSD

The whole Tom Hickey deal for DP13 still baffles me !
Are Gold Coast positioning themselves for a last ditch attempt to trade ? Or positioning themselves in the draft before Sydney ?

Then we can add more posts to a new thread either bagging the club, praising the club and definitely bagging the crap out of w***er boy no matter the outcome

Look, I should probably clarify my position here. I agree that people should be up in arms over the possibility of us trading Tippett for White + 23. It's a terrible trade, and we should be signalling to the club that we think it's a terrible tade. And the fact that we (Crows fans collectively, not just the Bigfooty "we") have done exactly that has likely had some impact.

But I don't think that article means much at all. If it required CEO to CEO talks then it was never going to go through until the CEO got back, which means there wouldn't have been any point in stamping it out early. It certainly doesn't mean we were going to pull the trigger until the CEO prevented it. Unless you're implying the club wasn't aware that they needed to go through the CEO first and he only just managed to stop it in the nick of time.

We tabled the deal, as undesirable as it was, and then presented it to our CEO and left the next stage of the process up to him. He did his job and said, let's hold off on this one for a while.

What I object to is people talking about how our staff have done a poor job, before the job has been completed, and before we actually have the details of the job itself. The only actual facts that are in the public domain to date are that we haven't disregarded any options. That's it. Once some facts come out, if we've done a terrible trade, then by all means we should let those responsible have it with both barrels. And in the mean time, if you object to a mooted trade, or indeed if you dislike the PR process the club has gone through in terms of keeping their supporters in the dark, then by all means express yourself on those issues.

It's a subtle distinction perhaps, but to give a simple example, I think saying "If the club accepts White + 23 for Tippett the people responsible should be sacked" is completely reasonable, whereas saying "I can't believe we're going to accept White + 23, the people responsible should be sacked" is not. They express a similar sentiment, but in the latter case an assumption is being made that is not yet backed up by anything more than wild rumour.

We're a bunch of like minded (maybe not ;P) individuals venting our spleens and sharing frustrations on an incredibly topical issue at the moment. And we're posting online. And you're going to get caught up on semantics? That's you're perogative I guess but personally I'm shitting myself we are all going to be pissed off very very shortly.

Again I think you are WAY off base with saying its backed up by nothing more than a wild rumour. There has been plenty to justify people being concerned it was going to happen. One could argue it is still likely to happen!

You'll be able to hear me cackling all over South Australia as I lock this thread and banish it to the depths of internet history. My dislike for it has grown to the point where I cringe every time I refresh the board index and see it light up in bold.

And add in probably well over a thousand deleted posts.....

i'd better be getting paid for reading this crap
Bf has to be profitable... Should be able to pay your Internet bill at the least!

To be fair to Sydney, it's not as if they have a pick #10 sitting there but they are only offering #23 -
No.. but they do have several young kids who are of similar value to pick #10. They could trade them.. but refuse to do so.

You can vent your spleen all you like mate :p Just, if you're going to throw the baby out with the bathwater it's probably not worth getting upset when someone fires a similarly broadbrushed shot back at you :D

The one thing I've found throughout this period is that every time something is reported as fact, we later find out it was only hearsay. At this point we still haven't seen confirmation that 23 + White has even been offered by Sydney, let alone the Crows looking to pull the trigger on it.

The old saying of "where there's smoke, there's fire" no longer always applies.

It's more than a Poort home game!
About even if you include tarps, staff, players and individual cafeteria items sold
