You would hope that AFC knew this was going to be the minimum punishment, so they got in 1st. Basically it is an admission of guilt, which I have no problem with if it was undefendable ... but isn't that why we brough in top lawyers who could have got us of/reduced penalty on technicalities?? Given the admission of guilt/loss of picks/loss of Tippett for nothing/loss of Joyce, someone must be held accountable at AFC.

My thoughts exactly.

So the 'happy with this' crowd are also happy that losing KT for nothing has seemingly been glossed over?

Missing out on the first 3 rounds of a draft, compensation for our highest paid player and a huge fine is hardly a slap on the wrist. We must of really screwed up. Trigg must go.
Depends what value we put on the two picks we have passed in..

? Of course not. My only hope is that this means that we are only 'kept out' of one, the one we chose to sit out of. If we are ineligible to go in to next years draft as well, I would have rathered to use the pick this year, and play the strategy in FA knowing we have no picks.
I agree with you if we are out for 2 it may be a bad call....unless the AFL were considering 3 years

If they were to penalise us for two years, I would rather use the pick this year, and go in to the next two FA periods knowing we don't have picks, and thus using other mediums to strengthen our list.

If we sit out this years draft, and we are only penalised one draft, I think it is better we sit out this year.

Too many are assuming this means we will only sit out one draft.
we are all ASSUMING. Some positively and some negatively. I know which side I would rather see things from.

I guess this is good news. Or not great news, but it almost certainly means we knew we'd lose our picks next year and have managed to negotiate to lose them this year instead, when our picks are terrible.

It also means that we gave up literally nothing for Angus Graham :D

I'm not happy with the way this sounds though. It sounds to me like we've done yet another dodgy deal to try to protect the reputations of our administrators, rather than in the best interests of the club. But who knows.

Can he drop to 60 odd?

If he does, I think we'll be getting investigated for conduct detrimental to the draft yet again :p

We can no longer make an assumption of our guilt though, as we clearly are. No football administration in their right mind would forgo draft picks if they believed they were innocent.

Time will tell I guess, as has been the case since the beginning of trade week.

For mine though Trigg has definitely got to go now. I've stayed quiet on that whole area waiting for the penalties to come out, but we have made more than our initial admission of an agreement, we have now gone and given ourselves a very harsh penalty, which whether he likes it or not, he has to take responsibility for.

Yep, it just makes the decision not to trade him last year even more ****ing stupid as last year they would have known we had a ticking time bomb. For that lost gamble someone has to go because when you gamble and lose you pay a price. And those paying the price has to be the individuals responsible. Absolutely disgraceful.

We had already admitted guilt. There was no question as to whether we were guilty. The only question was how severe the crime was.

I don't think the penalty we've given ourselves is "that harsh", but I do still agree that somebody needs to take the fall for this whole situation.

But the whole coming out saying our hands were tied but we were looking forward to putting our argument across to the Commission.

Sure we had been charged, and admitted some guilt. But the admission of this penalty would lead one to assume we are more guilty than we have let on, by punishing ourselves prior to even defending ourselves.

If this is our only penalty then all good. We add Crouch, top 3, and upgrade Laird, possible late first rounder. Quality additions.

We still get a look at rookie draft.

I'm assuming for present purposes that only a fine to come. It's a negotiation process and we need to offer something. This way we have the appearance of offering plenty when in reality we have not been hurt too badly.

A smart , strategic, move

I disagree. The AFC would have a good idea of what the penalty will be if they are in ongoing discussions. They have probably been told that the penaties will be at least one draft. On that basis if we voluntarily take our medicine now it is likely we will be 'rewarded' with only one draft. We should them be back in the game next year.
Think of the as the administrative "MRP" we've 120point penalty reduced with an early guilty plee.

I would have rather he be sent to the PSD than for .... all to the premiers
So yes, I don't care and we would have been ...... over in the trade anyway, pick 23 plus pay for a spud NO THANKS!

Exactly. How many other clubs would do this? none?
I bet every single other club would be fighting the allegations tooth and nail to defend themselves.
Where does all this pandering to the VFL get us? absolutely nowhere.

honestly, no one knows anything. We really must simply wait until the 30th.

We know that we have been banned from effectively one years draft and lost our highest paid player for nothing. Really even if we get nothing else now it's already been bad.

Given that we have Crouch in the bank, if the surrendering of this years picks is designed to contain our punishment to a fine and loss of 2012 picks only I would say where do we sign

If this is the case let's take the black eye, accept Triggy's resignation, restructure the administration and let's move on quickly to season 2013

Now that the whole thing is turned on its head...again! Someone has to take the fall for this....good faith my a***! Thought they were showing some balls the AFC now it seems all they were doing was making sure it would be legal to be totally ****ed over.

I don't think this deal has anything to do with protecting the administrators.

This is a disgrace.

If the AFL have organised this deal prior to the hearing, then what is happening on Nov 30?

And if the AFL hasn't and we've tried to be proactive to lessen the penalties against us then we are a laughing stock. (moreso).

Laughing even harder now. Thought we had finally grown a spine....sigh.
