Whats peoples views on killing Sharks. I say rather them than me.

In CP's case I'd rather the shark than him

lets feed all the scumbags who rape and murder ,as well as peodphiles to the sharks

it would make for great TV seeing a shark rip someone who bashes up old ladies limb to limb

i have had a good think about this poll and think the comment re CP is too harsh
you would take MB or DL but it is only a matter of time until they gas each other

In a way yes. They are one of my biggest personal fears when I go to the beach (but that's probably because I have a fear of some animals). Just the thought of something like that trying to eat me while I'm swimming..... makes me shudder.
On the other hand, they are an animal just like lots of other things & they deserve their right to live.

No.

You're in the shark's natural habitat, and most killings are actually accidental (the shark can easily mistake someone in a swimsuit for a seal for example)... besides which, a lot of species of shark are actually endangered. Killing them isn't going to prevent deaths unless you wipe most of them out, or introduce a form of netting that prevents them from going close to beaches.

You take risks every time you swim in the ocean or the sea. Or even as something as everyday as crossing the road. Sharks are beautiful, misunderstood animals and shouldn't be killed just because a handful of people fear or hate them. The only justification you'd have of killing one is if your life was in danger and you were attacked - in that case you'd rather your life be sustained.

What I don't agree with is going on a killing spree.

As somebody that surfs (Bodyboards) on a daily basis, our greatest enemy if you will is the shark. However I would never agree to the killing of them. When we go into the surf, we take a risk. Just like if you went into the amazon and got attacked by an animal. It's there habitat, you don't have to go there. If you do it's at your own risk.

What is your opinion on exterminating animals such as sharks or crocodiles which have killed a human?

I don't agree with it.

For starters, revenge killing isn't going to solve the core of the problem. Secondly, where is one to start? There are probably a dozen or more sharks/crocs in that area alone - how do you know which one is the real killer? Though if you were faced in a situation where it was either you or the animal, then you have no choice but to kill it.

You're effectively killing them for being what they are - animals that are either protecting their young, their territory or taking prey. In their environment we are prey... more people should respect that notion and take the necessary precautions. A lot of these deaths are either accidental, just plain unlucky or are due to negligence. Sharks and crocodiles don't have bad intentions, nor are intentionally maliced - they are only doing what comes naturally to them, mostly instinctual.

Do they deserve to be killed because of that? That's arguable, but I'm going to have to say "no" on this one.

Sharks have no right to be that close to the beach where humans swim. If they are there then they should be killed ASAP.

Shark is just doing what's natural. To survive they must stalk and kill prey and when a shark sees something moving in the water, of course it's gonna pounce.

No one is to blame, the people who get attacked are just going about their business having a nice swim or surf, yet the shark is doing exactly the same in it's own habitat.

Sharks aren't as intelligent as humans, therefore they can't avoid following their instinct. As humans we can take the neccessary precautions to prevent us trespassing in their habitat, and if we do, we know the risks. Killing them isn't going to solve anything, we'd just unnecessarily be interfering further.

Anyone been watching the Discovery Channel lately?

A lot of shark programming on.

I watched one show which showed a shark repellent they developed, it contained the scent of dead shark which apparently sharks hate. It worked beautifully.

No "right" - ROFL.

You're in their natural environment. A shark is not going to know what's right and what is not by human standards.

Going by the OP theory, All cars, buses, trucks ect should be banned too.

On average their are 50-70 Shark attacks worldwide each year (not all of which result in death)
And in Feb 2007 alone in Australia there were 121 road deaths.

So 70 worldwide in a year compared to 121 in a month in a small country.

I'm thinking Sharks arent the problem here.

Bad luck we are superior to them in every form other than swimming and killing. The world needs humans much more than sharks.

Sadly, this narcissistic attitude is one of the worst things about human nature. It's got nothing to do with this "us vs them", that is such a narrow minded and illogical mentality. Learn to co-exist with the environment around you, and respect that you are in the territory of the animal, not the other way around.
